    In Dan's mind those little tail wings on real planes are just cute decorations. Completely unnecessary.

    I love how the entire time dan was trying to make the plane he thought it was front heavy... when he needed the elevators (the wings on the back of the plane)

    • @parker02311
      @parker02311 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There called horizontal stabilizers

    • @parker02311
      @parker02311 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The horizontal stabilizer are the control surfaces on an airplane that make the aircraft pitch nose UP or DOWN and causes the airplane to rise or descend also used to roll the aircraft left and right. The horizontal stabilizer are usually on the tail of the aircraft and are mounted on the horizontal tail surfaces. However, some aircraft have this control forward of the main wings.

  • @colemadonna6284
    @colemadonna6284 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I’m pretty sure if he had just put a horizontal stabilizer on his plane it would have worked. It pitches up so much because there is no tail down force, which an upside down wing at the back would’ve provided.

    • @MGSLurmey
      @MGSLurmey 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty sure if it's pitching up you don't want to add *more* torque in the same direction. An upside-down wing would indeed provide a force pushing the tail down, helping to pitch the plane further up. He needed a right-side-up wing in the back as the elevators in order to provide some *lift* to the tail, not the opposite.

      The biggest problem was the center of lift being in the complete wrong place so none of those would of saved the plane

      harley davis ...you need to bring the wings toward the center of mass. you typically don’t design a craft based on the initial wing position

      @wooglestone 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      but wouldn't him cutting down on the weight at the back also help i mean he tried to move the wings and while it did help it didn't completely fix it

    In this episode of "Dan, while being a longtime lover of aircraft, has never heard of 'verticle stabilizers'", Mr. Hardcastle continues his inexplicable ttempt to build aircraft without verticle stabilizers. It was pointed out to him during the livestream, but he responded, "Shut up, you tart!" While hilarious, it would have been kinda nice if he had learned the lesson.
    If one didn't know better, one might get the idea that maybe the game's physics engine is a little janky or perhaps the devs didn't do a good job of implementing aerodynamics. But, lol, no. That's just Dan. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Yeah, I wonder why that massive block of metal in the back, without any wings to support that weight, pulled the back down...^^

    I thought Dan watched Scott Manley. You want your centre of lift to be equal to your centre of mass, so the wings should be in the middle, or if you want them at the front, you'll want some more at the back.
