  • This is my updated video that extends ramp times to 1 hour as popular requests.
    File can be found in the files section of the Facebook group AI Prime/Hydra Reef Group the file is titled Salty Pops.
    This video is about the coral growth and coloration I have achieved with the spectrums, settings, and schedule I use for my Aquaillumination AI Prime 16hd LED light.
    I have always been a bulb guy so I used that as my guide.
    Excluding ramps, I have 3 main settings to my tank.
    Lights on at 10am
    Lights off at 10pm
    Morning blue. Lights on at 10am and ramp to these settings until 11am. It is then held at these settings until 1230pm. This spectrum is a combination of the ATI T5 Blue Plus bulb and the Reef Brite T5 Actinic Bulb
    Spectrum lights used
    UV 60%
    Violet 72%
    Royal Blue 114%
    Blue 108%
    Day light. Ramp to daylight starts at 1230pm ends at 130pm and held at these daylight settings until 630p when it start to ramp to evening blue settings from 630pm until 730pm. Copied Reef Brite T5 HO Full Spectrum and the Reef Brite T5 50/50
    Spectrum lights used
    UV 42%
    Violet 62%
    Royal Blue 85%
    Blue 78%
    Green 15%
    Red 10%
    Cool White 60%
    Evening blue. These settings are a duplicate of the morning blue. Ramp to these from daylight starts at 630pm and completed at 730pm. Held until 9pm and then ramp to off from 9pm to 10pm.
    The corals you will see include
    Acans
    Montipora capricornis monti cap
    Montipora digitata
    Lemon lime torch
    Bi-color grafted branching hammer
    Wall and branching hammers

    Nice vid. Great explanation. At first I was like this schedule is wack but I saw how you kept the same intensity between switching from Blue to White with a variance of 2watts so very nice. So many people share spectrum but I think the intensity and how that shifts is very important or more so.

      Hello. If you want to create a ramp. Simply put a time marker and all values at 0. Then an hour later put a time marker and put the value you want it to be. The program will create a slow ramp for you.
      If you want to use my program, you can get the schedule a few ways:
      1. You can message me on Facebook.
      2. I have it saved in the files section of the FaceBook group AI Prime/Hydra Reef Group. It is called Salty Pops.
      3. Send me your email address and I’ll email it to you.
      4. Manually create in just 8 setting points.

    Hi there. I have a 25 Gallon JBJ AIO Cube 17 x 17 x 17 inches. What intensity do you recommend with your schedule for Prime 16HD is mounted at 10 inches above water? Mostly LPS corals, maybe some SPS in the near future. Currently have 1 Candy Cane, 1 Duncan, 1 Acan, 1 Torch, 1 Clove Polyp, and 1 Zoa. 2 Clowns, 2 Bangais, 1 Scizzor Tail Goby, 1 Fire Shrimp, and Clean up Crew. Just downloaded your spectrum and schedule and using it now, I just want to make sure I'm not overdoing it with the wattage output. I also have the tank in my room, so fan noise is a concern too. Thanks in advance.

    hey! I have a mostly softie tank with goniapora, Duncan, a rose bubble tip anemone, some montipora, hammers and blastos and some others I forget the names of lol and I am thinking of trying this schedule. My current schedule is this: 3 hour ramp up time starting at noon to these light settings: uv 40, violet 50, royal 60, blue 60, green 10, red 10, cool white 20, and that setting stays on the same levels until 9 pm. Then I have a ramp down time of 3 hours also. So I don’t have any ramping up or down at all during the day. Most of my corals are looking really good but I feel like they could do better, and after seeing your results I am thinking of trying your lighting schedule. Would you recommend it over what I currently have? I am worried about messing up my anemone and using a setting where the intensity of lights is too strong, what do you think? I would appreciate any help, great video by the way!

    • @saltypops4276
      @saltypops4276  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello. If your corals are doing well I wouldn’t change anything. Plus looking at your schedule you run blue start to finish and I have a daylight period with blue on both ends. Similar to how someone would run a bulb tank. The biggest risk you have with switching is your anemone. If it is happy where it is at and you change the light it may move and that would be bad. You could end up chasing it or possibly losing it to a pump. If you decide to make a change, ensure you do the 30 day acclimation sequence which will reduce the chance of the anemone moving.

      Hello. I agree social media is a difficult place to learn. You will find way too much conflicting information as well as people that have had short term success making wild accusations of how great something they did was when the long term results were not good. Smart to monitor and confirm what you hear on social media, I shake my head a lot when I read advice.
      The best thing to do is find a local reefer in the area that is experienced (years) and willing to help for free. If you don’t find that person, I have found that reading research and making my own decision is best. The mfg won’t give you exacts. BRS has good research videos, but again I would take them as advice, not definitive. LiveAquaria the same as BRS, solid advice but all in all advice. Read articles on studies as well.

      Hello. This would work great on that setup. The setup in the video is 36”L x 12”W x 24”H. So length and depth coverage are almost identical and as you can see this tank is Euphyllia dominated with acans on the sand bed and I have torch, hammer, frogspawn, Acan, Acanthophyllia, montipora, acropora, and basic mushrooms and leather. Pretty much everything. If you change, remember to run acclimation mode for 30 days. Additional info, my lights are 11” above the water, and 11” in from each side, making the 2 of them 14” apart from each other.

