    You know FSD is improving when we've gone from running stop signs, driving in bus lanes and hard braking for no reason, to now only critiquing the safety judgements of the FSD "driver".

    • @catbert7
      @catbert7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It is still running a stop sign, breaking for no reason, trying to hit curbs, and more up here in WA. If anything, v12 has been regression, aside from the steering being smoother. But I’m glad it’s improving in CA at least.

      Getting these frequent updates is nice, but be aware, that we will most likely be around version 16-18 by the time it will reach a fully releasable 1.0 level commercial product.
      So we wil still need 12.3.7, 12.3.8, 12.3.9, then 12.4, 12.4.2, 12.4.3 ... then 12.5, 12.5.2, 12.5.3 ... then 12.6 all the way to version 13, THEN we will need 13.1.2, 13.1.3. ...then 13.2, 13.2.2, 13.2.3 .......... all the way to version 14, THEN alll the waaay to version 15, THEN all the waaaay to version 16.
      We will then be in 2026-2028, and it will clear up a little bit more if we still need version 17 and version 18 before the commercial release of a 1.0 software.
      They could start a robotaxi service next year in some towns with a hundred cars per town like Cruise or Waymo BUT OF COURSE that could only work with teleoperation, so when the cars need intervention every 10-20-30 minutes, then sy would teleoperate it. So this won't move the needle.
      What we need is a software that is ready and has level 5 capability.
      An average human experiences a fatal chrash per 100 million miles, an accident every 500 thousand miles. Tesla will need to show that they are at least 2 times better than humans, and to do that with 99% confidence level, you just have to multiply those numbers with 10.
      So they have to reach a level, where there's no intervention in 5 million miles (you can't request intervention in a level 5 car!), AND there's no fatal crash in a BILLION miles.
      They have to improve the software at the very least a HUNDRED THOUSAND times, BUT if you calculate the 5 million miles with an average speed of 40 miles/ hour, then from another point of view they should get to a level, where there is no intervention required for 125000 hours of driving. Nowadays they are at 5-30 minutes between interventions. If you use the generous 30 minute, then still they would need a 250.000 times improvement.
      So they still have an ENORMOUS CHALLENGE TO SOLVE!
      The news from China and Europe is fine, but that's just the first step in those locations.
      The final commercial 1.0 product is still 2-7 years away.
      Of course there's absolutely no assurance, that they will get there EVER.
      It may very well be the case, that they need to dream up and implement some kind of cognitive modell that sits above this version of the software that just learns from videos.
      Nobody knows.
      They will need an ungodly amount of luck (and data and compute etc.).

      @@mrthegrievous How do you know all of this? It sounds like you either have inside info from the Tesla FSD team or you are just guessing. There isn't enough history to predict how many SW rolls there will be or how fast they will come. The changes from V11 to the latest V12 are way faster than I expected.

    I did a test drive of a standard Model S today and it had fsd 12.3.4. I was so impressed with how good it actually drives. You really do have to feel it while you are in the drivers seat. I used to be a Tesla disbeliever. This video in addition to 10s of other recent videos I've watched convinced me Tesla might be ahead of the game more than many realize. I had the opportunity to try Mercedes Drive Pilot this weekend and I had to disengage so much. The restrictions for where L3 will actually work was a joke. Basically just say it barely works anywhere.

    I had a thought when you said about speeding up to catch that green and people would get a bit annoyed that their ride is taking a a bit longer. I don't think they'd notice in a fully Autonomous Cyber Cab. There'd be no steering wheel/pedals most likely the seats would be facing "in" so you'd be chatting to each other. If you were alone you'd likely be on your phone or tablet, especially if there's free wi-fi in the vehicle.
    Then that thought led onto another, would you even need windows in a Cyber Cab?

    The FSD v.12.3.6 drive quality looks superb. But there were no real limits tests here that demonstrated some phenomenal improvement or positive new behavior. Out here in the rural wilds of northern New England, I'm seeing FSD make remarkable improvements. At the same time, on a 500 mile rt to central Maine this weekend FSD (12.3.4) required two critical interventions: one of which for a one-lane road construction scenario that it handled well in the past; the second for bad parking lot exit planning, then an attempted U-turn in a 4 lane intersection but not planning the turn radius well enough, set to impact sidewalks and light pole. Neither took place at high speed, reasonably clear anticipation of the FSD intervention about to become necessary.

