All Black Sabbath's albums were great. Heaven And Hell, The Mob Rules, Dehumanizer, You must listen to them, and later you'll change your minds. Beside, don't forget to their albums when they change the band's name to "Heaven And Hell" and they produce Two albums "The Dio Years" with three new songs, and the full album "The Devil You Know".
Alas Black Sabbath is really Iommi, Ozzy, Butler & Ward . Without the presence of the 3 others Iommi made a very generic metal . Even with Dio he made a completely different type of music (though I love it , it's closer to Rainbow than Sabbath) . The lyrics od Geezer Butler are unique . And Ward drumming fit perfectly to Tommy Iommi . Ward is a monster . He has breath, control and creativity . way more than Cozy Powell or Vinnie Appice.
Dio was simply one of the greatest vocalists/singers period, whether that's in metal or not. You really should go listen to more of his work in Sabbath, his work with Rainbow and his solo material. Such a huge loss to the rock metal world.
Do believe this was 1980. Ronnie James Dio did two albums with Sabbath before going out on his own with DIO. He came back in to Sabbath later on, then went back on his own and ended with Heaven and Hell which was essentially Black Sabbath before he unfortunately passed away. Ronnie had been doing music since way back in the 50's as a Doo Wop band believe it or not. This was and still is played on rock stations. Some of DIO's most popular songs are Holy Diver, Rainbow in the Dark, Last in Line and We Rock. Don't Talk to Strangers is my fav. Before Black Sabbath he sang in Richie Blackmores Rainbow. Ronnie had the best metal vocals ever.
OZZY started in 1968 with the Polka Tulka blues band, then in 1969 Earth all Black Sabbath names. Ozzy was the first Heavy Metal singer. DIO was great but OZZY was the first. Pink Floyd 2nd in 1969 with Cid Barret
Ozzy was fired. There were a lot of forces behind that including his out of control addictions, dysfunctions, Sharon's father Don Arden wanting to push him out, and the band themselves not wanting to work with him anymore. You mention this song is more "mellow". I assure you if you would bother to listen to more than just one song during the Dio era of Sabbath, you would find they had very hard rocking songs with him. I'd dare to say that the Dehumanizer album they did with Dio in 1992 was one of the heaviest since Ozzy's departure.
recorded end of 79-early 80, released April of 80. Dio had spent a few years with Rainbow so he was pretty well known in the day. I was 16 when this came out and have been hooked on DIO every since. His solo career and concert tours are legendary. Check out live from the spectrum in 1984 or 1986, you'll see what I mean. 5'-2" giant. I never heard it on the radio.

I think Tony's best playing was with Ronnie. Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules, and some select songs from Dehumanizer and The Devil You Know are filled with some of Tony's best riffs and solos.
At the time with Dio, Ozzy was pushed out of the band beforehand. The drummer, Bill Ward, decided to leave halfway through their tour, so he was replaced by Vince Appice. I think Dio had the perfect voice, and Ozzy was a great showman, but his voice does work for Sabbath. Dio's songs with Sabbath were mostly darker and slower-paced. If you want to hear more of Dio, try the song Kill The King by Rainbow, a faster-paced song that I think Coach may enjoy. Also, the song many people say is the best is Stargazer, also by Rainbow.
Sterilized was his comment .Actually, our host nails it - Dio brought a more generic , hard rock style and appeal that was a classic 1980s sound .The sound of Ozzy early 70s Sabbath was anything but generic .
Yeah, this was a complete reinvention. This was the first Sabbath album I heard, so for me, I prefer this stuff. Ozzy is a character singer (that's not a bad thing), but Dio is a proper singer.
this was released april 1980 and yes it was on the radio, 15 year old me went to the concert and had the t-shirt. definitely not ozzy i didn't learn to appreciate ozzy till much later in life. it was a way for sabbath to survive the change in music people were into partying not into heavy rock
@@CoachCastTV Wikipedia: Dio is regarded as one of the greatest and most influential heavy metal vocalists of all time. Dio had a powerful, versatile vocal range and was capable of singing both hard rock and lighter ballads. He was awarded the "Metal Guru Award" by Classic Rock Magazine in 2006. He was also named the "Best Metal Singer" at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards in 2010 and ranked as the genre's best vocalist in 2013 by music journalist Sacha Jenkins.
