Like he said, it depends on the character. It also depends on your opponent, as it's not true, but it's close. If you want to practice it, I'd recommend picking Joker and doing F-air 1 > F-air 1 > grab > U-throw > (Dragdown) U-air. Repeat until your opponent reaches a percent where U-throw no longer consistently strings into U-air, in which case you'll want to switch to D-throw, and jump forward slightly before performing the U-air. Of course, this is just for practice, so that you can see for yourself how long it works, and on what characters.
This method is actually horrible for Joker. First, I’ll highly recommend doing up-air manually than buffering or using this C-stick method. It’s better learn the timing because you’ll do it consistently and get the most damage compared to this method. I’ll recommend fast falling in the 3rd hit of the dragdown (the hit before the last one) but you can also fast fall it earlier. Basically, learn everything manually and don’t use shortcuts lmao. The only thing I’ll recommend learning for Joker with the tech of SSBU is back-air canceling.
Itz Vic yeah but if do a multi hit on the up air it doesn’t allow you to fast fall. It require more then just holding down on left stick when you want to fast fall
I'm new to ssbu I'm learning fast but when I do quick jump into fair then quick fall he falls to far back for the grab.you do amazing content I've learned more from your channel than any other, keep up the good work!
Imo I think it's better to just rising up air instead of this so that it is true. You can do that 3 times on most characters, and then you can do down throw up air drag downs. Then when u can't do that you can do down throw bair
I just macro buffer short hop up air and then time the drag down to get the regrab. Also after like three loops u should do d throw forward moving up air and then fast fall u can get more damage that way.
Hi, thanks for this video and for the others ! I don't know if it's a good place to ask for it but, you would have some tips for doing short hop with the Z button? I feel like it's really much harder than with the x button,
@@MidGrashlolz I have shield on L and grab on R - u can switch those buttons of course. It takes a few hours to get used to it. But now it's working fine for me.
Alright so I didn't start taking Smash seriously until Sm4sh came out. I mained Sheik in Sm4sh and was quite good with her. My controller set up was default just not tap jumps, and no B+A Smash attacks. I was consist with her combos and fair strings. When Smash Ultimate was released and I saw and felt she simply just wasn't the same as she was in Sm4sh (needing more effort than before to get a kill). So I picked up Pichu and Fox through out my experiences with smash and playing it competitively I never used the C-stick cause I easily do smash attacks manual with the A-button. But in Ultimate I have found that smash attacks appear more often than I like or how I felt in Sm4sh, in which that easily can be fixed by changing the sensitivity which indeed helped. But I still haven't used the C-stick even doing Pichu Bair loops I do them without the C-stick. As for Joker which I also plan on picking up and possibly main I can see how dragging down UpAir can be difficult to get consistently without the C-stick though I have got the timing down doing it manually with the left analog. As for Jokers Fair 1 I can't perform that manually as I short hop by pressing A+Y since short hopping has become a bit difficult with the 3 frames to let go of the jump button to perform a short hop compared to how it was in Sm4sh. Though oddly enough I can perform the short hop fair 1 by doing it with the C-stick. So because of this and for the consistency I plan and using the C-stick more but it currently just feels odd since I jump with Y because I grab with Z and shield with my L and R in my gamecube controller. If anyone has any tips in explaining or making it more comfortable for me to use the C-stick with my current layout please do share. I don't want to change the Z bumper/trigger or the L or R triggers either so I know it's possibly just timing with such things since I am just to focused on holding down the left analog to do the the fast fall Aerials that it's making it difficult for me to perform the Grab > Up Throw > UpAir - Fast Fall Combos/Shenanigans and continue on to reach the end of the combo as of finishing with using his hook to either UpAir or Fair and so on. Thank You
The controllers have very similar buttons, the 2 gray buttons are jumps, the triggers are grab and shield, and the c-stick (yellow joystick) is the same as the right on a pro controller
