This is in my opinion probably the most beautiful VW that has been produced. A shame that it only comes with a 2 liter and 4 cyl engine. If it would have a V6 engine as an option, it would be really interesting.

Owner of a "normal" (Diesel) R-Line Arteon SB here. This car is a perfect conversation starter. Nobody knows what it is and asks what this sexy VW is all about. I've seen only a handful on the street since I got it in late December, so I don't drown in the masses of grey Passats. I've got thumbs up from "normal" Arteon drivers, even a GTI driver smiled and nodded at me. And it is a practical family car, virtually the same as the Passat sizewise (even a bit more rear legroom than the Passat due to the longer wheelbase). The interior may be a bit dull compared to the iPads on wheels nowadays, but it is sleek, clean and quite stylish. My kids love the lit doorpanels, they look gorgeous at night :)
I wish this had the 2.5 5cyl engine. That would been been epic. These looks and that engine! Or simply, the VAG group should have an estate with the 5cyl rather than just the RS3 and TT-RS.

Drove one of these at a press event recently. Taken on its own merits I thought it was pretty good, even if the steering wheel touch pad controls are monumentally annoying. Taken in its wider context, though, it felt a bit thin. All it's direct rivals have a 6 cylinder engine and a four just can't match the sound and mid-range surge.

Pretty sure I can. Design wise it’s just a boring Passat with some plastic surgery and lipstick! Side profile looks like a Leon ST, especially towards the rear, and face is all droopy.

Love my Arteon. BiTDi 4 Motion. Huge, nice drive, decent turn of speed, doesnt have a drinking problem. The DCC is great you can change it from being a big wallowing barge to reasonably nimble and stiff

@@senoow4215 I can only speak for the MK7 version of the Golf R and yes it certainly feels like a much more pleasant cabin. I have yet to sit in a MK8 though I've mostly heard its actually worse then the MK7s of the same model.

Arteon R shooting brake vs. Golf R Estate would be interesting, cause I'm pretty sure the golf would win due to less weight. Also I wish the Arteon R and like Passat R could have the 2.5 I5 from Audi RS3, but apparently not.

Vw made the arteon with less cylinders in order to have low fuel consumption in daily use and sporty when you need it and combining that with practicality and sexy looks i think its the ultimate all arounder but it a shame a lot people dont buy it because they want a car with more "premium" badge like bmw mercedes audi etc.

I love how German car manufacturers actually do the times they promise. With American cars you can drive downhill with tailwind in best weather conditions and don't make the promised time. With a German car you go uphill during rain and still beat the manufacturers time by 1/10 of a second

Yes, this would be a great replacement for my Golf R. Slightly larger and more grown up. As would the Tiguan R. Sadly, in Canada we don’t appear to be able to get either. The Golf R was my first Volkswagen, it may be my last if the brand doesn’t want to bring more of their good stuff here.

I miss the R36, when volkswagens were cool. It had a 3.6 VR6 310bhp 4motion. Back then in 2007 I managed to convince my dad to get the step down which was the same 255bhp 3.2 from the golf R32. And he still dailies it to this day.

As a BMW fanboy I'd rather have this arteon than a m340i, this thing is bloody gorgeous! And with a 600€ stage 1 tune you have a 400hp arteon. Though I think this car needs a bigger engine. The negative points that people bring about this car are just them nitpicking.

The BMW may be a 3L 6cylinder car But the Arteon is only 15hp and 50nm less on numbers and being downsized, it’s lighter, so should feel more nimble and equally quick and good on fuel as well. However, smaller engine more power serious long term issues.

Honestly its one of the best looking cars, without any fake, quirky and over engineered dets. But what do I know, I drive a golf 7 estate R as a daily. Loved VW design since their round 2013 dominance in the WRC and the legendary Polo WRC.
It is quite a cool car, but when you drive it, you just can't stop thinking about the fact it was already developed with the V6 turbo (eventually used only in some Chinese VWs) and they finally put only 2 liter in it and made it something like Golf R XL. Not bad, but I won't take it over any V/R6 competitor, it is just a shame it does not have the originally intended engine.

I own a Passat 2.0TSI 2015MY and I consider the Arteon R as his cousin. My only objections are the sensor buttons on the steering wheel, lack of railings on the roof and of course the price is bit too much (more than 50k EUR in BG, for brand new). Otherwise this car is the perfect allrounder looks cool, his engine is very efficient, low fuel consumption, accelerates quite harmonically, the turbo lag is not very present, lots of space, the luggage space could be better of course
Original engine was 2.5L VR6 turbo making 300 bhp and 370 lb tq, that is only used in China, car wouldn’t cost vw more then 2.0 t since the price of new long block vr6 2.5 is $8k and 2.0t is around $10k. I’m pretty sure using more powerful vr6 would double the sale on those cars. Here in USA they don’t sell really good and the only reason is because they are underpowered. People don’t mind paying $50k for a car but with 300hp you can get Toyota Camry.
Volkswagen had such a great opportunity to make this Arteon R shooting Brake a great car. To me this looking like VW tried to bring back the Passat R36. IF VW Put the 3.6L VR6 in this car I like you mentioned, think it would have been a way better car! If they were concerned about emissions well put the 2.5 VR6 Turbo engine from China in this car. It would make the same power and just sound 1000 times better, the engine is 100% interchangeable on VW MQB platform so it would have been such an easy swap. I may be old school when I say this but the new "R" cars really don't have anything special about them. Back in the day the R cars got completely different engines trim and interior that enthusiast couldn't stop talking about. Just looking at the R32! Its sill one of VW most sought after modern enthusiast cars today. I do love the styling of the Arteon R shooting Brake, I feel like it fits the traditional "R" package, but the engine choice just falls flat for me. To be an R I feel the heart of the car needs to be aggressive and not just the same old tuned 2.0 inline 4 banger you get in very VW. You need some spice and grunt behind it. IDK that's just my thought. Good try VW maybe try to be more creative with your engine selection next time. If there will even be an engine next time... it will probably be all electric. :(
The S4 black edition avant with comfort and sound pack is around £52,200 with more BHP, practicality, better build quality and more every day usability thanks to the diesel engine. I wouldn't bother even considering this when the M340i offers a more powerful & better sounding engine with better handling and the S4 provides better practicality and lower running costs. However, out of the three, the Arteon is stunning to look at.
I think only Negative aspect it the price otherwise it beats the BMW (in my option) all the way but that unique design is stunning. I’ve the R Line, 2018, and it’s my Dream car. Next is the Arteon R!

