    Back in the day the firm i worked for had an Atkinson, and an ERF, my choice was the ERF loved the sound of the 180 Gardner. Luckily the other driver liked the Atty. We used to call the ERF, the Flying Scotsman, because she smoked so much till she was warm.

    Those old cabs were always a struggle for me at 6'2". You were pressed up against the wheel with your knee being banged about. Double de clutch so your leg was busy and cramped with a high clutch pedal. Good old days?

    Yes when i saw the side window behind the windscreen , then i knew then your Atki is one of hundreds built in Australia with this unique cab. In the 1960,s 70,s Atkinson,s exported chassis to Australia in CKD form ,then cabs suitable for the Harsh environment in the outback, fitted to customers spec. Did you import the wagon or buy her from a dealer as she sounds a rarity.

    • @Mr_b_yorkshire_farmer
      @Mr_b_yorkshire_farmer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Basil Taylor yes I imported this myself. There was one other that came to British soils back in 1968 but it was involved in a crash and was written off.

      Basil Taylor. My sentiments exactly I couldn't believe it I was expecting the steel full round shape a bit like an F86 Volvo you know what I mean. I was in the process of restoring a single drive half sleeper cab fibreglass 1968 Atkinson with English chassis, Kirkstall 5.25 Diff and front axle. I converted it to power steering, tilt cab, it originally had a 6LXB 180 Gardner although the straight 8 240 hp was popular in Australia but it got the Detroit treatment in the form of a 6-71 RTO 910 or 15 was the standard gearbox they had. Then my mother got rid of everthing 2 spares and a bogie drive Autocar with an 8V71. Never mind ther's still a few left in Victoria Australia on gumtree. Cheers from Australia

    Cool old truck. But what's with the exhaust pouring out by the right front wheel? That would be considered very weird in the States.

    • @Mr_b_yorkshire_farmer
      @Mr_b_yorkshire_farmer  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      chuck fischer almost all British wagons from the 1960 and 70’s had the exhaust mounted cross the front of the wagons. Some of it was down to safety for sparks.

      @@Mr_b_yorkshire_farmer Okay. I have a 1967 Kenworth, W900. About 6 feet of hood out front. Cummins NTC335. Tandem rear axles & dump box. I like the simple, sanitary look of the old trucks. The interior of the cab sure looks nice on yours. Mine is still doing it's job.

    Is your Atki a 6x6 Gritter Wagon?, reason the windscreen wiper pivots are below the screen, a feature common on modified Borderer Searcher cabs fitted to the Snow plough Gritter Wagons. I think yours has a different gearbox, the original box was a straight six speed ZF, seeing a splitter or range change flick switch on the gear lever, that makes me think the replacement box is a nine speed Fuller RT 6609 -11609 RoadRanger with direct top gear. Your Cummins is a 250 short stroke Iron Lung,very revvy ,like a car engine so needs to kept spinning,,It is the same engine as fitted to a1965 6x4 Freightliner Cabover tractor Unit, so a lot of stirring the gearbox cogs . Freighltiner had a five over four double gearbox, a five speed Spicer main box ,and a four speed Brownie auxiliary box , so you can play a lot of tunes twenty gears to be exact . If i am right your Atki,s drive train comprises a 250 Cummins short stroke, mated to a Nine speed Fuller RoadRanger box ,or Twelve speed ZF with splitter option, a two speed ZF dog clutch part-time transfer box driving a Kirkstall hub reduction front axle identical to that fitted to early 4x4 Thornycroft Nubian Fire engines, Tandem rear axles are single reduction Eatons identical except for different gear ratios, to that fitted to 6x4 Atki Ventura Tractor Units aimed at the lighter end of heavy haulage, i.e. digger or machinery transport. Would like to see the front or side view of your wagon.

      @Mr_b_yorkshire_farmer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Basil Taylor This is the Australian built cab made by reinforced plastics of Melbourne Australia for Atkinson AU. The borderer cab would not withstand the hash conditions over in Australia so they built there own cab. The wagon still has its original drive train of a Cummins 12L ten speed road ranger constant mesh and Kirkstal D85 hub reduction.

    Британские грузовики, это круто ! Как так получилось, что на данный момент ни Foden, ни Scammell, ни ERF, ни Atkinson больше нет в живых ?
    Впрочем, я знаю ответ на этот вопрос. И просто зло берёт на евролеваков, которые развратили британский пролетариат и довели британскую промышленность до ручки. Как и страну, впрочем. Пришлось такую зверюгу как Тэтчер у руля ставить, чтобы разгрести то адское говно, которое наворотили лейбористы к концу 70х.
