    Long time lover of your channel. FYI: I cut large PaperStone countertops every week on a 60" x 144" CNC. We rough cut everything with a serrated roughing bit, then we go back with a 3 flute finishing bit. We usually resurface before cutting PS, we cute A-side up and we have a router permanently set for the 1/16" chamfer we put on both sides. Here are a couple of bits that are similar to the ones we use:

    Congrats Jay, so far, so good the outdoor kitchen area is looking pretty damn awesome, and there's still plenty to do with the area. Once completed, you're going to have your work cut out for you just getting your guests to leave and go back to their own homes. It's one of those building projects that is just super useful and pretty awesome to have. On a plus side, you're going to be putting it to great use over the next few years unless you decide to sell up and move house. As always, buddy 💯% 👍 🇬🇧.

    This material interests me. I know it uses post consumer paper products, but I'd really like to know about their "proprietary phenol resin" as their website says. Unless this is a very unique resin formulation, a phenol resin is essentially a plastic, meaning while the recycled paper is a nice idea, the concept of this being an environmentally friendly product is a huge stretch.
    As always, very cool video, though. It's always interesting to see newer materials and how to work with them!

    Thanks for this, kind of solidifies my decision on using this for our kitchen remodel I'd like to do. I'm over granite and this stuff seems very similar to valchromat, which I just used for an art center desktop for one of my kids, but probably better suited for a kitchen environment. I love the black and red contrast on your island and table. Looks really sharp.

    Paperstone is awesome, made locally to me. We've used it on a couple of projects at work and it's really cool stuff. I want to use the leather finish one at some point. Only downside is the price, but it compares with standard solid surface materials like quartz pretty evenly, and this stuff you can machine yourself.

    Hey!, Y'all best watch dem Redneck commits! 😄 Yankee boy! Ho I've got much time on my hands this morning!
    Really like the way you're putting the patio together. I haven't heard of that paper by-product before but I like what you did with it. I'm in the process of rebuilding my back deck and you've given me some good ideas. The grill/Bar-B-Que and a smoker I already have but the gas grill is a good idea also. Breakfast on the deck sounds good without messing up the kitchen. I'm luck enough to have a water outlet on the deck and power also.
    Question, I didn't notice if your grill was a gas piped in or a 20 lb. bottle. Either way, great idea!
    Thanks for sharing your progress.

    I also had a question about the countertops. I’m wondering interested in them and really like how they came out as well as your process for getting there. Do you have an after-install report? My main question is about durability. Do the paper source tops resist chipping and cracking? Just trying to get a sense of how soft or chippable they are. Thank you again! Warmly, James

    • @JayBates
      @JayBates  ปีที่แล้ว

      They scratch a little easier than I hoped for. But it's not a deal breaker because we don't think it looks bad. Over time I think it will be more of a scratch "patina" than a scratch issue....if that makes sense.

    Loving the CNC videos and curious about the paperstone - would love to know how heat, water and, UV resistant it is at it's limits.
    Total aside: I may be jumping headlong into CNC work soon and have been drooling over the Phantom CNC machines. The 5'x10' S Series has the same price point as an Avid but has WAY more quality of life improvements. Since I live in the state it's made in the shipping cost deterrent is a non factor for me too. I'd love to know your thoughts on Phantom (though I know you don't just buy and review CNC machines), maybe you've seen them and have some opinions. Either way, thanks for another great video!

    • @JayBates
      @JayBates  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      100% depends on what you want out of the machine. I see the Phantom setup best suited for production runs and Avid platform best suited for versatility. Vertical table for joinery on the Avid, no vertical table on the Phantom. Research both and figure out how many boxes are checked with each option for YOUR current and projected workflow.

    • @nateauld
      @nateauld ปีที่แล้ว

      Perfect. Thank you. Never would have thought about the vert table option. I'll have to consider the malleability of Avid some more. Thanks again!

    • @philshock3805
      @philshock3805 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was my thought as well. Maybe not the red, but needs some sort of finish to get away from the "weathered barn" look. The cabinet and table ooze "expensive/high quality" and the greyed posts don't fit with that at all.

      I used plywood and poplar covered with General Finishes Milk Paint, an outdoor rated film finish. It's holding up great but I had to go back and caulk EVERY seam. The first rain exposed every seam. I'd do it over again if I had to start over but I'd put more emphasis on sealing the seams before finish was applied.

    I don’t think anything was wrong with the polisher. Those are going to stall, by design, like how you can make a random orbit sander stall if you push harder enough. Probably had issue because of excess finish. They make forced rotation polishers that are geared and won’t stall but you have to regulate it to prevent heating up the finish.