And they don’t expand during the day again as how it was in the morning. I am wondering why ? Is this light to much for my tank ? Although my other corals are very happy with this setting. Second. Confirming you are running 16 HD. If you are running 26, 32, or 64, the intensity at these %’s are too high and you will need to adjust them all down in equal amounts.
      Did you run acclimation for 30 days when you changed programs?
      If everything is correct and your corals are still closing on white light, they are not acclimated to it. They should open wider with the white light.

      @saltypops4276  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello. You can use this setting on Hydra 32, many people have. You will want to ensure all the percentages come through as they should, some people have noted issues when importing the file, others said it was fine, so I recommend checking. Depending on what you are keeping, you may want to consider reducing each setting my 30%. A Hydra 32 on 20 gallons is a lot of light, unless of course you are keeping an SPS dominated tank.

      730 pm - same as 11 am
      9 pm - same as 11 am
      10 pm - all 0
      You can obviously adjust your start and stop times. Also, like I said, depending on what you are keeping you may want to take 30% off each number. I recommend doing that math manually and changing each point instead of the 2 finger slide. I have seen issues with the 2 finger slide not aligning the spectrum properly.
      Hope you enjoy the schedule!

    Nice video Salty, but what is your flow schedule and intensity?

    • @saltypops4276
      @saltypops4276  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello. For flow, I use random flow and fluctuate my tank between 1100gph and 2100gph. My tank is only 12 inch front to back, if it was 18 or 24 I would go higher.
      I believe random flow is much more beneficial than static, not only random in speed but directionally, which is managed by either fluctuating a controllable Powerhead against static flow, which will change the overall flow direction of the tank or if you only have static powerheads, cycling them on and off to alter flow. For instance in a tank I took down a few years ago I had 3 static powerheads that all ran on together for 3 hours, then 1 shut off for 15 min, when it came back on a different one shut off for 15 min, when it came back on the last one shut off for 15 min, then they all went off for 15 min and only filtration flow was left. That created a 4 hour cycle that could repeated evenly over 24 hours.
      I have 2 other videos I suggest you watch. The first is Hammer Coral Care, it talks about my total flow. Second is Good Flow Healthy Coral.
      Hopes this helps.

      Short answer is yes they have more functionality. However, I know several people that have Kessel on their tanks and they primarily run blue tanks and supplement with reefbrite (not that the reefbrite is required, just preference). For me, I just preferred the functionality of AI. If you have Kessel and things are going well, stay with it. If you are looking for new lights I think you would be happier with AI.

      Hello. 2 AI Prime 16 HD can work on a 75 as long as you do coral placement properly. Awesome video thank you! My tank is 6 months old and my corals are struggling. Some are dying and the rest are not growing. I kept telling myself it was because the tank is still new. But after seeing your progress with a three month old tank it realizing I have something else going on. I’ve got three Hydra 64s on a Reefer 525XL. So I’m 5 feet wide by 2 feet top to bottom and 2 feet front to back. My lights are 14 inches from the water’s surface. I’m going to mimic your settings and see what happens. My biggest concern is that I’m going to have an algae explosion. I already have a lot of brown slime algae on my rocks. I would love any advice you have before I start messing with my settings. Thanks again for the great video!

    • @saltypops4276
      @saltypops4276  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At 6 months old you should be good with almost anything but acro, clams, some of those more sensitive things. LPS and softies should be thriving. You have a ton of light. I assume your end goal is a full SPS tank. If not you are way over powered. With that said, if you haven’t already you will need to ensure your percentages are dialed back. What percentages are you running. My tank is 24” deep (top to bottom) and 36” wide with just 2 AI Prime 16. With 3 Hydra 64 it is like you have 12 AI Prime 16s. You can’t take one away because you won’t have the coverage so you need to dial them down in percentage. If you want to mimic my settings, dial back the percentages or you will be way too much. As far as algae and corals, light doesn’t create algae it just determines how fast it grows. Seeing you already have algae that means there is a nutrient imbalance in your tank. So you need to solve that first. Several questions. What are your light percentages? Did you start with brand new live sand? Used sand from another reefer? Or dry sand? Did you start with live rock from the store? Live from another reefer? Or dry rock? Did you jump start with bacteria such as Microbe-Lift Special Blend? Have you put in pods? Do you feed the pods phytoplankton? If so how much? Water change frequency and percentage? What salt do you use? Do you dose or add anything? Do you feed your corals? If so what and how much and how often? What does your cleanup crew consist of (clean up crew is algae prevention) and how much of each do you have? Are you running a sump or canister filter? What is the content of you sump / filter? Send me more details and I can help more. Also if you haven’t already watch my videos on dosing, clean up crew and etc.

      @@EmpireReefer yeah that alk is pretty high? Are you getting any white buildup on your heater or any other equipment. That would be an indication that your alk and calcium ratio is off. I target alk a bit closer to 9. Also if you have been dosing with no real coral load in the tank that is why you are off. If you don’t have coral to consume what you dose you are creating the problem. Dose what your corals consume not what the product tells you to. When it comes to calcium and alk I also dose low because if you get outside of normal range, low is always better than high.

I mimic a combo of blue plus and actnic during blue and blue hex arc MH during white. I have another video showing the actual layover. 2 UV is good for coral but over exposure is not, especially for deeper water corals that are not used to it. I run my light for 12 hours so I take that into consideration. 3 I have read and gone through Facebook groups and have seen a common theme of boards and fans getting damaged due to heat of running high power for long periods of time. Plus the lens melting that many people attribute to high UV (although I have no first hand knowledge).
