    What a magnificent showman he was and a lovely person. To play all those great classics without a scrap of paper before him. He will be forever the GREATEST giving more than 40 years of pure brillance to the world.

    A breathtaking performance of one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written.

    Absolutely beautiful! And his tempo, the rubatos, and the soul in his playing was perfect. This is the tempo I used to play this piece, and it is much more thoughtful. I always hate when pianists play classics to fast, just because they can. They make the music about their technical ability, instead of the "soul" of the music. Even Herr Mozart hated when people played his music to fast...RIP Lee...

      I couldn't agree more. The emotion and feelings he so perfectly manages to express sends shivers down my spine and brings tears to my eyes. That's the power of music when played so sensitively and so very masterfully. It's not an examination where you get marks for technical 'correctness' but about the soul of the music coming alive.

    It's hard to believe that people, every day people, learned about beautiful, classical music from seeing this man all through the era of television. He had his own show for awhile, guested on many variety shows, talk shows etc. He provided an "in" to the average person, to experience music that could generally only have been heard for those who could afford it. He also gave the first hints of acceptability for gay folks, everyone knew he was, but dare'nt say anything cause he was so damned talented. Bravo Lee! Thank you.

    I remember seeing this on television (tells you how old I am - I was just a kid then) and boy oh boy! What an impression it made on me. I loved Liberace' and I loved Claire de Lune. The combination is just WOW! Breath-taking.

    Isn't it amazing how a piece of music - especially one that has been played by SO many artists, can sound SO different under the fingers of each artist? This is a song that I've heard a million times, and yet..... under Liberace's interpretation, there's a whole new richness to the music - even without accompaniment. Stunning. Even more so when you think of all that weight that he had on his fingers, that they could still flit so lightly across the keys, to say nothing of the weight of some of his costumes.... I don't think I would've been able to lift my arms with some of those jackets he wore.Stunning.

    At least he put some hesitation into the song, I hate it when ppl play this song too fast. This song makes me feel like I am in the garden of Eden without a care in the world!

      I agree that Lee and the orchestra give excellent pacing/tempo to "Clair de Lune". Yet if you find on YT the composer's own playing of this piece, you will note how much faster Debussy plays it than others who followed him.

    In my humble and not formally musically educated opinion, this is possibly the most beautiful piece of music ever composed. Whenever I hear it I tear up, but this mans performance makes me weep, so brilliant and touching. I have gone to see a lot of performers in concert, from Pink Floyd to Sammy Davis Jr. the only two people that I wanted to see and never did, were Tom Petty and Liberace.

      Another beautiful piano piece I'd like to suggest is Mahler's 5th Symphony Adagio, it's like mentally going on a journey to heaven, almost literally. Hope you like it and take care.

    • @scibear9944
      @scibear9944 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      david carroll Nope. This is a "tone poem." Its supposed to make you think of a summery moonlit night, like with moonbeams shining down through the trees, soft breezes, maybe a stream nearby, etc. It's pretty amazing how Debussy was able to do this, to evoke a scene just by using music with no words necessary. Another amazing example of a tone poem is the first movement of Beethoven's 6th symphony (the "Pastoral Symphony"), which wonderfully depicts shepherds in the fields on a hot day, with an awesome thunderstorm later in the day. You should look it up and listen to it if you haven't already😊

      No. BTW, the actual piece is piano only. The orchestra is not bad but it gives the piece a bit of a McDonald's feel.

    This is one of my favorite piano pieces. He plays it brilliantly.
    I just wish there wasn't a background orchestra playing.
    It took so much focus away from liberace's playing.

    A great Pianist but I never see any credits for the orchestras or arrangers. Did Liberace write the arrangements for orchestra? The orchestral and band backings were wonderful as well as (of course) Liberace's beautiful piano interpretations.

    He trained as a concert pianist, then went into lighter music and comedy. Shame. I enjoyed his playing very much. There are pianist, and There are Pianist, and just like A VOICE, every emotion is expressed through sound, whether, it be piano, violin, saxophone, etc. Comes from within. Beautiful.