@@petrtrebeska9029 That's awesome. It's still subjective. Art cannot be definitively objective, it is purely subjective. We're not in any way taking anything away from his talent, but it's still up to each individual's taste, just like any other art, for their personal rating and preferences.
hi Coach! Another good reaction, as usual. I have a suggestion for you, another Black Sabbath song with Dio singing. It's called The Sign of the Southern Cross. To me, it has the sound of old school Sabbath but without Ozzy's voice. A very good song, in my opinion, one I think you will enjoy.
Imagine what WE went through in 1980 when we first heard this. It was quite a shock, but I loved it on first listen in 80. This was far better than the last 2 Black Sabbath albums (Technical Ecstasy, Never Say Die were to me, stinkers) I was blown away by this album, the song writing, the performances, and RJD.(RIP) Besides it's only one song you've heard from RJDs stint in Black Sabbath. Try Sign Of The Southern Cross from the Mob Rules album. A heavier guitar you'll never hear. Fun reaction.
Yes, we can imagine that it was very jarring to the fans back in the day. We've seen that one recommended a few times already, so it's on the radar for us. Thanks for watching!
@@CoachCastTV "The sign of the southern cross" is also a slow song but really great, they of course didnt do just slow songs, one favourite of mine that is more mid to fast tempo is "Falling off the edge of the world".
The reason for the difference in sound is the change in songwriting style. Ozzy's melodies were based on singing the riffs Toni Iommi would play on guitar. Given that Iommi was/is the GOAT of riff-writing and that Ozzy's voice was so distinct that he could sing with it while still being clear and distinguishable, this was a great recipe for success. However, it does make the sound a bit harsher and more compressed. By contrast, Dio's melodies were sung on chords, which allowed more musical room for the guitar and bass to breathe, leading to a more classically beautiful sound (which is where I think y'all are getting the feelings of sanitized or mellow from). There's no wrong answer as to which version one prefers; it all comes down to personal preference. I was very much an Ozzy-era guy when I was younger, but the more I listened to the Dio-era stuff, the more it grew on me to the point where I prefer the Dio-lineup now. It's all great though; no such thing as bad Black Sabbath, IMO.
Great comment. Yes, the Ozzy version appeals to us both more for whatever reason, not that we didn't like this. This sounded more like other stuff from the '80s, whereas the older songs sounded more unique. In any case, the talent of the band is impressive.
Black Sabbath without Ozzy is still Black Sabbath mainly because of Tony Iommi. Iommi is the father of heavy metal and Black Sabbath and without him, there wouldn't be metal, Ozzy or Sabbath.
Dio went through the whole " BAN IT!" He's a devil worshipper or satanic panic along with everyone else who happened to be singing about various religions and faiths and philosiphy's and yes the medevil mandolin your hearing at the end was a aprt of the original. No in the begining it did NOT get a lot of radio play. It's not mellow it sounds like OPERA which Dio's voice is perfect for. Ozzy's voice is rough and UNTRAINED Dio has has training. That's the polished sound your getting. DIO could do OPERA, without a microphone and while he may not be able to fill modern style stadiums with his voice, old style OPERA theaters you could still hear him at the back of the house without one. Ozzy ( while I love him too ) could not do that and sound pitch perfect. BOTH were good in their own right it just hit different and arguably the subject matter is slightly different which will change the tone.
I was shooting pool in a buddies basement one afternoon and he started playing an album. I didn't know what it was and I wasn't really paying attention. After the third song I finally had to ask him who this band was. Sort of sounded like Black Sabbath but it really had me confused. I was loving it. Went down to the record store and bought it on the way home.
