Sims can either get through the tiniest gap possible or they can’t get in bed because of a pet toy and there’s no in between. And yes, the second one has happened to me and I didn’t figure it out until I had moved literally everything else first.
The tile count accidentally jumping from 64 tiles to 72 tiles because of how the balcony fence was placed stressed me out haha. Such a great build tho!
sometimes when Kayla is fixing something she says "oh, you've probably been screaming at the screen this whole time" but I never notice the what's wrong before she mentions it this time I've actually felt like screaming at the screen a little bit for the first time hahahhaha (probably because I've been doing the same mistake myself with tiny houses a lot)
I was waiting for Kayla to notice and fix it the entire time. 😭 When she was doing the bathroom, I was thinking, "Well, you might as well make the bathroom bigger now, since the house is already 72 tiles..." 😅 But oh well, it's still a cute build and fairly easy to fix ourselves if we download it.
I LOVE THAT YOU USED SO MUCH WHITE! I have a bachelor’s in environmental science (in a month lol) and environmentalism is my special interest. A popular pretty new theory in eco-innovation and bio geochemistry is that white surfaces reflect sunlight (think of the difference between wearing white or black in sunlight). Its being tested right now if large white surfaces helps to reduce global warming from sunlight. Not sure if one white house would help tho haha. But if I were to build an eco house irl I’d probably make as much as possible white!
Wasn't there some hypothesis about cooling down melted polar areas by covering the brown soil with white cloth? It sounded both plausible, insane and pretty awesome.
In a lot of southern europe where the summers are very hot, the traditional architecture is to have thick stone walls painted white. The white helps to reflect solar gain, and the thick stone has a high thermal capacity so when it has cooled down it takes a lot of energy to warm it up. The result is that the indoors of the traditional houses is surprisingly cool without modern air conditioning.
In the same way white helps with keeping buildings cooler, black helps with heating! Architecture around the world tends to reflect this with popular roofing or siding options being darker in regions that are colder year-round and lighter in regions that are hotter year-round. iirc places that get both cold and hot tend to go for lighter colors more since you can always put more clothes on if cold is your issue, but you can only take so many off to help cool down :P Pretty neat how relevant it still is despite advances in insulation technology ^^
I just googled it, and Reddit says that simsie is right, and that the higher the number the better it is for the Eco house, but I feel the the way that they laid it out is super confusing! Bc the way I read it is as power *consume* ption rating, so I saw it as the higher the number, the more power it’s *consuming* buuuut she had it right, so it all worked out 😅 I just feel like they definitely could’ve clarified more on which it is, bc it does make a pretty big difference.
TOTALLY AGREE!! One of the more over-hated ones for sure. There's so much cheap decor, it really helps for early-game builds. And the termite box is so cute :)
love it! i make all of my builds eco friendly. three suggestions for this build. 1. add a bee box. they help with gardening and they produce wax that your sims can use in candle making. 2. replace some of the fake vertical planters with real vertical planters. they can be turned into fake meat walls. 3. replace the outdoor lights with off the grid lanterns.
@@brittknee1146 i googled it. why did the sims team make that. who's idea was that. it looks like somethin you'd find in Mystery Flesh Pit National Park ngl
Yeah, I was puzzled on the choice of not using the actual vertical planters and instead have ones prefilled with things, and I would also have added the bees because of the wax (nvm the other benefits). The meat thing though... my friend did not warn me... she was too busy cackling lol
Hedges are eco friendly because alot of insects as an example fireflies live there and some birds would choose to build their home there if the hedge is tight enough. You obviously need flowers and other stuff for a great garden.
i love how in a couple videos back the comments suggested no budget limits and you've really listened and the builds are so cool (they've always been amazing) but also you've done it in a very lowkey way - you're the best queen :D
a bit off topic, but i think sometimes you should try something different from the floor plan you usually do. for example, everytime you can fit 2+ bedrooms you turn them into a kids/teen bedroom, but you could also make them music rooms, art studios, candle makers spaces, little cinemas, laundry room etc... i think sometimes making a house with these different, but useful spaces could be really cool!!!
That’s how my house is, I have an indoor gym, a bar lounge, and my own comedy club on the third floor. I have a second floor hooks lounge balcony, and a huge pool with outdoor area, I think my layout is cool but I want her to add the final touches!
