      So true. I watched her program with Iraj few days ago & I was fuming..... Iraj is so disrespectful, very offensive his questions are.

    • @udithawij1968
      @udithawij1968 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the host doesn’t have the Education and respect how to use the words towards the person who you are interviewing you not supposed to work as a host because you letting down your self in front of Millions of educated people. Iraj please please don’t do it interview like this you have no ability to take the control of your guest because she’s so educated and so talented. You should learn from like Dhanu he’s is a what a wonderful person and and he knows how to run the show with very Professionally and in a 100% respect way . Great job Dhanu

    This should be telecasted in Sinhala language in television channels in Sri Lanka. There’s a huge lack of awareness in people who don’t know English about this subject. We know we accept all as equal because we have been informed from English media. But for the majority, the best way to make them aware is by their mother tongue. It means Sinhala or Tamil here in Sri Lanka. Bhumi, Hans and Dhanu you guys have done an amazing job to LGBT people and we salute you guys from our hearts. The words you guys speak obviously have more meaning and more humanity than those who called priests or monks. You guys have truly made your mark in Sri Lanka to inspire the LGBT community to stand with pride with a purpose 🏳️‍🌈

      If this was done in sinhala, all the comments would be like "oka ponnaya" "kalakanniya" "muta ledak" etc.
      So i think it's better to cater for a decent audience. Im not saying that a language defines a person. But that's reality.

    Bhoomi sure has come a long way. You look absolutely stunning. I watched one of your early videos where you were struggling to get your paper work sorted out. Your persistence, courage and perseverance has been key for your success.
    I work for a major company in the United states in Human resources. Our company is well known for LGBTQ equality. Every time someone with unique individuality walks through my doors, I make sure they receive the same treatment as someone else would have.
    In my opinion, the Sri Lankan mind set has to be changed, which should be done through the education system. Humanity comes in many shapes and forms. There is no one right or one wrong way. When our very own ten fingers dont look the same, how can we expect the world population to fit in to one frame. Humanity is diverse. Humanity has no clasifications.
    Keep being who you are Bhoomi. I wish you the very best and hope to see you on the world stage very soon. I am pretty sure the change of acceptance you are seeking will be coming sooner than later. ❤

    Everyone in Sri Lanka should watch this interview.. much respect for Hans, bhoomi and dhanu.. we are always used to stereotyping people.. totally agree the roots should be in the education system where people should be respected for whom they are .. as a human being! We all rely on society to accept and protect us, but police, temples, families are the core foundations which most people are been let down if they are different from society.. agree with Hans, there is a massive patriarchy culture, we are still backward.. development isn’t about infrastructure!

    I’m so sorry to hear that incident Dhanu. That’s a terrible experience and wouldn’t expect such behavior from 15 year olds or anyone for that matter. I strongly agree that education, educational institutions and educators have a big role to play in these matters. Being a teacher myself I notice how some youngsters are unaware of these matters and hence so insensitive to one another. As the conversation pointed out correctly, it’s just not towards trans-community, ‘acceptance’ should address across all facets such as women, ethnic minorities and simply embracing diversity. Hoping for the best! ❤️

  • @spungebob2498
    @spungebob2498 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Great discussion. Feel this youtube thing will fall in deaf ears. Majority of the people who need to hear this won't. However, isn't this all about trying to get respect for who you are and to have personal space? Something a majority of people in SL don't really understand. For example, you have to go to this certain school, get this certain job, be from a particular caste, have kids and have this defined eutopia for yourself to get respect and be tall handsome ( if you are a guy) and fair and beautiful( if you are a girl). Else you are made to feel really small. There is hardly a single person who falls into that category and hence people are frustrated and trying whichever way they can to gain respect. I believe this issue has to be addressed first for a person to have some self love and self respect or else any other discussion could very well be futile.

    Those last ten minutes were like a flashback to me. I suffered and still suffering alot because of man boobs. School days were horrible. At an all boys school being a boy with man boobs was like a rabbit in a lions' cage. Sometimes my white shirts were covered with brown hand prints of their dirty hands. I was ashamed to go outside of school wearing the same shirts. So I washed and dried them afterschool before going back to home. My parents never knew. I was so ashamed to tell anyone. Even now I wear a slimming undergarment to cover them. Nobody knows the pain we go through.

      asha. ranatunga: You must be kidding me, right??? What do you mean by “your command of Sinhala has improved phenomenally?” Wasn’t Danu born in, grew up and still live in Sri Lanka? Didn’t he study at St. Peter’s College, Colombo 04??? Sri Lanka is a majority Sinhala speaking nation just like Australia, Canada, UK, USA, and NZ are majority English speaking nations. One wouldn’t tell someone born and raised in those countries that their English has improved phenomenally. That’s beyond ridiculous!!! If they pretend to NOT know Sinhala then that’s a fake act which Danu is pretty good at! Stop being so weird, Asha! I think you’re one of those wanna be sudda’s who live overseas 😂 I’m sure your Sinhala is not as good as your English even though you were born and raised in Sri Lanka 🤣

    • @asha.ranatunga2581
      @asha.ranatunga2581 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@kevinferguson7477 Firstly, thank you for taking the time to disect my ancestry. In a nutshell, I am not trying to be "wannabe " sudda of any sort. I was born and raised in Kandy and I speak very fluent sinhalese, eventhough I lived more than half of my life in the United states. I value my Sri Lankan ancestry and I have made it a high priority to teach my kids
      sinhalese & buddhism. All my kids are well versed in sinhalese.
      Secondly, the reason I complimented Dhanu for his improvement in English is because Dhanu's mother tounge is not sinhalese nor English. He was in Jaffna most of his childhood and moved to Colombo during the latter part of his life . Plus his parents never spoke any sinhalese. Hence, sinhalese is something he had to work on.Yes, he did attend St.peters college. I have seen Dhanu's successful growth and I am genuinely happy for him.
      Thirdly, please don't accuse others of things you aren't 100 % sure of. I am a total stranger to you, and how can you predict if I speak sinhalese or not? I wouldn't know what languages you speak and I cant cast judgement on you.
      Last but not least, you on the other hand, having a caucasian profile picture using caucasian name, seems to be the
      " wannabe " big time. You are all over TH-cam always posting negative comments. It's very seldom you post anything positive. However, you did post a positive comment towards one of my comments and I was beyond amazed.
      The world is full of hatred and I dont want to add fuel to the fire. I am always a glass half full person, rather than a glass half empty person. Thank you for taking the time to comment. Have a blessed day! Stay happy! Best wishes to you!

      @@kevinferguson7477 Just FYI, the province of Quebec in Canada, only speaks French, even though Canada is a majority English speaking nation. Every name board in Quebec is in French and you are pretty much lost, if you dont know at least a little bit of French. If ever in Canada, dont be alarmed to meet a Canadian speaking Francophone French, instead of fluent English. 😉
      Just as in Jaffna, not everyone knows Sinhalese and English. 🙏

    Hans seems a very smart, bold & a passionate person.
    Bhumi, what a spirit. Majority in this Island have always used Gender, & sexual binary sunglasses to see the society (well it's not only common in Asia) It's wonderful to see the colours in the rainbow more closely. If people are more educated about "sexual orientations" & also social construction & norms, they'd probably think out of the boxes of humanity.

    Definitely one of the best interviews @Danu! These are real issues in society which can only be addressed through constructive dialogue and substantial changes in the education system. Sri Lanka being a patriarchal country is yet to accept women as equal let alone the LGBTQ community. Dialogues such as these are important to propogate mutual respect and to understand how to coexist in harmony.
