  • Tesla Full Self-Driving Beta 12.1.2 gives Gali from Hyperchange a ride to San Francisco International Airport. We reattempt the famous stop sign that FSD Beta ran the last time we did a drive together.
    Highlights
    0:02 - Start of drive
0:22 - Pedestrian running on side of road
0:26 - Right turn with pedestrians crossing
2:12 - Accelerator press to avoid missing green light
2:50 - Gets stuck waiting for people to cross
    3:46 - Cable car
3:56 - Pedestrians crossing in front of car
5:03 - Start of stop sign test
5:27 - Moves right to give oncoming car more room
    6:06 - Stop sign test
8:15 - Accelerator press on steep hill
    8:51 - Another accelerator press
10:20 - Move right to give oncoming car more room
14:41 - Keeps intersection clear. Possibly a mistake?
15:32 - Busy Chinatown street right turn
    16:55 - Driving through tunnel
20:03 - Crossing Market Street alongside articulated bus
    23:21 - Entering highway
27:50 - Two smooth highway lane changes
34:49 - Entering San Francisco International Airport
37:41 - Pulling over at airport dropoff

I don’t think anyone says it’s impossible. We just say they are still 5-10 years way from actual full FSD. 3 minutes into the video, the car stopped at a green light in the middle of an intersection to let pedestrians who DIDN’t have the right of way to cross the street. Mistakes like that can NEVER happen for this to be true full FSD. Tesla, well really Musk, has unfortunately consistently over promised and under delivered.

@@raz318 - There is a reason why only one person has got this version yet. With these FSD 12.1.2 videos, the FSD Team wanted us to know how good this new approach works after only 6 months. The AI learning curve is exponential. No comparison to hardcoding progress that gets slower and slower and never meets perfection. It's up to us now to imagine how good this is going to work in the near future when Dojo has processed thousands of hours more camera recordings.

Hey Guys, that was friggin’ fantastic! You guys went from San Francisco to SFO while the car was driving! That’s mind blowing! As I said before, I can not wait until Tesla releases v12. I’m on v11 now and I let the car drive from Saratoga to Los Gatos mainly without interventions, but sometimes I have to intervene because the way the car is going conflicts with a normal route, I think. Please, Omar and Gali, tell Tesla there are lots of folks who really would like to try v12. Cheers!

Still that confused pedestrian waving his arms early in the video (2:58) gave the car a “pause”. Most drivers would have creeped forward and recognized an “odd ball” idiot.
I would like to see how it handles a an odd situation like a “confused pedestrian” holding up a stop sign in a malicious attempt to control the car.

    Thanks Omar.
It was interesting but almost not surprising to hear Galli almost souring on FSD. I think most 'bulls' who are unhappy now are going to be blown away by how quickly FSD is going to change the narrative.
I hope and expect it to go wide release in 3-4 months and approach L4 within 4-6 months from there. The world has no idea. V12 is transformational!
Thanks so much for doing these vids. I went from not watching anymore v11 vids since Elons demo drive to your v12 vids being my fav thing to watch!!! It's even better than I expected it to be (amd my expectations skyrocketed after seeing Elons demo drive last year).
V11 would never have worked IMO. You just cannot code for all the control conditions. This is the way, all the way, end to end NNs. V12.1.2 is already so good it fools you into thinking you can trust it.
I think the world will see this year that L4 and L5 are just a matter of more training.

Wow. Impressive. Can't wait to get V12 on the east coast! V11 does some annoying (and sometimes scary/dangerous) things in VA, mostly on divided highways with unprotected intersections with rural roads. I still use it, just have to be on alert to recover from phantom braking (rare, sometimes down to a near stop) and getting into a turn lane when navigation clearly shows it's supposed to be going straight (sadly common). That trip to SFO was incredible, especially the parts through the city.

Tesla should make FSD available on all vehicles and bill monthly at $0.10 per FSD mile driven. This eliminates the formidable one time purchase barrier, the high dollar monthly subscription barrier, the FSD vehicle transfer issue, and the safety criticism that drivers are allowed to use plain Autopilot on city streets. It brings FSD into the mainstream Tesla experience, drivers choosing to use FSD little, pay little, and drivers who use it a lot, pay more. Deployment as a feature for all drivers makes FSD licensing more attractive to other automakers. The per mile rate can be tweaked to balance fleet FSD use, capability, and revenue.

When FSD ran the stop sign in your previous video, isn't that a mapping error? I thought the maps included every intersection and whether that intersection had a stop sign or not. When my view of a stop sign area is occluded by parked vehicles, I assume there's a stop sign even if I can't see it, and stop anyway. At least FSD should follow its map data.

I believe Gali hit a gummy before this drive. Watching this video of v12 is making me feel really positive about FSD. Love the positive energy. Just think. It can only improve.

When the nag, or at least the steering wheel pressure requirement, is gone that will be the driver of FSD subscriptions and sales.
My mind is either in drive mode or monitor mode. Having to apply pressure takes me out of monitor mode but I'm not actually driving. FSD should just use the cabin camera for driver attention monitoring.

I prefer having one hand on the steering wheel. No nags, and I can react quicker than my conscious processes to any funny business.

@@geirmyrvagnes8718 that would be okay, if we didn't have to provide constant pressure. In normal driving I don't constantly tug at the wheel.

@@Joe_Brig Maybe I am just fat. I use my left hand on the left side of the wheel and just let the arm hang there. That seems to work for me. YMMW.

Love the idea of a virtual BossBot TM :) you could train it on big data of previous decisions, you could have several jobs with Boss Bots trained on your knowledge :)

The city streets have their own complications. However, I never see FSD 12 on the complex mid-range routes we have here in NC. Route 17 is two lanes in each directions with lights. Multiple left and right turn lanes appear and disappear. You must be in certain lanes to successfully navigate the route. This is where v11 has issues. It is very good on the highway and single lane city streets.

I think for the present / while we transition it would be good if self driving cars had some kind of sign on them. That way pedestrians/ and human drivers , would be able to better interact with them. Less confusion.

Everything looks great. I just wish it would be more assertive at stop sign. I get it has no choice but to make a full stop. But once it does, it has to go quicker.

There a lot of videos on Tesla driven with FSD version 12.1.2. But they are all driven by the same guy in the same area if I understud it right?
Is version 12.1.2 relly that bad that no one else can try it elsewhere?

u can tell the guys were way more chill when gali started scheming on the highway. night and day and sure they were a little stressed downtown. like they said time seemed to take longer with fsd til destination and no one wants that really. 1 step at a time.
