I would stay with the air box for sure...I have tried vm 36 as well as a flat slide,,,They work well but ..not at low rpm unless you are bored beyond stock ..It seems that xt needs the 32 0r maybe 34mm to start well and Idle smooth..and the box seems to make things smoother..I have several xt and sr500s So I have been down the same road...

May need to search for a decent stock carb and call it good..

My choice to keep it simple would be to find a standard vm32 xt carb or a vm34 tt carb, these are standard carbs that you can use the airbox. You neex to look for a 1T1 or 1T2 carb.

Found a 1T1 and ordered it.. we will see how good it is when it arrives. Mine is a 1T2…. I am curious what is the same or different between the two. Hopefully I can build one good carb out of the two I will have but I am not sure of their similarities in parts..

Hi Chris, the 1t1 is a TT500 carb so the outlet I'd is larger and 34mm whereas the 1t2 is a 32mm carb. It should pull better than the 32mm carb.

Sorry for late response😂 did you try the Mikuni TM36-68. Been considering it for my 76 to replace stock as I am fighting her to not run rich, just bored motor .5mm over. She has 220 main and 37.5 pilot. Maybe try going back to stock settings

Tear it apart and clean it and THEN decide. A lot of times they aren’t as bad as they seem.

These 5min. videos are pointless. If u have only a question to ask, use a forum.

The reason CK did a VERY short video asking for help was so people could see the state of the carburetor. And thus give a better opinion on what to do. I do not find this video pointless at all.

@@gregjackson2718 i see, its just...videos should contain more answers than questions. I think the same about newspapers and media in general. call me oldfashioned.