Keep in mind it doesn't 'sound 80s' just because it was made in the 80s. it's one the first metal albums that does 'sound 80s,' released in the first year of the decade.
Ozzy left because he was doing to many drugs.. Tony talked about it in an interview.. Tony got upset because Ozzy started going back stage during the guitar solos and wouldn't come back in time so it left the band stranded where they had to improvise until he came back... Fortunately Ozzy got his act together eventually... The other issue they had is the band was always trying to reinvent themselves and Ozzy wanted to just keep pumping out the original sound they started with... Eventually Tony agreed that Ozzy was probably right in that argument...
Dio is actually a god father of the genre having a career that predates the beatles in 1958. Rob halford and bruce dickinson have both gone on record saying that dio was their inspiration and their "rock god"
Sorry, this idolization of Dio is ridiculous . Dio’s early work was standard rock n roll, it wasn’t hard rock, much less metal . Dio was a hard rock singer for Blackmore’s Rainbow and with his own band .I never cared for his style or his voice . He wasn5 the founder of anything , much less some kind of “ god” . I always found him a ridiculous figure and his vocals very affected ….Dickinson was a good vocalist for Iron Maiden’s style, but Halford’s voice was shot by the mid 80s
It’s accurate … Dio was not remotely an important figure in the history of heavy metal ..his relatively recent death from cancer led to characterizations that were charitable @@elitezenkai9435
If you ever watched the animated movie 'Heavy Metal' then you may be familiar with the song 'The Mob Rules'.. another Black Sabbath song with Dio at the helm.
Ozzy was kicked out of Black Sabbath due to his out of control Cocane dependency and Dio was kicked out of Rainbow for not wanting to become a total sell out
When RJD came on board , the band finally had a true singer who took the song writing to another level .. RJD was just on another level from Ozzy as a singer , there's no comparison.
@@ny7294 I agree, it likely made for a quite different dynamic in the band, Dio has also shown that he could write great songs by himself, he for example wrote Holy diver and Dont talk to strangers himself (music and lyrics) before even putting the Dio band together.
Answering your question about Ozzy? He was let go by other members of Black Sabbath. Because he had serious addictions affecting the band. Ozzy went on his solo career starting out with his "brother", late great guitarist, Randy Rhoads. Dio was with another band prior joining Black Sabbath, Band was Rainbow with Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple fame. RJD started out in late 1950's singing Doo-Wop music in groups. Then mid to late 60's, Ronnie James Dio joined Elf then Electric Elf or Elves. Ritchie Blackmore, guitarist/founder of Deep Purple put DP on break (disbanded). He founded Rainbow. Dio joined Rainbow until he went to Back Sabbath. Then he went to solo career until his untimely death in 2010.
Dio is the GOAT he was back with Black Sabbath just before he died only Ozzy wouldn’t let them use the name so they went by the name of Heaven and Hell and it was a great album.
It is different from Ozzy and that's exactly what the band was going for. Black Sabbath's last two albums with Ozzy while decent enough didn't sell very well and when Ozzy was fired/left the band was almost dead in the water. There were bands like Judas Priest, AC/DC, Scorpions, ect. That were bringing in a new era of heavier music and to keep up Sabbath needed a change. Dio put Sabbath back on the map with a harder, darker sound. I refuse to get in the argument about whose better Ozzy or Dio. I look at Sabbath as two different bands equally great.
As primarily a bass guitarist steeped in classic rock and metal, I’ve played this song live in bars and clubs so many times. The song always got a positive reaction.
Also, a band of five siblings called Liliac released a cover/rearrangement of this song that I highly recommend. I don’t think you’ve seen/heard Liliac yet (and I don’t know how to check since I’m on my phone and I’m in Japan), but their singer must be heard to be believed. "Warning Warning Warning" As the robot on Lost in Space says to Will Robinson "You won't regret it " says I 😂 Although there are some real bangers on this and the next Dio fronted Sabbath albums
The big difference between this song and majority of other 80s rock songs is the subject matter. While this song is more philosophical, majority of other rock songs of the 80s were about romance and women. Black Sabbath did change some aspects of its style after Ozzy, but kept the their philosophical, political, doomy approach.