I’ve been practicing this a lot with joker. I used to do the drag down combos all manually and I’ll admit this is a lot easier to get the drag down with c stick. However when I want to do down throw into drag down up air with joker, it can be really hard to hit the up air with this c stick technique I can barely manage to get it consistent only at around 35%. However when I do this technique manually it’s fairly easy to hit the up air as early as 20% but the drag down is inconsistent. I don’t know what to do. There’s a tight window I can land this with the c stick method but the drag downs are so easy. However with the manual method I can easily get the up air but I miss the drag downs frequently
Necrobump. Hello friend, I hope smash is treating you well and you've by now mastered this (I'm just now learning about it as a 1.5 year Falco player.. sad). Just in case you still struggle with this, it seems from this that you were trying to do what he said in the vid and throw using the c-stick. If you're trying to d-throw→u-air, you might as well throw with the control stick and just keep it held down, and input u-air from your neutral c-stick. This should make it more consistent as you don't have to move the c-stick as far trying to get the jump timing, and you have the sticks set for the fpff :) Happy smashing
I just discovered that you can fastfall a down air if you, not 100% how i did it, but i held down on the left stick, then pressed both grab and attack, then right after i tilted the right stick up or sideways and it did the fastfall down air
This doesn't work for me at all. Holding down on the left stick and pressing jump does not initiate a fast fall. Am I doing something wrong? Or is this method no longer possible because of an update?
Hey this is great video btw thank you, but I was wondering to do you input buffer the jump after you throw him up or do you just try to jump as fast as possible after?
this isn't really optimal, since the best way to get the most damage and still extend with dragdowns is fastfalling around the 3rd hit, so three hits are used instead of just the one, giving a wider hitstun window for follow-ups and around 3-4% more damage
Shouldn't you hit your opponent with atleast 2-3 hits of the up air? I thought 1 hit wasn't enough in real game situations because they DI out of it quicker
I find when I throw the opponent up if I'm holding the left stick down it registers as a spot dodge. Am I doing something wrong? Plz help. Thank you for the video
Release the grab button as soon as you grab your opponent, since if you hold it down after the throw if will register as a spot dodge since the grab button also doubles as a shield button after the initial grab.
Thanks for the video! I still feel like its more optimal to time the dduairs just so you can get more hits in. But this seems like an easy way for anyone to get his dragdowns going!

They can’t DI the first one if you are quick enough. Any thing after the first drag down is going to be rough. A grab after the first drag down is occasionally possible if they don’t DI too much and you’re quick. I’m still learning but i had a buddy come over and spam air dodge and there’s definitely a tight timing for this stuff to be true
Best bet is to set one of your right bumpers up jump so you can pinch x, or y with the shoulder button to do the drag drag down. And the c stick will work as smash or tilt stick
i was using it when i did it in real time, I used Y and Z to get the auto short hop, just for the example at the beginning i used Y only just to show it a bit better,
if you wanted to a true double stick set up then yes you could use only a shoulder for jump but you may accidentally full hop, doing it like this just made sure i didnt make mistake tbh,
So basically C stick inputs are translated by the system into an input of a direction and the a button. This is called a macro. While holding down, if you press the C stick in a direction other than down, the directional input of the C stick will interrupt the analog stick down input for a single frame, giving you an aerial. The down input of the analog stick comes back a frame later, and your character fastfalls. The most important use of this tech is actually to ensure consistent fastfalls on multihit moves that have connected, because for some reason, this game does not allow you to fastfall while one of your moves is connecting to an opponent, forcing you to fastfall in between the multihits. The easiest way to do this is to hold down on the control stick and proceed to mash the c stick in a direction other than down, likely whatever direction you used to input the aerial (probably up since drag down uairs are common).
@@whaloob you are correct about all except 1 thing, this tech has uses outside of multi hit aerials. The best examples of this are Mario & ZSS with their up air juggles.
