This comment suddenly made sense once I got to 13:13 and all I could think was; they bring you back to a beautiful, blue suburban. Everything seems okay. They then unalive you in their creepy, dingy strangerville bathroom 😂
I'd love to see you do Sarah Kendall's challenge. You decorate each room with a random pack, like this, but you cannot use that pack. So you get vampires.. you have yo use all other packs to make a room that looks like you used the vampires pack. Sorry I previously thought it was syd mac's challenge. Credit where credit is due. Both are great though
the pastel yellow with the glossy dark blue makes *me personally* gag a bit. given that nearly 500 hundred people thought it looked great suggests i need to refine my aesthetic sense.
Kayla always says “I’m trying to make this look good” or “I’m trying not to be too chaotic” but honestly these challenges are FOR the chaos. Not everything has to match and be a family house, make it chaotic and ridiculous- that’s the fun of it
Exactly! The chaos is part of the fun! Not every build needs to be perfect! Also, I'd love to see Kayla do more build for sims without kids. It seems like a lot of her builds include a kids room
I think Kayla's version is fun too; not everyone has to play the same way. I get so frustrated when simmers are so strict on this challenge that the rooms don't actually function. It's creative and impressive what people come up with and I do enjoy it sometimes, but it can get a little tedious for me so I was relieved that Kayla used base game too. She still used mostly items from the packs chosen. If it were me I would have done a Strangerville style bathroom using mostly decor from the pack with base game plumbing etc. so it fit in with the house more, but that's just my preference/mood rn lol sometimes I like chaotic, but sometimes I find it more satisfying to see something inspired by something but not completely following the rules. (Sorry long comment a week after yours but as an autistic person who has a complicated relationship with the concept of rules I felt the need to defend Kayla's take!)
I feel like you should have embraced the challenge a little more. Like if there was only one wallpaper you have to use said wallpaper. Some rooms I feel turned into base game rooms lol. Cute build tho! Hahah.
A twist on this challenge I've found fun is you get two packs per room and have to somehow marry them into something that looks nice, you get some hectic combinations I never would have thought of otherwise! I've also found that instead of randomizing kits, just building a house with only kits can be a fun adventure in decorating
@@georgecarlos5746 I'm doing a house like that right now. Got super lucky and rolled For Rent and Snowy Escape so the styles all go really easily together! I'm actually loving this house
I totally think would build challenges like this, it’s probably better to, instead of trying to make the whole house look cohesive, make the individual rooms look good. That way you can go all out with the unique vibe of that pack in the room, bc you’re not worried about the room matching the house
trying to think of another variation for an "every room is a different" maybe: every room is a different age? like u have to do a grandma themed bathroom, or baby themed kitchen, teen bedroom, adult living room for example!
do this challenge but no base game at all other then windows, walls etc. If the pack doesn't have a toilet then the bathroom won't, because this is more of an each room is themed after a pack.
What if you did a challenge where each room is a different pack but you cannot use it? Example: Island Living dinning room, you have to use objects that reminds you of Island living. The idea is that the room looks as if it were from a pack but it doesn't not use any item from it. Maybe after Dan can guess which pack are you mimicking!
@@taykeway i’ve read in the comments here that sarah kendall created this challenge, but if i go check i will get distracted and forget so i’m just gonna parrot! they’re both great anyway :)
Next time you should spin the wheel first, and then choose what room to do based on what pack you roll! And to make it interesting you can only use that pack in the room you choose-no base game
Fun challenge idea: Same idea as this, but you spin a wheel specifically for an Expansion, Game, and Stuff pack. That way you a wide variety of items you can actually use, but you also can stick to or create a theme
A story to explain the weirdness: An eccentric famous actor retired, and had a house built for their retirement. Every room is based off of one of the films/TV shows they starred in.