As great a vocalist as he was, I don't really associate his sound with Black Sabbath. Usually, Blackmore's Rainbow comes to mind first. He did introduce the malocchio during the Sabbath era which endured and transcended all the way to Dreamcatcher's Scream.
so hear are a few things that need to be noted: Black Sabbath were literally a DEAD issue in the U.S. at the time of this release. The last 2 albums Sabbath had done with Ozzy in the mid to late 70's had both BOMBED on the American charts, and neither of them even came close to going Gold at the time of their respective releases (they did eventually go Gold as people kept rediscovering Sabbath as time passed with the reunions of both Ozzy & Dio etc). Then this album comes out in 1980 and .....BOOM it goes PLATINUM and Black Sabbath had a new lease on life. Ronnie James Dio literally helped resurrect Black Sabbath. They were going nowhere at the end of Ozzy's tenure. Also, Ozzy was fired from Sabbath, he didn't quit, and it was because he was in such terrible shape in regards to the drugs he was addicted to at the time. In addition, and I don't blame you for your ignorance of this matter (sincerely) - Ozzy didn't write hardly any of the lyrics for B Sabbath during his original tenure in the band and this is well documented. Bassist Geezer Butler wrote almost all the lyrics for the original B Sabbath lineup's albums. Ozzy also doesn't play a musical instrument, also well documented. Point being is that Ozzy is actually very limited musically speaking. His biggest fanboys know this, most of them just avoid it because (like most people in life) they just can't admit that something they love or believe in is so flawed. I grew up with Ozzy, and I like Ozzy too, but I also realize he's just not a very talented musician. His first 2 solo albums after he was fired from Sabbath were basically ENTIRELY written by Randy Rhoads (guitarist) and Bob Daisley (bass) - which more or less replicated the pattern that had been set in Black Sabbath - Tony Iommi (guitar) and Geezer Butler (bass) wrote the music and lyrics, and Ozzy just literally showed up and sang what was given to him. Ozzy was and is a performer. He's a showman, and because of his many insane antics on stage over the years he's become a household name. But he's really not a musician. Not in any serious sense of the word anyway. Ronnie James Dio on the other hand is widely considered to be one of the best and most influential heavy rock singers in history. Dio also played bass guitar, wrote all his own lyrics and melodies, and came up with riffs for some of his solo band's songs, and helped arrange songs in virtually every band he was in including B Sabbath. To me the greatest indication of how important to B Sabbath Dio was is again just looking at the fact Sabbath were going nowhere when he joined. People thought they were already finished with Ozzy because (to reiterate) their last 2 albums in the 70's with Ozzy had face planted on the charts. Then Dio comes in and Sabbath are a force in the rock world again with a Platinum album. This is in direct opposite comparison to a group like Van Halen who...when David Lee Roth left in 1985 Van Halen were coming off their biggest album ever (still to this day I might add with 10 million copies sold) with the "1984" album, and were at their zenith of popularity. So Sammy Hagar INHERITED the biggest rock group in the world, Ronnie James Dio came into Sabbath at literally their arguably lowest point by comparison, and Dio still succeeded mightily. Dio was a force of nature. And if you want to hear Sabbath go heavier with Dio, just listen to the title track for their next album after this one entitled "Mob Rules". At the time in 1981 Sabbath had NEVER done anything that heavy before. Of if you really want to hear B Sabbath at their heaviest listen to anything off their 1992 reunion album with Dio called Dehumanizer. If you want heavy, that album will melt your ears.
Thanks for this good info. We aren't familiar with the band's history and this does help. While at this point (still early in our journey to discover their music) we have preferred the earlier stuff, this song was a good song and stuck in Coach's head days after the reaction. Also, I like Hagar better than Roth, too. LOL Thanks for the great comment.