I love how German car manufacturers actually do the times they promise. With American cars you can drive downhill with tailwind in best weather conditions and don't make the promised time. With a German car you go uphill during rain and still beat the manufacturers time by 1/10 of a second

Yes, this would be a great replacement for my Golf R. Slightly larger and more grown up. As would the Tiguan R. Sadly, in Canada we don’t appear to be able to get either. The Golf R was my first Volkswagen, it may be my last if the brand doesn’t want to bring more of their good stuff here.

I miss the R36, when volkswagens were cool.
It had a 3.6 VR6 310bhp 4motion. Back then in 2007 I managed to convince my dad to get the step down which was the same 255bhp 3.2 from the golf R32. And he still dailies it to this day.
I still have 2012 3.6 VR6 300hp in CC (arteon predecessor) and its driving orchester.

As a BMW fanboy I'd rather have this arteon than a m340i, this thing is bloody gorgeous! And with a 600€ stage 1 tune you have a 400hp arteon. Though I think this car needs a bigger engine.

Honestly its one of the best looking cars, without any fake, quirky and over engineered dets. But what do I know, I drive a golf 7 estate R as a daily. Loved VW design since their round 2013 dominance in the WRC and the legendary Polo WRC.
It is quite a cool car, but when you drive it, you just can't stop thinking about the fact it was already developed with the V6 turbo (eventually used only in some Chinese VWs) and they finally put only 2 liter in it and made it something like Golf R XL. Not bad, but I won't take it over any V/R6 competitor, it is just a shame it does not have the originally intended engine.

It looks SICK. Only modification I would do is adding wider arches (Wide Body) and good wheel fitment and this car would turn some heads.
I own a Passat 2.0TSI 2015MY and I consider the Arteon R as his cousin. My only objections are the sensor buttons on the steering wheel, lack of railings on the roof and of course the price is bit too much (more than 50k EUR in BG, for brand new). Otherwise this car is the perfect allrounder looks cool, his engine is very efficient, low fuel consumption, accelerates quite harmonically, the turbo lag is not very present, lots of space, the luggage space could be better of course
Original engine was 2.5L VR6 turbo making 300 bhp and 370 lb tq, that is only used in China, car wouldn’t cost vw more then 2.0 t since the price of new long block vr6 2.5 is $8k and 2.0t is around $10k. I’m pretty sure using more powerful vr6 would double the sale on those cars. Here in USA they don’t sell really good and the only reason is because they are underpowered. People don’t mind paying $50k for a car but with 300hp you can get Toyota Camry.
It's probably not for sale in the U.S. but I wish it were. Bueatyful car and the color is great too!

Volkswagen had such a great opportunity to make this Arteon R shooting Brake a great car.
To me this looking like VW tried to bring back the Passat R36. IF VW Put the 3.6L VR6 in this car I like you mentioned, think it would have been a way better car! If they were concerned about emissions well put the 2.5 VR6 Turbo engine from China in this car. It would make the same power and just sound 1000 times better, the engine is 100% interchangeable on VW MQB platform so it would have been such an easy swap.
I may be old school when I say this but the new "R" cars really don't have anything special about them. Back in the day the R cars got completely different engines trim and interior that enthusiast couldn't stop talking about. Just looking at the R32! Its sill one of VW most sought after modern enthusiast cars today. I do love the styling of the Arteon R shooting Brake, I feel like it fits the traditional "R" package, but the engine choice just falls flat for me. To be an R I feel the heart of the car needs to be aggressive and not just the same old tuned 2.0 inline 4 banger you get in very VW. You need some spice and grunt behind it. IDK that's just my thought. Good try VW maybe try to be more creative with your engine selection next time. If there will even be an engine next time... it will probably be all electric. :(

Just bought one, love it.
The S4 black edition avant with comfort and sound pack is around £52,200 with more BHP, practicality, better build quality and more every day usability thanks to the diesel engine. I wouldn't bother even considering this when the M340i offers a more powerful & better sounding engine with better handling and the S4 provides better practicality and lower running costs. However, out of the three, the Arteon is stunning to look at.
Love it. The interior is much better than the Mk8 Golf R too. But probably won't pay more for this over the 340i wagon...
