- During August and September 2022, we cover various KiwiRail freight and passenger trains across the length of the North Island Main Trunk Line between Wellington and Auckland. Enjoy the sounds of the DL locomotives hard at work along the steep grades through the heart of the North Island, as well as the DFB class hauling Te Huia, Capital Connection & Northern Explorer passenger trains.
EF's 30013 & 30140 make an appearance leading Train 234 as a trail run. KiwiRail is planning to reinstate some of the older EF's back into service soon, along with the new refurbished EF's 30163 & 30226.
The Main Trunk is over 600 Kilometers long, and travels along coastal cliffs, river valleys, plains and past the tallest mountains in the North Island along the Central Plateau.
Enjoy!
Great Video, some interesting trains and destinations, thanks for sharing
Simply awesome. Fantastic variety of locations with beautiful countryside. Appreciated this.

Nice video, got some good shots here, my favourite were the EF shots.

I think there is a plan to refurbish all the EF's in groups or two - need to check that out more. It would make sense in reaction to carbon reduction and independence.
