Good reaction video - you selected a terrific Black Sabbath song. Most Sabbath fans say Ozzy's vocals peaked on Sabotage. I bought Sabotage in September 1975 . I already owned the first and second Black Sabbath albums - bought them when they first came out. In about 1971, I took a musical detour to Jeff Back, The Faces and Mountain. Then in 1975 I saw Sabotage in a record store and the cover art was so striking. I bought it mostly out of curiosity. Sabotage became my favorite album of all time. I'm 70 years old and still listening to Sabotage. Keep up the good work!
I think you'd like "The Writ" off this album. It's their angry open letter to their record label & management (hence the title of the album "Sabotage"). "Symptom of the Universe" is the best known off this album, but "Megalomania" is my favourite. 9+ minutes of class.
This album was a peak. Not just for Sabbath, but for an entire ethos. Things *had* to change after this. This isn't their most popular album, but it's their best and you should listen to it all. You'll observe seeds of things that followed. But no other album was like this one, before or after.
Geezer Butler (bass) wrote 99% of the lyrics. The songs usually started with a Tony Iommi (eye-owe-me) riff, and the band would build a song around it. Ozzy would create the vocal lines and melodies by singing random lyrics and sounds over the instrumental. Geezer would then write lyrics that fit the vocal lines. I've read in a couple of interviews that that was their basic method. Peace.
Thanks for shedding some light on their creative process. Very interesting. And thanks for the guide on the pronounciaton! Totally read that letter as an L 😅
I paused 2 secs. in. I'm 58 and have been a big fan since I was 13. This is very cool tune. It's got the Iommi riff and Ozzy's vocals sound good, what makes this Sabbath tune unique (to me anyway) is that keyboard/synth/ bit behind the scenes that is a sound that was probably new to them and they nailed it!
Ozzy has called Iommi "King of the Riffs," and the riff in that first half is so awesome, as you stated. And then the second half is something they're also known for, switching things up to a completely different sound in the same song. And Ozzy's vocals are amazing! 🤘🤘 Regarding the weird mirror on the album cover, on the back of the album, you see them from behind, with the same thing happening in the mirror, showing a copy instead of their actual reflection. Not everyone loves the cover, but I've always thought it was very cool and creative.
Time to go back to the beginning. Black Sabbath, by Black Sabbath, on the album Black Sabbath . Then just keep going because it's all great all the way to where you are right now.
@@dconley1964 Good point, & every time someone says this I ask if they know any other songs like that- the song title, album title, & band name all exactly the same. Only other one I've heard of is Bad Company's first album, titled Bad Company, w/ the song Bad Company. I'm sure there must be some obscure albums out there that fit the bill, but anyway if you know any more I'd love it if you share. Thanks man...
Geezer wrote almost all the lyrics for the classic original period. He was raised Catholic, intrigued by a lot of mysticism in it, and thinks he had untreated depression all through his younger years. So he had a lot of thoughts and ruminations on life. Don't know what you've done already, but War Pigs and Hand of Doom are also great songs with classic Geezer lyrics. PS I love this whole Sabotage album. The first 3 songs are meant to be enjoyed together the way they're on the album to get the total experience: Hole in the Sky - Don't Start - Symptom of the Universe.
I sing in a Ozzy tribute band called Madhouse I love this album no bad songs Symptom of the universe , hole in the sky, Megalomania. Geezer writes many of the lyrics
Sabotage and Paranoid are the two best Black Sabbath albums, although all Black Sabbath albums with Ozzy are the best. If you managed to hear and pass through your soul Sabotage in your life, then you have lived your life not in vain. I have never heard anyone sing like Ozzy on Sabotage, this is unearthly music, I can’t imagine how it can be composed and also recorded, it’s just incredible.... Those who haven’t heard Sabotage yet, urgently run to the store while you still have time on this planet
Hi ...listen to the writ . And the bassist terry "geezer" Butler wrote around 90percent of all the lyrics on all the albums ..Ozzy around the rest ten .
Geezer writes almost all the lyrics on the first 8 albums (this is number 6). Ozzy wrote the last track on this album (The Writ) and it is stellar. Tony builds the riffs and Bill fetches the sauce. Geezer's bass is, well, unstoppable.
Of course you're right I was listening/watching a Judas Priest, "Stained Class" video at the same time more or less & hit a wrong key & somehow got all screwed up, dont know how exactly. Can't even claim I was stoned. My bad, sorry... @@chriscoote2690
Iommi starts with a capitol i so it's pronounced EYE-OH-MEE, Tony Iommi Yes, Ozzy is Lord of the "Oh Yeah's" lol. Sabbath were the MASTERS of transitions!!! Metallica, Nightwish and many many other bands were influenced by Sabbath in so many ways.
This album is a highlight for me. They got a little proggy and sophisticated on this and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath from the previous year. They lost some fans but i think its the best of period of their career.

Down the Rabbit hole. Greatest band since Beatles
Bassist Geezer Butler was the main lyric man in the band, though Ozzy wrote the lyrics to "The Writ".
Thanks for letting me know!
I say this everywhere, Geezer was one utterly amazing lyricist. They are often very thought-provoking and evocative.

Symptom of the Universe !!! The best hit from this album !

Ozzy's voice kept getting higher and higher after the first album. Think about how low his voice was on the song black sabbath.

I totally read that wrong. I hope i got it correct in one of my recent video's 😄
As usual, lead guitarist Tony iommi (eye-OWE-me, NOT "Lommi")) wrote the music and the bassist, Geezer Butler, wrote the lyrics.
Great song! Hope i got the pronounciation right, in the last video.
Geezer write amost all the lyrics untill Dio shows up
