    Really love this video. No bias crap whatsoever. We have both. A 7.3 in an F-250 and a 12 valve in a Crew Cab F-250 and we love both. Most of my friends that have the Cummins love the engine but the rest of their truck have fallen apart, so your video is pretty spot on.

    Another consideration is finding a good 12v vs a 7.3. Since the 12v cummins are so much easier and cheaper to mod, more of them are going to be used and abused. I found a 1999 7.3 with 240,000 miles and the motor was 100% unmolested. The only real issue was the rocker panels and the cross member support for the bed was pretty rusted, but rocker panels and bed supports are very inexpesive.

    I think you did a great job being un-biased, like you said it really comes down to personal preference and what you know! I do want to add that the VC gaskets for the 7.3L can be reused unless the wiring in them is shot. This maybe different on an OBS 7.3L like the current give away, then the later SD 7.3L's. Like you said as well, if you keep up with maintenance and don't beat on them. both these engines will outlast the frame and body! Currently have 436,587 miles on my 99 7.3L SD.

    I've had my 96 Dodge with a manual 5 speed since 99 it's still a good running truck I had to put a track bar in mine to eliminate the death wobble. And I had to replace the driver's door. And I put a straight pipe on it a few years ago and the fuel was turned up on it which in turn make the clutch slip so I had to have that replaced. The only thing I've done to the engine is get the killer dowel pins issue fixed. And just regular maintenance but this truck pulls all my heavy loads like my bulldozer my back hoe etc. And all my friends that had their 7.3s got rid of theirs years ago and I'm still driving my Dodge. I don't know any details on why they don't have their Fords anymore I just know I'm still driving my Dodge!

    I have one of each. I like them both. They are both different. The 12 valve has much more power potential as can be cheaper to an extent. The navistar will cost more to get more power. In stock form the navistar pulls as hard as the 12 valve. They both have shortfalls. The Cummins has the dowel pin issue in the timing case. The navistar has the oil cooler issue.it also can have cavitation in the coolant passages of the block. Both are a pain to fix.

      Also in later 7.3's (2001.5 I believe they switched), the PMR's instead of Forged Rods. Meaning you can really only push 450hp, before your rods decide to take a trip to the moon. Forged Rods you could push 500-600hp safely.

Ford truck itself is better than the dodge. better trans. The reason people don't do a 7.3 into a Dodge?....why put a great engine into a crap truck?.The 12V goes into a Ford,because its a better all around truck.ill put this awesome 12V in a great truck,thats comfortable and tows better.You Ram/GM fanboys are lucky that Ford didn't do a Cummins in a Ford F-250/350.

    Overall Ford is the more reliable truck, but Cummins made an absolute masterpiece of a diesel! If only all engines were that reliable and easy to work on.

    Your math is bit off on the Cummins for injectors. It’s not 500 bucks. 200 an injector x 6 = 1200 bucks.

    I’m not sure what it is but from my experience I’ve seen way more extremely high mile 7.3s then 12 valves I had a guy come up to me in my 7.3 this week and he told me about his 1 million mile original motor 7.3 and I have had 3 buddies with 400k 7.3s my brothers got 370k on his my friends dad had one with 600k and I’ve just never seen that with their Cummins’s

    • @GMbowtie350
      @GMbowtie350 ปีที่แล้ว

      You must not ever be around a Cummins then. You can take a Cummins truck and abuse it, pull, heavy loads, and not change the oil for 30K miles at a time and they’ll still hit a minimum of 400K miles. I hotshot all over the country and drive nothing but Dodges. How many 7.3 trucks you still see pulling loads coast to coast? I don’t see many at all, if any. You still see people working 2nd gen and 3rd gen Dodges regularly. 7.3 isn’t a bad motor but when it breaks down on the side of the road there’s not a whole lot you can do besides call a tow truck. You could pull the head of a 12V on the side of the road if you wanted to. I’ve tried working with 7.3 trucks. There’s just too many nitpicky, stupid problems with them. Cam sensors that constantly go bad, fuel filter bowls that crack and fill the valley of the motor with diesel fuel causing just a continuous stream of fuel leaking, glow plug issues that once bad enough the truck won’t even crank in 60 degree weather without plugging it in. It’s not worth the headache.

    Money no object, i would have a Ford truck, as much as I don't like Ford ( inherited bias ) fact that can't be argues, Ford has a better truck, but there is no argue that nothing will ever beat a 12 valve. It's simple, mechanical, and as a matter of physics, the inline motor can not be beat. So Ford crew long bed truck with a 12 valve and a built NV 5600 and a n NP 205, old gm Dana 60 king pin front, and a Dana 80 rear...