Hey guys for who didn't know already, the blooming rooms kit is gonna be free in a few weeks, there is not a date i think but don buy it yet save your money💚🎮 Edit: Tysm for this many likes!
Could have put a tub in that area upstairs - I've seen lots houses that have that - its weird but also if its just a couple it works. - and the you could bath upstairs and use the bathroom downstairs
What about a intense minimalist challenge? Force yourself to only be allowed to only use like 15 or 25 pieces of furniture/decor while trying to make it look decent and functional 🤔
"you never think you're gonna use the bowling pack and then, all of a sudden, you're putting it in you eco-home" is wiiiiild (9:21) and very specific akjdjadakskk
The build is amazing! But I would like to mention the fact that, if I recall correctly, the higher the power consumption is, the more power it consumes a.k.a the more bills you'll get, so if you want a fully ecological house the ideal thing is to replace electrical lights with candles! And also, the more plants you have, the better! So actually making an entire hedge fence using the square hedge plant instead of the actual fence itself, even though it would be expensive, it gives you a crazy amount of green eco footprint!
She mentions that in the video; the higher the number the better the RATING. It's not well explained, but in the case of power/water consumption, higher number there is good.
whew lol i was so excited to finally have a build for ONE sim and not have there be any kids room/baby stuff, and then kayla almost added a nursery! i'd love to see more single sim, adult-only households in the future :)
I really liked the idea of a nursery upstairs, and even though you make a really good point about growth in that home, I've heard that it's not uncommon in some European countries to just move after a few years to a more suitable home. That makes room for a new family or whoever to move into the smaller home. In terms of growth you could eventually expand it for gameplay and it wont be tiny anymore, but by then ur sims could have big skills etc and be fully self sufficient Edit to add: regarding the hedges, yes it can be eco friendly! Utilising plant species on your land/home actually can reduce indoor temperature, and plants are essential for us if we like to breathe oxygen. It probably wouldn't be a neat and pretty hedge, and it would likely need to grow along with a myriad of other plants, since permaculture is a far more sustainable practice in "greening" your space. Lawns are often frowned upon, and the concrete would likely not be chosen for an eco home since it's hard to find carbon neutral/positive concrete production. Probably stones or reclaimed wood would be the vibe.
I love that you decided to add a stereo to the shelf downstairs so there can be music down there even though you used the tiny living tv which includes a stereo lol double music!
Kayla, I just wanted to say I love your videos. I've watched them for a long time now, sometimes while cleaning, sometimes just watching it by itself. It's always so relaxing and inspiring to play the game again. Thank you ❤
Not going to lie I’m obsessed with this house! I think the houses you build recently look so cool, and I feel like you experiment much more, love that 💖
I actually really like this house. It looks quite chill and no warm vibe inside the house, but well i can change few things to have warm vibe and match with my style tho
Something else I've done for extra power or water production is putting extra roofs on and hiding them by flattening them. So for example, you could put a grass roof on this house and make it flat with no edges sticking out and it would give water production.
Someone really into self-sufficiency wouldn’t have that much pavement. It brings too much heat to a place which makes you use more energy. The more greenery the better.
One thing that never really made sense to me was for the wall shower to be high water consumption. If you are using one of those.... it's because you are in a tiny home. If you are in a tiny home then you are trying to cut bills... generally. Also if you are using a wall shower you probably aren't going to want to stay in the shower a long time which by definition would be a low consumption!
Eco Lifestyle was the first pack I’ve ever bought in the Sims just because. I had a feeling that I‘d might like it. And to no surprise, it is the best pack I have and that money was spent wisely.
The weird post bed space as the bathroom was something I thought might be interesting. Weird to go through a bathroom to your balcony though lol. love the vid
I honestly don't know if this bothered anyone else but I HATED the bed placement. I don't know, but I felt like it would've made for more room and better placement if the bed was put by the windows in an orientation so it was also up against that divider thing that was around the stairs. I don't think it bothered anyone else but yk

Lol
Literally sooo confusing 😂
So thinking like 10/10? That rating is obviously a better rating than a 3/10. That makes better sense
Power efficiency/water efficiency would be so much better as phrasing
