This is a great car, I don't think it can match Audi, BMW or Mercedes but it's close and I understand why wold people buy it, because it's different, it's not mainstream and showoff, it just does its own business elegantly.
If you want something that's different get an Alfa Romeo Giulia, which is better than the Arteon.

vw unfortunately don’t produce an Arteon R. what you saw was the R-Line, which is the top-spec version of the Arteon. not any faster though, although a true VW Arteon R is not yet a thing, i sure hope it is someday.

@@santiagocalderon3261 indeed so, slightly underpowered though. i would’ve preferred a brand new 5/6 cylinder engine for use in the Arteon R, or perhaps even the Touraeg R’s hybrid powertrain would’ve been more cost effective, whilst still being faster than the measly 300hp that the golf engine provides.
I like this car so much that I went out and bought it, in white; I black wrapped the back part of the roof so it’s all gloss black. I’ve tuned it to 335HP, it’s fitted with 20” standard turbine wheels already so next for me is black mirror caps,. Nothing else to do as in Australia the car is literally fully loaded with every possible extra in R Line trim only. I’ve owned three Audi’s (A4, TT, Q5) plus two BMW’s (5 series and 4 series) and the Arteon is better than both, it’s also quicker and more luxurious. I’m getting 0-60 in around 4.8seconds too.
How did the tune hold up?
I really like VWs new design language, even on their new cargo/passenger vans. Rumours have it that the Arteon R will have a VR6 engine. Who wouldn't fancy a growly 6 cylinder lol.

Crncug I did read a lot about it and it‘s very likely to happen. In the US they brought back the VR6 in the Passat.

Owning an Arteon fulfilled a lot of my desires as a first car, I'm thankful for having the opportunity to drive such a luxurious car. And the drive is completely on a different level. Due to unforseen circumstances I no longer posses such a beautiful car. Thank you. My appreciation is on a whole new level.

VW really needs to do something about that steering wheel design... its literally the same wheel as in the VW UP!... just give this and the passat something more luxury looking.
it's also the same one on the new Touareg which is much more expensive than the Arteon :( but the Touareg looks great anyway

It’s the same across the polo, golf etc it’s very good and nice but they should vary them slightly. The high performance golf cars have nice ones with different designs
Actually it goes even further than that. The steering wheel is exactly the same as in all the Skoda models, only the badge is different.
Beautiful car and great job by VW on it. Have to see what the pricing in the US winds up coming out to. If it starts at 38000 in the UK, then optioned out, it'll probably be the same price as an A5 sportback fully loaded, which at that point you have to wonder why you'd get this. Still awesome though. This might actually be the better looking car.

On Car Throttle, I heard that VW might be working on a 400 hp VR6 powered R version of this car, but the article also said that it would be unlikely to be sold in the UK due to “a variety of reasons.”

Yudha Bagaskara No it’s not. Stinger is proper front engine, rear wheel drive/all wheel drive not this blingy Passat pile with its engine mounted sideways and a front-biased awd system

Yes you ae right...I went to VW show room and saw it from inside looks like Passat and materials in some areas I didn't like it compared with price. But Engine and it's economy for petrol consumption compared with it's powerful I think they succeed with this point and failed in cabinet material choosing and design.

The looks make up for every Single fault this car has. It just looks absolutely amazing. Also I think the interior design is really nice, it reminds me a bit of the Mercedes s class.

I remember sitting down in one about a month ago in a VW dealership and thinking that it's cool until I realised that it's a Passat on the inside. I have no idea where VW is going with this, but Arteon and T-Roc are so damn overpriced. I swear that 10 year old cars had less plastics in the interior.
Adam K The interior is so bland and pathetic. I was expecting more from such a cool exterior. Hard plastic everywhere and no clever storage.

That is what the previous CC was. Basically, just a 'sexed up' body Passat Coupe.
Vw almost managed to draw me in with the T-Roc as a family car. Until I realised that although the base model is not too badly priced, any form of improvement or things you will want and you come up to Tiguan money. Needs to be cheaper to actually have a place in the line.
Those 10 year old cars also have the Arteon's engine size and horsepower, right?

