    When combined with DynaMesh and its Group option, the Slice brush lets you literally split your mesh in two pieces along the curve. Upon remesh, ZBrush will create two objects with separate PolyGroups. However, even though new pieces are created they are still part of the same Tool or SubTool. If you need to split them into separate SubTools, simply use the Group Split function found in the Tool > SubTool menu.

    • @AleksMarkeljFoto
      @AleksMarkeljFoto  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +StrobFXTEST Well that is not exactly what I was trying to show in this video. True, you can split the object into separate subtools according to the polygroups, but it doesnt create only 2 subtools, it creates 4. So to keep object as 1 subtool with only 2 separate parts (polygroups) the technique that is shown is the only way (that I know).
      Tnx for the comment.

      I don't know if pixologic gone crazy or not they didn't say anything about this update and didn't change their tutorial also, it seems they didn't upd it rather forgot to add that feature , it seems it's a bug in R6 Zbrush, whad you say

      K M Hasan Pixologic always changes something in a new version. The majority of changes are great but some cause more problems. Its just one of those things we have to live with. Helping each other can get us through that. :)

      There are quite a few more items that you'll find in the ZClassroom tutorials that don't work like they did in 4R2. Not sure why they did this but an update and proper docs would be nice.

    Dynamesh -> slice -> redynamesh -> group by normals (90)
    Thanks for the tut, I'm surprised by how cumbersome this is in ZBrush. Maybe boolean is cleaner?

      You`re welcome. I had the same issue when I was searching for the fix of this "problem". ZClassroom has a tutorial for older version, so its not helping us who have the newest one.
      I do help solve the problems that my viewers encounter while watching my tutorial. It`s helpful to post a time stamp (like 1:35 ) to point where the problem is occurring, so I can understand what the issue is.

      ***** Hi I'm facing some issues even after following your technique. As you watched on Zclassroom I tried to follow them, but used your way, grouping by normals. It worked for the first cut but as I tried to cut again, I found some faces are still attached. What should I do if I wanna cut 3 for or many slices on my dynamesh but don't want their faces to be attached? I'm sending the screen capture to your email now. Please reply

    Its not working for me in Zbrush4R7. After doing group by normals at 90,its removing the polygroups. :( Plz help

    • @AleksMarkeljFoto
      @AleksMarkeljFoto  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you would LOOK at the video STEP by STEP you would know you need to re-dynamesh (ctrl+clickdrag on canvas) THEN Group by normals (set to 90).
      Its all there people. PLEASE make the effort and look at the video until you make the same result as its shown.

    • @lordpanik3725

      Probably does not have the group tab clicked in dynamesh options.

    • @RobynHuff
      @RobynHuff 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do not mean to be a pain, as your tutorial is very helpful, but I got hung up on this step as well. I am new to zBrush, but ctrl+clickdrag does not seem to re-dynamesh the tool in 4R7 P3 (x64). All it does is clear the mask. I tried it several times the way you showed and it didn't work, but when I read that I need to re-dynamesh, I tried clicking the Dynamesh button on and off and that did work, so I could continue.

    • @AleksMarkeljFoto
      @AleksMarkeljFoto  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you have something on your model masked you need to first CTRL-clickdrag to get rid of the mask and then CTRL-clickdrag AGAIN to re-dynamesh. One CTRL+clickdrag wont do everything.

    ok - I am missing something. All I get is another whole polygon sphere; a duplicate pulls out, not a separate top - both show polygroups, but no separation?

    • @AleksMarkeljFoto
      @AleksMarkeljFoto  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Linda Snyder you are duplicating Sphere with Move tool since you are probably holding CTRL+ALT while trying to move a sphere.
      First you need to MASK the part you dont want to move. That is done by holding CTRL and clicking on part you want unmasked. Then just click and drag on middle circle of move tool to move the unmasked part.
      Its simple, just go step-by-step as shown in video + listen to shortcuts I mention, and you`ll be fine.

    I'm getting an error saying that the max normal angle is too small and it's not working because "it will create more than 1000 polygroups" It's telling me to increase the angle but I already have it maxed out at 90. Any ideas?

    • @AleksMarkeljFoto
      @AleksMarkeljFoto  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      stefan naumovski
      Hi, thats because the subtool was converted with Dynamesh, that creates triangles.
      Reconstructing Subdiv wont work in any case but there is a solution to get the low-res on the subtool. ZRemesher. :)
      First go out of Dynamesh, select the part you want to have in low-res. Under Geometry / ZRemesher set the Target polygons Count to something like 0.5, leave Adapt ON and ZRemesh. Done. :)

    • @AleksMarkeljFoto
      @AleksMarkeljFoto  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Federico Montoya Tnx.
      You could under SubTool/Split/GroupsSplit and then delete the obsolete Subtool
      OR
      you could Ctrl+Shift+Click on the polygroup you want to keep (so the others get hidden) and then under Geometry/ModifyTopology/DelHidden. And you get the same result.

      ***** thanks, i tried that, and its still connected. doesn't help what I do, it won't separate. :(

    • @AleksMarkeljFoto
      @AleksMarkeljFoto  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Camille Kleinman It should work. If you follow step by step exactly what I do. Especially make sure you redynamesh after every cut AND apply "Group By Normals" set to 90. Then NOTHING should stick to anything.
      And do make sure you have "Groups" turned on in Dynamesh options.
      Like I said, if you do EXACTLY how it is shown, it will work. So take as much time as needed, watch it through, do step by step with the video and you`ll figure out where you did a "mistake".

    • @AleksMarkeljFoto
      @AleksMarkeljFoto  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Abel Oroz What do you mean? You can "slice" the curve by tapping 1x on ALT to get bezier curve or 2x to get sharp edge. Look at 3:08 to see the hard transition created.
      If that is what you ment with your Q.

    • @AleksMarkeljFoto
      @AleksMarkeljFoto  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You probably didnt re-dynamesh it. Its not enough just to Slice the object, you need to re-dynamesh it afterwards and then use Group by Normals, with 90 setting.

    • @AleksMarkeljFoto
      @AleksMarkeljFoto  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      shankar subedi you could try using mirror options after you do the cuts. You can find one under Geometry/Modify Topology - Mirror and Weld....the other one is under Deformation - Mirror ...the second one just mirror the subtool according to selected axis...the first one mirror the subtool from "left to right" (so make sure you have the wanted cut on "left" side). It will take half the subtool and weld the "left" part to the "right" one. Just make some tests and you will figure it out.
