I always add music and sound effects in my head while I'm reading. I didn't realize other people didn't do that lol. Every time the title page came up I would hear some scary bass toned music and it'd give me shivers. The book has a lot of spine tingling moments
As a kid, I spent some time at my family's farm and our barn always freaked me out at night. I guess my fear was justified after all.
Yep, we all grew up in small towns where every other house had a giant old barn like this.

Speaking of Lemire and Sorrentino working together I'd recommend their Green Arrow run. It's in the N52 so it is a very different direction than what we are used to when talking about Green Arrow but it is great stuff, very creative and it's another of those instances where Sorrentino's art is absolutely stunning
That was the first run i picked back up that got me reading comics again

Great video! I LOVED Gideon Falls. Sorrentino did A few volumes of I Vampire for DC during the New 52 era.
Yea that I vampire stuff was pretty good especially when Constantine shows up. I think Lemire wrote that as well or I could be wrong.
I've heard I, Vampire was good. Was that Fialkov who wrote it? I remember the Justice League Dark series crossed over with it early in it's run, which made almost no sense if you're only reading JLD... always wanted to check it out to get the other half of the story.
@@ImperiusRex You’re definitely right. Lemire was writing JLD and I was reading both books simultaneously. I remember almost nothing about it except that I really liked it in 2012 though I wasn’t a big fan of the JLD stuff.
@@chriscueva1866 Yeah, I thought Lemire really phoned in the JLD work. Milligan's first volume was much better imo

Gideon Falls was a clear nod to the Dark Tower novels by Stephen King. The alternative reality hoping around, the central point of the universe being a black barn collapsing in on itself (aka The Dark Tower), and the fact that it needed the chosen group of people to reach it (aka the ‘’kat-tet’’). Even one of the characters in the TPB Vol. 5 (i believe) says the famous line from the 1st novel of the DT series: ‘’There are other worlds than this’’.
So considering all this, it might have killed it a bit for me. It started out strong, but it ended paying homage to another story more than anything. The art was phenomenal throughout tho. If you are not into novels, Marvel adapted stories from the Dark Tower series drawn by Jae Lee. Also gorgeous to look at.
Whoa- somehow I didn’t pick up on that at all! And I just read the whole Dark Tower series a couple years back! Now it seems so obvious!
I really liked that it was a homage to dark tower lol and I wish they would re release those dark tower comics, I loved the hell out of those and jae lee's artwork
25:13 thankfully they’re is going to be a deluxe edition for Gideon Falls from ch. 1-16 this September and I can’t wait to get it
Oh man... that hardcover looks beautiful... am I rebuying this, knowing full well the artwork is going to be lost to the bleed?
@@ImperiusRex Do you 100% know this will be the case? Has there been this issue with other tpb that are turned into a deluxe that have full page spreads that suffer from this issue? Maybe they will do something about it because of all the full page artwork etc.
I was reading this in singles and really enjoyed it until the late teens/early 20s, when it went deep into the dimension hopping and that monthly gap kind of killed the story for me. Waiting for the deluxe hardcover to eventually come out and re-read, which I definitely think will be a much better way of reading and enjoying. You should check out Kickstarter, Eric Powell just started crowdfunding a Ed Gein hardcover graphic novel which looks really good.
I've been seeing that Gein book pop up and it totally piqued my interest. I'll have to give it a closer look.

I loved Lemire's three-volume Moon Knight run. Gideon Falls was indeed very different from what I expected (sci-fi, rather than the horror I hoped for), but it was well-made.
Been meaning to pick up this book for a while, but kept putting it off.
In regards to the comic - never read this but the art looks spectacular. Weirdly reminds me of Criminal crossed over with Something Is Killing The Children
Though the Criminal notice might be because those colors look spectacular
Something is Killing the Children was really great. I'm a big fan of Tynion's horror work.

I've only read the first trade, and just as Neil said - it didn't really blow me away off the bat. I plan on eventually rounding out the entire series.

I've been dying to do Fatale for a while. You'll notice it's in our opening theme song. I read about half of Kill or be Killed and dug that too... and Fade Out has been calling to me for a while too...

wait how is animal man like the wrestler at all?? havent watched the movie or read the comic in a bit but i really dont remember much in common
In the comic they make a movie about Animal Man, presented as a washed up, down on his luck hero- intentionally mirroring the Wrestler film. It is even directed by “RYAN DARANOVSKY” which is a play on Daron Aronofsky, who directed The Wrestler.
Read horror to dark ambient stuff like the. Cryo Chamber TH-cam channel and comic horror is very effective. You guys like NIN I know so it should be an easy fit if you love the weird instrumental tracks he does