    I may disagree with being impatient when the car is driving on its own. I can understand the frustration when you are fully engaged in supervised mode, but not when it eventually reaches the unsupervised end goal for FSD. I used to travel on business frequently and had to deal with all types of cab and limo drivers (some were so bad that they had no business driving at all). I’m willing to take a few minutes longer by an autonomous car if I can feel comfortable enough to ignore its actions and spend my time working in the back seat and not be concerned about what is going on around the car. Thanks for your great videos!!! 😊😊😊

    In our industry there is a triangle which says Safety, Journey, Speed which also is applicable to FSD, you can’t speed up without reducing journey experience, as well as for Safety you need to be slower which also will may be not the best journey experience, so bottom line it is a balancing act on the above three elements which we should accept as FSD.

    Great video! FSD 12.3.6 looks amazing! This is the first time I've seen your channel, and I just subscribed to your channel and liked this video. One question... FSD stops at least one complete car length before the stopped car in front of it. This is not normal, at least on the East Coast. Please comment on this point. Thank you!

    Thanks for the video. I have a question. What if you had 10 Tesla cars with FSD with the same navigation target... Would they all drive in the exact same way or can it "think different" in each car?

  • @p1pem
    @p1pem หลายเดือนก่อน

    I noticed at round the 8:30 mark of the video, the car was driving at 30mph whilst it had just gone past a max speed 25 sign (and had that depicted in the dash, so knew about it). Is that a setting you can make in FSD that allows it to go slightly above the limit and could you therefore not allow the car to do so? What would trigger the car to do so there rather than anywhere else, where it tended to stay under?

    Looks great. Do you not have to touch the steering wheel once in a while? I didn't see it bug you to do it. I have problems with school zones, left turns, and construction. Please show us more of the problem areas. School zones with children present is a big problem in my 12.3.4. I hope they fix it. Thanks.

    Amazing! Very safe and smooth. I cannot wait for it to be legal in Europe, but at the current prices, I will pass. It is not a private chauffeur or robotaxi that will get you home from a party when you have had one too many. You have to be alert to not get killed. Unless the prices come down, I will spend my money on a top-of-the-line professional camera that I for years have considered too expensive, which is still way cheaper than FSD. Billionaires don’t seem to grasp what ordinary people can afford. At least in the US, the prices have come down, which is a good thing. I look forward to seeing the future here in Europe too (I don't understand why it is illegal as the driver is still the fallback).

  • @heythave
    @heythave หลายเดือนก่อน

    For the robotaxi, I wonder if it is able to recognize a low battery and then drive itself to the nearest supercharger while sending a message to the owner. It should have the ability to determine if the battery level is not enough for the next trip, it would drop itself from ride availability. Later, the car would be able to charge itself without having a person to physically plug in the charging handle.

    Do you notice hard braking when the light turns yellow and it's somewhat close to the line? Humans would just continue and even v11 did that but V12 slams on the brakes for me. Sometimes it does coast through but it very quickly taps in the brakes then goes. So I'm curious

  • @giuseppemontanaro3763
    @giuseppemontanaro3763 หลายเดือนก่อน

    14:07 this is the reason why V12 has been declared to be capable of driving in Europe too. Good reflexes and response time by the cpu and gpu are what is needed in Countries like Italy that have narrow streets and very unexpected behaviors from the other drivers. Bravo to the Tesla AI team, hope to see this software running in UE soon, as we heard from the latest news.

    Does FSD have a pre-training step where it simply predicts the next video frame? So they could do massive unsupervised training similar to how LLMs so it. Then a post/training alignment step to make it learn the desired driving style?

    • @Kaipiso
      @Kaipiso หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I have never heard anyone describing how Tesla AI works exactly. I have only seen its “dreams” - in the form of video frames predicting the future. But I recall a Tesla employee describing the goal of user experience in the future. You would suppose to be able to enter some kind of learning mode. Then you drive manually for some time. And AI learns your habits. Then, when FSD is turned on, it will use this data to better match your expectations and your driving style.

      Every Tesla has TWO copies of the FSD HARDWARE computer (cpu, memory, double inputs…) It does this for more reliable FSD output. However: Often it will make use of this when the driver is NOT using FSD….. the car will use the SECOND (unused) system in SHADOW mode to make predictive decisions and then COMPARE them to what the HUMAN driver is actually doing…. The car can then upload this data if FSD notices discrepancies, along with compressed video data…. Somehow DOJO uses this to train on.

    8:05 did it slow down to let the car on the right have space to get in, seeing there was a van stopped ahead of it down the road?

    • @craighamnett
      @craighamnett หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Nope, nothing on the visualisation about the parked van. What looks to have happened was it didn't want to enter the intersection if it couldn't clear it. It held back because the car in front braked in the intersection and then once the lead car continued it had enough confidence it wouldn't be blocking the intersection. The gap created from that delay was then just a nice coincidence to let the car on the right in.
