I'm a little late but here's an Earl Scale suggestion: make different categories weigh more.
For example:
Entertainment and creativity each have a weight of 25% (each point worth 2.5%), virality has a weight of 10% (each point worth 1%), and originality and impact each have a weight 20% (each point worth 2%).
So that way, if we were to rate the first trend in this video on the "New Earl Scale", the total score is 9.5% (compared to the previous score of 16%).
Different weights obviously give different results and ultimately depends on what you determine should weigh more.
This is something commonly used in decision matrices, I learned it from my engineering classes. It's pretty effective in regards to making sure something isn't affecting the total score more than it should.