Loving my 2.0TFSI Elegance. Have been running for 4 months, can't fault it. Highly recommended. yes the A5 looks more special inside but is not as big and more expensive.

My family has had the Arteon r-design 240 hp diesel for about a month now . It's a great car i tell you. We are so happy with it. Sleek but still spacious and real eye catcher!

My statement may be a strong one but I stand by it and I don't mind that other people like the fake exhaust pipes. The thing is that I really really dislike dishonest/fake things. That's why I prefer textile seats to fake leather ones, a real tiny and ugly exhaust pipe to shiny, big, sporty fake ones... and that's just my opinion. Moreover, it seems that there are more people like you than me, otherwise we wouldn't see this on that many cars.

interior looks 1:1 like the superb 3's. that's where VW went wrong with the Arteon imo: they're trying to get in on premium sales, but once you sit inside the car it looks very much like a generic Passat or Skoda - which they are fine cars with practical interiors, but certainly not luxurious or special by any means.
But it's fast and looks cool
@@dragospahontu the Arteon has the Passat engine, LOL. that's precisely why it's such a dud really. paying a premium price for a ever so slightly more extravagant exterior, but otherwise no improvement over the Passat or Superb.

Espen its not based on a vw the original commenter meant that audi belongs to vw so they make themself competition. thats half way right. if u then see that audi uses the mlb platform for all cars from a4 to a8 and this platform uses alot of parts from the mqb then yes i can understand the original commenters intention
I know, my point is that people tend to say that Audis are just expensive VWs (which is kinda true to some degree for a1, a3, tt and most of their crossovers) but a4 and up have different platforms, more engine options, completely different 4wd system and longitudinal instead of transversly mounted engines.
Espen well like i said the mlb platform wich is used for the a4/a5/q5/a6/a7/a8 with the longitudal engine (thats what the l in mlb stands for) still uses many parts from the mqb platform ( the one with the horizontal engine). so maybe u drive an a6 but there will still be electronics, shocks or brakes ised from a vw golf for example. for the normal customer this might be completely irrelevant but an informed customer might be not so pleasently surprised if u tell him his a8 uses the same platform as an a4, uses almost the same engine range as an a6 with same transmissions that are in an vw arteon as well with brake calippers from a passat. just an example but u get the idea

The more I hear and see about the new cars of today, the more I appreciate owning and driving my 1965, 1986, and 2008 American Ford 4 door behemoths of Detroit ingenuity. No fancy bells and whistles to break, no large screens on the dash to go blank in a few years, and all cheap to maintain and insure. That being said, I really enjoy your videos about these newfangled cars!

Don't like it. Every time I see one in the wild all I think is somebody paid a lot for slightly nicer looking Passat. Remember Phaeton? Now *that* was a posh volkswagen done well.
Leuff it was a disaster overall though. Go have a look on TH-cam for any more than a few years ago.

Eh some people might consider this style over the A5. I don't, but someone will.
Jack 1, I’d rather go for this over the A5. Why? Because of these reasons:
1. I like this exterior design AND interior layout more than the A5.
2. The Audi A5 is too mainstream here in Melbourne, I haven’t yet seen 1 Arteon though.

Death Of Cricket You don’t care at all about the fact A5 is on a far superior platform than Arteon with far more sophisticated suspension geometry and the engine mounted the correct way around?
Audi a5 is less practical, its a cramped sporty car, rear leg room isnt that great, and options for audi are waaaay pricier while this gets alot as just standard. Main purpose for this car will be families and businessmen who like sporty coupeish style in a lower price segment but dont want to sacrifice practicality. This car inside is maybe even big as the A7, but is half the price. Everything about this car is great, it offers everything better than its competitors.. but ofcourse lets be honest it could be a spaceship for that money and it wont deny the fact that its a VW and not an audi. So each to their own, i guess time will show if it will find its customers.
Matt try openig the rear doors to drop the rear seats instaead og getting in the bootand any screen will foul with greasy fingers on any car fitted with this device
