Very true! Old tech was simple, functional with horrendously good reliability. The latter means they're not compatible with modern business practice. Lol

that used to be one heck of a dangerous way of starting an engine back then
Why?
because if you would not yank it out on time and if it takes your hand for a ride, then bye bye hand, well it was only applicable to the semidiesels (two strokes) and if a stupid person were starting it that is. unlike the other engines which had notches which would make the hand crank handle engage when speed is low and come off when upto speed.
That´s why they started the tractor once a day and watched out to never let the engine die during the wholke workday and those guys knew what they were doing back in those days . Later LANZ at around mid 1930ies built a dynastart System as an extra for the big 45 and 55 HP but you allways had to preheat the engine with the blowtorch

It's a hot bulb engine, runs on heavy oil....the torch is used to pre heat the cylinder head in order to burn the crude fuel.
Two stroke hot bulb diesel engine. Primitive but effective and very similar to the Fowler tractors of the same date.

Der Mann spritzt mit dem Schlüssel an der Einspritzung zusätzlichen Diesel ein damit er besser anläuft .

That looks like a different exhaust to the original--the top looks the same, but there does not seem to be any expansion chamber--but maybe I am thinking of a different model.

Jo der ging ordentlich.Hatte vorher schon ein Video gemacht aber das ist zu lang geworden da war ein kleiner plastik Eimer als regenschutz auf dem auspuff und der ist als die erste zündung kam 30 meter in die luft geflogen aber keine sorge war ein reiner Kaltstart die mussten Nähmlich sprit in die lampe füllen und die musste erstmal Abkuhlen und seit dem sind 2 Stunden vergangen also war er wieder Kalt.Coole sache freue mich schon auf das Video.

цей трактор мав всього один циліндр та великий маховик який був потрібний, щоб виводить поршень з мертвої точки. Заводився кермом. Дуже надійний та невибагливий. Бачив його в роботі не один рік.

Ja, es ist schon ein gemeingefährliches Teil, im Vergleich zu heutigem Gerät. Wenn einem da beim fahren der Fuß abrutscht und ins Schwungrad kommt, ist der Fuß ab. Heutzutage muß alles idiotensicher sein.

Dear Tractor companies why don’t most of you find an old lorry Frame or even rebuild a brand New Lorry Frame for building more robust and better Tractors and put those Scania N113, Volvo B10M, Volvo D10A, Volvo TD102KF, Gardner 6LXC and Gardner 8LXB Diesel engines and put on all of those Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic 4 and 5 Speed Gearboxes for those stronger better Tractors so they can still use them for any farms and even use them for the Mechanics so they can even lift a broken down Bigger Buses and also lift all of the broken down Lorries, why don’t you build 6 and 7 seats so that other passengers can sit at the back and front including the driver. You can still build those four small more substantial medium sizes wheels and still make them even more useful for the Mechanic farm tractor than it still was before, please can you do those interesting ideas for us tractor Lovers.
