This is a very well presented tribute CN i'm very much impressed BREL certainly built the MK 2D's and MK 2E's to last lasting in NZ service nearly as long as they did back in The U.K

I rode on the new Capital Connection carriages only a few days ago.
My only real complaint shared by fellow passengers, is the lack of overhead luggage racks on the new coaches.
I have to admit the the new coaches fitted with CRRC bogies offered a much smoother and comfortable ride
compared with the older Kinki bogies on the S Class coaches.
Great video as usual by the way.

I took the capital connection a few times in the late 90s and in 2000 & 2001. And I remember when the S class configured carriages entered service around the turn of the new century, and I can attest that they were a revelation in terms of ergonomics and comfort and insulation. I also used to take the Wairarapa trains in the Hutt valley (before the tight petty losers in the Wairarapa put a stop to it) and the introduction of the SW was also a similar sea change. I think that people would have been motivated to take the train from the Wairarapa with the increased conform levels. And the interiors were so much nicer than the old 56 ft crappers that they replaced.
So it’s a bit odd seeing them now being too old and needing replacement. But of course it’s inevitable, they’ve served this his run for almost 25 years, and they weren’t new when Tranz rail acquired them.
    But as for their replacement?
Well I’ll have to ride to know first hand. But I can see immediately that the seats look comfortable. However; I think that removing the overhead luggage storage is a BIG mistake. And I’m not too keen on the double doors not being at the end of the carriage and segregated from the seating area, the old door arrangement was fine as it prevented cold winter drafts from getting inside the carriages and they never had large amounts of people alighting all at once, thus needing double doors. I wonder if they’re intending to move the carriages to the Huia once the new rolling stock arrives?

I manage to get the shot on the 28th of July and it was just fantastic! I also got 2 Carriage transfer movements on the 30th with a few other trainspotters at Takapu Road. And fancy enough Morgz was on both of the transfer trains! exchanging the S stock for the SR's!

I saw all those pictures on Facebook, and I'm hoping to ride on the SRs later this year. It'll be interesting to compare them with Te Huia.

Are you going to try to ride a new SR carriage capital connection train?

That's the plan, yes. Although I expect these coaches to be very similar to Te Huia.

Only after it's official announcement, assuming it's actually happening.
