I chuckled, then laughed, then realized I was laughing so much I had to go back at: "What have you heard?" "Only what I read in the papers." "Oh, good."
Simply one of the best series ever made and still very relevant today. Sadly, none of the three main characters are around today, including Richard Vernon from this clip. He was brilliant as Slartibartfast in Hitchhiker's. Got an award for Norway, you know........
The truth is that given it's so close to real life: it's hard for a chap to make any sort of comment at all?, perhaps it's time this chap asked the other chaps for their opinions?, particularly the chaps who've recently been invited to lunch with the Governor of the Bank of England?.
Mostly based on off-the-record interviews with officials. Some stories had been so strange that show writers had to water them down to make them believable!!
Which platform showcases this old TV series? I’ve checked Apple TV, Amazon and Netflix but cannot find this series listed under any of these platforms.
As close to comedy perfection as you'll find. Absolutely hilarious. Richard Vernon deserved a BAFTA for this alone.
Bafta? Yeah, but he was not the right chap. :-)

Same circus, different clowns
Slartibartfast! Wow, that's a name I haven't heard since i was about 9 or 10
IIRC, they gave him the contract for Africa on Earth 2 and he wanted to do it with fjords and everything- but they weren't equatorial enough.
All those crinkly bits?
Richard Vernon was a wonderful actor 👍🇬🇧
“He embezzled it unluckily!”
Great writing. Great comedic timing.
Ernest Bevin on going into Europe: "If you open that Pandora's Box, you don't know what Trojan horses will jump out."
Good thing Bernard wasn't in the room with Sir Desmond. He would have imploded.
Brilliantly written & acted.
Pure, pure genius!!! Top class in comedy dialogue!

Who on earth came up with these lines???? FABULOUS!!!!
One of the chaps, apparently.
@@ilokivi Yes, but was he one of the chaps the chaps trust, or one of the chaps the chaps just write with?
Two of the best writers ever to walk this earth.
Anthony Jay and Jonathan Lynn. Since no-one else is going to tell you... 😊

Good Lord! So much comedy gold, and Sir Humphrey hardly said a word!
Wonderful Richard Vernon!
he stood up to the beatles in a hard days night.
Oh the mixed metaphors! 😂
PS, how did Richard Vernon maintain a straight face???
Probably because they rehearsed it.
Vernon is superb in this. Terrific script, beautifully delivered…..
so far away from him as 'C' in The Sandbaggers
He definitely wasn't stupid, only pretended to be
"Well, I certainly think you should appoint one." Lol. Utter genius.
i say, this show had a marvelous cast.
Very FUNNY!!😂
So brilliant yet so sad that this is basically how the city works 😂
The Banker talking a load of, "Twaddle", not Received Pronunciation, which he should be speaking, take note.!

The audio is slightly out of sync
The last 30 seconds accurately describes the experience of that fucking awful cage the elephant song
Unrealist dreadful grammar from Humphrey...