Hello! I think that Dio was at his best in Rainbow. Their tandem with Ritchie Blackmore (one of the founders and leading guitarist of Deep Purple) was a unique one - Blackmore's music and Dio's lyrics just found each other. If you want to hear Dio at his height, I highly recommend you to listen and react to Mistreated (Live in Munich 1977) th-cam.com/video/3RiJKuYvy0s/w-d-xo.html You won't regret. It's a Deep Purple song, but Dio sings it differently and extremely beautifully.
"He's not a bad vocalist at all" made me laugh. Ah, no he's not, arguably the best Metal singer ever. If not certainly in the top Three with Halford and Dickinson although I put Geoff Tate ahead of Dickinson (I know I'm gonna get crap for saying that). Dio and Halford the best ever, either could be #1 in my book.
Ozzy was not the lyricist in Sabbath (the song lyrics had been primarily written by Geezer Butler - the bassist). When Dio joined - after having left Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow - he took-on most all the lyric responsibilities during his tenure in Sabbath. There are 2 camps - Ozzy and Dio but Dio is by far the superior vocalist between the 2. Preferences related to style is another conversation to be had
For metal fans like me, this album with Dio in Sabbath was like a Christmas present, because shortly after Blizzard of Oz came out, and we essentially got two great bands that were arguably better than those who preceded them. Some of what you're calling polished is of course technical, but it is also a product of maturity in the musicians themselves, and an expression of what they wanted to be doing and produce. By this time, Sabbath could dictate its own sound, allowing the band to move in the creative direction they wanted to. This wasn't an air play album, but it did get out there in spits and spurts, and we heard it, and we bought it.
Dio is the singer and frontman standard bearer of Rock/Metal. His own stuff is awesome too. “Rainbow In the Dark” is one that you might have heard. His music with Richie Blackmore and Rainbow is great. There are some Dio ballads that are amazing. “Rainbow Eyes”, “Catch the Rainbow”, are two great ones.
I saw them on this tour, this particular song went on for ages. And it was magnificent. The last track on the album is something else. Not much Dio but lots of Tony (Lonely Is The Word).
I was aged 15-16 in 1979 - 1980. So, I was Teenager listening to Black Sabbath in the 70’s-80’s. In my mind and in my opinion, “Heaven and Hell” is the best Black Sabbath album of all time. The song called, “Die Young” on the Album is the best followed by the song, “Lonely is the Word” and then “Neon Knights”. Some of Ozzy’s stuff is Ok but Ronny James Dio in my mind runs rings around Ozzy. Tony Iommi’s guitar work on the Album “Heaven and Hell" is the best ( especially on the song, “Die Young” and “Lonely is the Word” ).
i was in school when this came out, and yes it was played on some radio stations. those were what we used to call "album rock" radio stations. back then, if you wanted to hear hard rock or metal, those were the only stations that played it -- but it was usually part of a programming format that included southern rock, progressive, some punk / new wave, etc. it was only in a few big cities where there was enough of a market to support an all hard rock / metal station --- and a lot of those stations went under, or changed to other formats, by the end of the 1980's
Ozzy was done. He left the band twice during the recording of the previous two albums, then pretty much mailed it in. Sabbath would have died had they not made the change. Getting kicked out was the best thing that could have happened to Ozzy. His solo career was/is immense. If it matters, Iommi has stated he could do things musically with Dio that was impossible with Ozzy.
You mean Ozzie's voice is distinct to Black Sabbath but Ronnies voice is Quite distnct also. Yes different but it goes on and on and on... Also Ozzy has had a Stellar cereer. He has been kickin' Ass his whole musical life. R.I.P. Ronnie , Music can not ever forget you. The Passion was Real.
OK...i was there when they changed singers...saw Dio 2 tines...out of the hundreds of shows i was at, Dio stands on top...the KING OF ALL SINGERS hands down...don't know to add..........
