You diagnose it on the nose. Nice work on the tear down.

Rusty Glovebox not ready to quit my day job but that was fun diagnosing. Still don’t know the root cause that made the bearing fail. Could be miles wear and tear....but I suspect the clutch packs (which I will tear down later) may have lost some metal first, that then migrated into the bearings.

First off, excellent video. Very informative and I love the bloodhound. I have a beagle, big fan of the hounds. Next, I work on axles as well, Custom Axle Design in Mississippi…I hate those threaded retainers. I would rather just shim. My question is, when you turned the pinion flange could you feel that the problem was in the pinion bearing or was that something you could only tell by pulling the pinion out and looking?

Own a 98 dodge ram with the same rear end, and I was doing the wheel bearings in the back, pulled the axles, pulled the silver cylinder and rotated in a bit which I was not supposed to do, and the spider gears have fell, and when trying to line it up, those shims in the back of the axle gears fell out as well, and I have no experience with this at all I got the bearings and fine now I got another messa to deal with

What's the gear ratio on those gears? Is it a 20" wheel model?....That's a clean tear down on that rear.

How can I tell if I have a bad pinion? I have a crew cab 04 ram and my pinion or yoke doesn’t shake around by hand but my right tire diode vibrates at low and high speeds and goes away sometimes then has a bad vibrating/grinding sound I do have a blown out right shock and the tube shakes around do you think that could be the problem before I tear into the diff?

The bearings that we’re supposed to fall out are ear shaped a bit mine fell out by mistake trying to figure out if they are necessary now that yours didn’t

Come to find out those ear shaped pieces are part of the belville washer in clutch pack sheared in 3 places 😅

If you think that's bad you should try taking apart an engine...I don't label anything either. 😁

      @@DL101ca Right.. : ) Especially v8, v10 ..
I use cardboard and pictures.. also each engine rebuild has its own note pad for sequence of removal that I can reverse through during install.
      Transmissions are worst ever.
