Inrange rifle is not the end all be all. For your first rifle dont build it buy it. Save up buy from a good company and do your homework. then build one. Just my opinon. Until you actually fee the way they shoot you wont know what to buy parts wise for what you want to do.

I stumbled upon this when Haenal was denied the contract for the German military. It makes sense why I can't find a 816 A2 only the 814 A2 which sucks.
The lowers look really nice. I guess the 814 DI are going to be carbine gas system and not mid-length. Well, that carbine gas system can be remedied with a LMT's enhanced BCG.
Why have these disappeared?? Searching for this rifle ONLY brings up the manufacturers page. Outside of that, it’s like it doesn’t exist. Shame I’d love to pick up an SBR.
To your knowledge, is there any relation between the Caracal 816 & the Haenel MK556? It seems plausible given that both are external piston ARs, & both companies are owned by Tawazun.
@@SpartanB88the Haenel is not a copy of the 816. They are very different rifles. Haenel is almost identical to the 416 gas system. The same parent company tat owns Caracal also own Haenel.
Saudi Arabia has MIC which manufacture licensed HK firearms like mp5/g3/g36 ... it’s a large manufacturing complex , yet Saudi Arabia made no effort in R&D nor export sadly , but with SAMI coming in the picture we might see indigenous firearm designs from Saudi Arabia.... still I wouldn’t have my hopes up
You said the buffer is filled with tungston powder. Is the entire valume of the buffer full or, is there a void for the powder to reciprocate? I assume the latter but, I still wanted to ask.
if your interested in learning more about the ar15 check out youtube channel : forgotten weapons- Jim Sullivan one of the original designers of the ar15. he's pretty old now but he has redesigned the ar15 to shoot much better, slower cyclic rate with better control, and he does not believe in a light bolt carrier at all. and says he got rid of bolt bounce. NOW THATS IMPRESSIVE! No other designer can claim this. too bad no one has bought his new design.
Amazing rifle. Too bad you can't get one because Caracal's marketing department is shit. This rifle is nowhere to be found ANYWHERE. After more than a dozen calls/emails to Caracl over the past several months with zero replies I'm sorry to say this company is a complete joke in spite of this rifle. I've given up trying to acquire this rifle. Maybe someday in the next decade they will actually have these available for sale somewhere/anywhere. Even their lame pistols are nowhere to be found.

I'm a bit late, but why is that Quench-Polish-Quench porcess would be mutually exclusive with Cold Hammer-Forging a barell? Sort of impled at about 15 min mark. Was that supposed to mean CHF+chrome lining was replaced by something else+QPQ?). I'm not asking for a full-blown answer, just maybe a keyword or two - something to start searching around. Or maybe I misunderstood?
Chris misspoke. Unfortunately, I’m not sure what his point was since QPQ has nothing to do with hammer forging. I don’t know if he’s saying that button rifling is as good as hammer forged(it isn’t for a hard use gun), or that QPQ is as good as chrome lined(it isn’t). If Caracal is telling him that, then they are FOS! I’m not aware of ANY military gun using QPQ. It’s certainly cheaper and much less environmentally bad, so you would think military guns would go that way, but they are not. The only advantage is that a really good button rifled, QPQ barrel should be more accurate. But for military use, I doubt the accuracy advantage would offset the reduced durability.

I'm curious what the entire reliability tests required. Certainly covering it in sugar sand with no lube isn't all it was tested with, correct? I'd be interested to see everything this rifle was "tortured" with as I'm very interested in buying one. Cold, heat, sand, moisture ect.

Its just funny to me. You just see AR after AR after AR and it gets old. Unlike America gun companies that stick with legacy designs, keep updating and not design new weapons. Look at the xm9 program. Not a single American made pistol completed the trials. Only an Italian and German guns finished. In Defense guns, the only American made guns sold are AR derivative. New designs are what’s made overseas. It’s an interesting market. Also see who is winning contracts. Eye opening.

I own a Sig516 and a Caracal 816A2.....the Caracal is superior in fit and finish. It's arguably the World's best AR15.

Outside of the slightly raised rail/upper height...everything else is pretty much a carbon copy of the Sig 516 Gen2, which has been a great setup.

The only difference I see between this and the 516 is some contouring on the gas system. I assume this is to cut down on friction.

I've only managed to find their 814 direct inpingment AR's.
