    It's sad times when a $55K truck is a base truck with a $1K off-road package.
    $1K for 33" off road tires, locking differential, and skid plates is a great price but for $55K that total for a base Work Truck is crazy

    • @tjhva
      @tjhva ปีที่แล้ว +5

      This sentiment gets shared a lot but this same truck in 2005 was $28,000 (F350 / 4x4 / XL) adjusted for inflation that’s $43,000
      If your wages kept up (not all have) it’s reasonable. Esp considering a 2023 base truck will be far nicer and drive way better + tow/haul more

    • @RossMalagarie
      @RossMalagarie ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@tjhva I'm a working man so we know blue collar all most never keeps up with inflation unless you work for yourself. But you are right about this base truck is WAY better, rides better, looks better, tows more than a base 2005 truck.
      You said $28k and after inflation it would be $45k, but that still is $10k less than today's $55k, so like I said that's even with inflation still high for a base truck with an off road package

    • @SM-ut6vb
      @SM-ut6vb ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not too bad of a price for the package. The locking rear diff alone is $430, skids used to be $100 option, that leaves $465 for four Duratracs and shorter chin spoiler.

    I love the electronic parking brake. I had a 2019 trail boss that had it. Then went to a f250 tremor that didn’t have it. Now back to a Chevy 2500 hd high country and man did I miss it because when hooking up a trailer it will automatically lock in once under the ball. Also can just hit the gas and it goes off. And the hill start assist is amazing.

    Methinks I would settle for the Base Regular Cab F-250 XL 4x4 6.8L with the XL off-road pkg (A MUST!)., a bedliner (dealer or aftermarket), 410 (160+250) amp alternator AND dual batteries (would like to have this power combo for camping off grid), 4.30 elec locking axle ratio (nice to have too, faster acceleration but with a 10 speed to spread it out, who cares?) and the FX4 adds the offroad suspension.

    I have owned numerous Fords over the years & wish my 21' F350 had come with the side steps. For the last 15+ years these trucks just keep getting taller & taller. I'm average height, but I can't reach over the sides anymore to get anything off the bed. The redesigned receiver to accept 'normal' chain hooks as well. I still do not understand the 6.8L. The spec's are so close to the 7.3L. It's just a de-stroked 7.3L. The build/website doesn't list it today, but I can't imagine there could be much cost diff(?). I have the 7.3L and its a great trailer puller. If the tranny is the difference, then I'd most certainly opt for the 7.3L. For ~$1700 more you can upgrade to a F350, which I did. My payload cap is 4480#. If you're going to spend close to $60k what another $1700.

    I am really glad that I didn’t hold out for the 6.8 L. It’s not near as clean under the hood as the 7.3 I believe.
    Furthermore, I think Ford busted on their goal of being class leading. Horsepower is about the same as the GM 6.6 gas and it has less torque than the 6.6 gas.
    But, you, as always put together the best videos

    • @Johnnycdrums
      @Johnnycdrums ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The new Ford 6.8 L is fundamentally more racy than the 7.3 L, as it's the same bore dia. with .300" less stroke at .500" oversquare, and has a slightly higher compression at 10.8: 1 and both run on 87 Octane.
      I believe the 10R-100 is a lighter tranny than the 10R-140 on the 7.3 and 6.7 Diesel engines which is a good thing in my opinion.
      The Ford has to be much lighter than the GM's because of the aluminum body by about 400 pounds, but would be about 700 Lbs. if they didn't use some of that weight savings to beef up the rear axle and such.
      The only thing that pisses me off is the no availability to order any Ford truck in Short bed Regular Cab configuration any more.
      Still looking for a 2019 or newer F-150 4x4 Coyote short bed Regular Cab.

    • @imnotusingmyrealname4566
      @imnotusingmyrealname4566 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Super Duty regular cab is only available with the 8ft bed but you should be able to get an F-150 with the 6.5ft bed, although you will likely have to special order one as no dealer would have one on their lot because it doesn't make money like a crew cab does. Ford is actually the best out of the three regarding this. RAM's new cab doesn't come as regular cab and the GM cab is ancient. Ford has the best cab and it's available in every configuration.

    • @imnotusingmyrealname4566
      @imnotusingmyrealname4566 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 6.8 is a base engine. It's not supposed to blow the doors of the competition, which by the way has only one gasoline option, and for a base option the 6.8 compares favorably to the sole gasoline offerings of the competition.

    • @imnotusingmyrealname4566
      @imnotusingmyrealname4566 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Still you made the right choice, the 7.3 is the best, it's simply superb. Both the 6.8 and 7.3 absolutely destroy the Triton engines and the Boss is also beaten by them but it's obvious that Ford only introduced the 6.8 to have a low starting price while up-charging people who want the class-leader. Still, Ford is better than the competition.

      @highwayman1218 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@highwayman1218 I’ll agree with you completely that they should come with LED’s as standard for the price, however, the majority of base trucks are bought for fleets and the owners want halogens as the cost of replacing dozens of LED head lights adds up. I think the solution is that they come with halogens as standard on the xl, but you can get an LED lighting package on the xl for like $150. Great discussion though, Have a nice day!

    STX all the way. The non LED lights are goofy looking on the Fords. It’s a shame too because on previous generations they looked ok but not now.
    The 6.8 will look like the 7.3 because the difference is internal. It has a shorter stroke. It’s going to feel stronger than the 7.3 empty. Sorry ford guys, but it will. It will rev faster and have a better top end due to the shorter stroke.