I remember that once Dio said (asked about Ozzy and their bad relationship) "i will start respecting him, when he finally will learn to sing as good as i can". Loved how sassy he was when it came to ozz 😂 Dio def wins with his singing, his abilities and stage performance, but Ozzy is legacy of Black Sabbath (even though i prefer Dio era much more)
Sterilised!??? The band was on its knees before this album resurrected their career. Sorry this is "no run of the mill song" but hey that's the joy of music Mr Ronnie James Dio we Thankyou! 🏴🤘
Dio is an icon In his own right. But as far as replacing Ozzy when he left Sabbath you can’t ask for any better. Black Sabbath also had Ian Gillian come on board when Dio left. Ian was formerly the singer of Deep Purple who is an AMAZING vocalist. Check out Sabbath with Ian next! The album Born Again .. Trashed is an awesome example of his vocals.
I actually really like Dios voice, especially on some of his solo-stuff and in Rainbow (a group he had with Ritchie Blackmore from Deep Purple), but Sabbath with Dio is just something else than Black Sabbath. To me Sabbath has always been with Ozzy, so I pretty much regard this as a different group (even though they share the name). Not worse or anything like that, just something completely different. It was fun watching your reaction!
Hey guys. You should check out Dio when he was in Rainbow. Many great songs to pick from. Check out Stargazer and you'll hear why Ronnie is considered one of the best singers.
Im actually a little surpriced to hear that Dio didnt make and impression on you since he in my opinion at least is just that kind of singer that would make you go wow and in many peoples and also famous metal singers/artists he is the greatest metal singer of all time and has influenced many many singers. Black sabbath with Dio is a bit like a different band and i think they even intended to call it something different but the record company wanted the proven brandname. The dynamics certainly changed since Dio wrote all lyrics, before almost all lyrics were written by the bassplayer and Dio could also write music and had played bass for many years in bands before while also singing, Ozzy didnt write much in Sabbath, i think he did vocal melodies mainly.
i think geezer wrote the more positive/better lyrics. the devil stuff and holy diver [A priest being sacrificed ?] kinda stereotypical metal. still a great singer though. just imo.
@@JamShack817 The point of the Holy diver cover was to question what you see and not judge the book by the cover, is it a devil drowning a priest or is it the other way around (all from the mouth if Dio himself in interviews). Dio also said that his lyrics are usually metaphors for things in reality but made so that they can be interpreted by the listener to make the song their own. I also think that Geezer wrote great lyrics but i really love Dio´s lyrics very very much since i have always interpreted them and made them my own and they mean a lot to me, and he did write a lot of lyrics that empowered me in a positive way like the song Stand up and shout for example. These kind of lyrics may seem stereotypical at the surface if you dont interpret them but Dio was probably one of the first to write metal lyrics like this when he started doing that in the 70´s in Rainbow, many have followed his example both as a singer/frontman and songwriter.
he was a very gifted songwriter kind person and gifted singer i will take more time to interpret the lyrics as i haven't listened to it enough to understand what he was putting forth. I loved him in the scorpions. people get stuck in their own era of music and don't take time to let it grow on them a little bit. Black Sabbath's great versatility was due to the lead guitarist Tony Iommi's creative genius. He is also the one who hired the other band members. Ian Gillan from Deep Purple followed Dio and then the criminally underrated Tony Martin, and they all were great. Ozzy was fired for not pulling his weight due to excessive drug use. I suggest When Death Calls from the Tony Martin era. Also, Symptom of the Universe and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath from the Ozzy era are excellent. The Devil Cried from the Dio era is outstanding.

If you want to hear more of Dio, try the song Kill The King by Rainbow, a faster-paced song that I think Coach may enjoy. Also, the song many people say is the best is Stargazer, also by Rainbow.
Yes, Stargazer! It's amazing. They need to react to that one for sure.
How was Ozzy pushed out of the band if Dio was already lead singer? lol
@@TheSmittenman Ozzy was pushed out before Dio was hired.
