    I agree with you and Im a big believer on seeing what looks good to you and don't base it off of what other people say. You could be missing out on your favorite movie because someone said something negative about it. Great video man!

      That’s very true, people have to think for themselves. I frequently will check with RT after the movie to see if it matches up with what I thought that it would be.

    Well said - I’ve noticed a lot of communities on TH-cam, Fitness, Film reviews, etc… have a tendency to turn on each other over time. Your approach is much better. Great video.

    Steven, you’re even nice with your rants 😁. I also don’t let reviews sway me from watching a movie. I enjoy hearing the opinions of people I like, but as someone who has also made a movie, I try to be more forgiving knowing what it took to make it. I try and make my out of the theater reactions, which are only 1 minute and spoiler free, more about what to expect than an actual lengthy review, with maybe an opinion or two tossed in for good measure.

      Thanks Huck, I’m an old softy and my thumbnail could be viewed as click-bait. 🤣
      Yes, I pretty much only do out of the theater reactions now too, if I had more than a minute to talk I would spoil the whole movie. 😂

    It used to be fun listening to reviews when I first got into TH-cam, but now that shit’s kinda weak. All of these big movie critics have nothing interesting to say anyway, and their subscribers basically just parrot whatever they say until it turns into some kind of a damn echo chamber. Great video, man. 🤘🏻

    I don’t let any singular individual dictate what I see in theaters, generally speaking I have an idea of whether or not a movie is gonna interest me or not. If the general consensus around a movie is that it’s bad, however, that will definitely be a factor for me regarding whether I see a movie.

    I used to love watching Siskel & Ebert - I used to love going to the movies - but it seems like they don’t really make movies for people our age anymore. There used to be an interesting movie coming out every week or every other week - a courtroom drama or a psychological thriller type of movie. I’ve only seen three movies in the theater this year. By trying to appeal to everyone they end up appealing to no one.

    Interesting video. I agree 100 with you. TH-camrs, or any movie reviewers for that matter, do not influence my decisions to see movies. No one can tell me if a movie is good, or bad. I pay my own money to see a movie so only I can decide if the movie is good or bad. That is the same with every individual person. I loved Siskel & Ebert but never took their reviews as “be all end all”. No reviewer has that kind of power.

  • @SPBASS
    @SPBASS 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Yo Steve, didn't know you'd done this rant. I very rarely log onto my TH-cam and no notifications. These "hateful" TH-cam movie reviewers view it as a "career", for whatever reason they failed in the general work populace so try playing the online numbers game. They don't give a crap about the movies or genre they're reviewing, what they care about foremost is clicks. Now if all you care about is drawing attention to your channel you're never going to be sincere about a movie, because your mindset is tainted by getting more eyeballs onto your uploads hence subscribers. I've seen several TH-camrs follow this path. They start with positive or neutral reviews, an already overcrowded marketplace, and get nowhere. Then do one hateful upload and all of a sudden they have 1000 new subscribers. Which in turn leads to them doing it again and again. The problem with this approach is, as you know, the subsequent accompanying negative discourse leads to polarisation and that is toxic, you're not going to get reasoned or fun debate from polarisation, look at how around the world currently right and left wing political groups, whom to their own country's detriment, refuse to agree on anything! Many refuse to engage with politics as they view it as toxic. Now Art, although it can be politicised, is not real life politics, as you say it's escapism. Hence the toxic discourse does put audiences off going to the theatre, and that is harmful for the film industry all along the supply chain. For example, see the current Rotten Tomatoes audience score for The Acolyte. The hatemongers were told it's not for them, they've gone on to review bomb it anyway, so everyone's talking about the negativity rather than the show itself.
    The hatemongers do not care if a local community theatre closes down. Oh they may pretend too, but they do not. Cinema's closing down just gives them another hateful clickbait title to shove on their channel: "They should''ve done what I said, nothing to do with me, it's all their own fault, don't blame me blame the algorithm", etc.. This is a self-destructive process. Fewer cinema's, fewer movies that anyone cares about to review, less clicks. Take Stuckmann, he's always wanted to make movies, but he made his name as a movie reviewer including hateful reviews. He lacked foresight when he did this and created a juxtaposition. Stuckmann needs cinemas to show his "movie" and non-hateful audiences who aren't going to review bomb it.
    If memory serves the covert bigoted hatemongering TH-cam stuff started with Doomcock around the time of Ghostbusters (2016) then along came Critical Drinker and self-proclaimed MAGA Nerdrotic who refined the style. And now you have people like Cody Leach attempting to insert themselves into that hate fuelled arena/pick up some of that traffic by telling followers to not go and see movies. Nerdrotic and his "followers" went for Star Trek: Discovery in 2017. According to him Star Trek: Discovery was going to be cancelled after the first season, he lies to his audience and they just follow along like a brainwashed lynch mob, a la Alex Jones's herd.
    Also, I'm 6ft and all the men in my family are taller than me going up to about 6ft10. You'd fit right in, lol.

      Wow! I really appreciate the time and thought you gave on your comments and I couldn’t have said it any better myself. Yes, I try not to go too negative in my videos because I love movies and movie theatres and I don’t want to kill them. The Watchers is a new example, I saw it today and although it’s a bit of a slow burn it deserves better than a 30% score on RT and I really liked the third act.