I looooove this challange!!! I'm glad Kayla is doing it also, taking off the kits and doing a separate vid is smart (showcasing what's missing), I'd like you to do it
I think it would be cool to see a build where you have to use the 'correct' packs for each room, so for the kitchen you'd have to use home chef hustle, cool kitchen AND country kitchen kit. And for the garden you'd have to use backyard stuff, perfect patio AND romantic garden. I think it would be a fun challenge to try and make it work with all the different styles the packs have.
Honestly i would love to see you do a build without any restrictions. No money limit, no pack limit, no requirements. Simply what you love and what feels right
I think you should do this again, but without basegame AND still make it functional. So your kitchen might not have an oven, but you get a pack for a bedroom that has an oven -> oven in the bedroom
The only reason why all her houses end up looking like blue suburbans is because she stays inside her comfort zone. It doesn’t “look better” it’s just what she’s used to
I think it ruined the challenge a bit that you for example could use base game for the kitchen when you didn’t have the stuff needed in tiny living but idk I understand that the house needs to be functional but it isn’t really a challenge if you can do that
Yaaay! Can you make a house with just backyard stuff, my first pet stuff, and romantic garden stuff packs? Those are the only ones i have, love your builds either way 🫶
As someone also with just free packs, that sounds fun. (but I also have jungle adventure and luxury party). How desperate are you for a build, is it you just want lilsimsie to make it or you're struggling to make/find your own build? If you haven't seen it people use variants on the freepacks hashtag to share builds with mostly just those packs. Other than just using the pack hashtag in the search. I feel like sahm and bean's channel/discord might be helpful for getting a build if you're actually desperate. Like, I want to treat it as a build challenge but I'm still a very new builder.
I feel like this is a fixer upper that was half way renovated a decade ago and the previous owners gave up and made it the new owner's problem (specifically because of the strangerville bathroom haha)
i know we always say to not worry if it’s got any blue, because you don’t really want to have to avoid a whole primary colour, but the yellow was so cute! maybe branching out a bit outside the comfort zone and trying more colour combos in the same build might work? thanks for the video
I would love to see you do this again, and the twist is not only can you only use items from that room, but you can only build one completely at a time, including structure. It would be cool to look at it from the first person POV where you go through the door to the next room. But the next roll determines the room that comes next. I just had an idea for another challenge. NO BLUE. At all. Muahaha.
Simsie: "I don't think a box makes that much sense for the top of a coffee table." Me: *looks guiltily at the box that has been on my coffee table the last 8 years*
So fun! You can also try it the other way, make a bunch of rooms in different sizes and shapes and then let the pack decide what furniture comes in the room, so a small room and then you get like, dream home decorator, and a huge room with toddler or nifty knitting 😂😂😂 could also be fun! Almost the same as this vid ofc but it's a different mindset 😏
I feel like I would love one of these videos where you split the packs into categories that have sets for each room so you still get full done rooms from each spin

super NOT restricted but that could be fun once in a while too, build a whole house inspired by every kit!! not like you can only use kits or has to contain all objects but like. build a castle with a pastel pop bedroom and a "desert" backside. every "room" inspired by a kit!
You could do “every room is a different two build kits” so you have a higher likelihood of having at least some relevant items, plus it’ll be an extra challenge to make the two aesthetics work together.
If I was visiting somebody's house and asked where the guest bathroom was and walked into THAT, I would assume they were trying to murder me and run out of the house screaming 😅

I started in Willow Creek and each new generation heir moves to the next world, utilizing that pack’s gameplay and build theme. It’s been a great (sometimes painful) way to get familiar with packs that tend to get ignored.
the whole wooden sink in the bathroom debacle got me thinking it would be cool to see a video where you do something like this, but you don’t have to ONLY use the pack you’re assigned, but rather try to stick to the vibes of that pack as closely as possible. you could have a rule that at least 50% of the furniture in a given room has to be from its assigned pack if you want to avoid cheating, but yeah i’d love to see how you would ideally have styled that strangerville bathroom if given a little more leeway lol !