This is not serialized metal. This is the beginning of modern metal. 1980 , kick ass song
Sterilized was his comment .Actually, our host nails it - Dio brought a more generic , hard rock style and appeal that was a classic 1980s sound .The sound of Ozzy early 70s Sabbath was anything but generic .
"it's not Ozzy" No it is not... It's way better than Ozzy. And don't get me wrong... I love Ozzy.

DIO WAS GOD! you are listening to the greatest metal singer ever❤
LOL, that's a bit much. Music is an art. What one likes another may not. It's all purely subjective.
Dio is Jesus .Ozzy is God the creator of all metal an theirs no debate
Appreciate that!
Imagine what WE went through in 1980 when we first heard this. It was quite a shock, but I loved it on first listen in 80.
This was far better than the last 2 Black Sabbath albums (Technical Ecstasy, Never Say Die were to me, stinkers)
I was blown away by this album, the song writing, the performances, and RJD.(RIP)
Besides it's only one song you've heard from RJDs stint in Black Sabbath.

Dio is the G.O.A.T🤘🤘🤘🤘
You can’t b Black Sabbath fans if you don’t recognize geezer & Iommi playing together. Dio is the GOAT!
To me, I just see it as Sabbath got a new singer & excelled into even greater heights. To my ears.
"Neon Knights " from this recording is in my top 5 metal songs of alll time.🤘
I was shooting pool in a buddies basement one afternoon and he started playing an album.
@@jayedwards4787 Its hard to say that when his contemporaries say he is an important and key figure.
Ozzy was kicked out of Black Sabbath due to his out of control Cocane dependency and Dio was kicked out of Rainbow for not wanting to become a total sell out
Dio tiny guy (5'4", 1.67m), 10 foot voice. He was amazing, started recording in a band called Elf way before this.

Well he actually started recording in the late 50´s already, Elf was in the early 70´s.
Ronnie & the Red Caps , Ronnie Dio & the Prophets , etc
Coach
Dio learn his breath control while singing from playing trumpet when he was young in school.
Very cool.
Here’s the link.

Respect the opinion but disagree.
I think that Ozzy had an amazing energy but Dio I think eclipsed him.
The big difference between this song and majority of other 80s rock songs is the subject matter. While this song is more philosophical, majority of other rock songs of the 80s were about romance and women. Black Sabbath did change some aspects of its style after Ozzy, but kept the their philosophical, political, doomy approach.
Totally respect that. And you're right about a lot of the other '80s stuff.
It doesn't matter how many singers they got. It's still gonna be called Black Sabbath.
All because of one Amazing guitar player MR SABBATH...TONY Iommi
As great a vocalist as he was, I don't really associate his sound with Black Sabbath. Usually, Blackmore's Rainbow comes to mind first. He did introduce the malocchio during the Sabbath era which endured and transcended all the way to Dreamcatcher's Scream.
Not to diminish Ozzy at all because I've always loved Black Sabbath but Dio is the absolute king of the stage.
This is the first Black Sabbath's first live album. RONNIE JAMES DIO
Another great Black Sabbath song with Dio as lead singer is Children of the Sea.
so hear are a few things that need to be noted: Black Sabbath were literally a DEAD issue in the U.S. at the time of this release.
Wow, I didn't know all this. Great info! And thank you, I love Dio so much! ❤

Thanks for this suggestion!
Several other noteworthy Dio era Sabbath tunes. Die Young, Neon Knights and The Sign of the Southern Cross
Ozzy was fired. He was doing a lot of drugs which affected the whole band. Dio breathed a new life into them
This is Ronnie James Dio with Sabbath as backup as far as I'm concerned. Dio rules!🤘

Not much Dio but lots of Tony (Lonely Is The Word).
kicking Ozzys drunkass out of Sabbath gave us 6 great albums
Ozzie was fired because of 'excessive substance abuse' in 1979.
Win/win situations are always good to see.

70s Sabbath defines 70s metal, 80s Sabbath defines 80s metal.
