  • www.sportaviati... - Oratex aircraft fabric covering. Oratex offers significant advantages over other fabric covering systems such as Ceconite, Poly-Fiber, Super-Flite, Stewarts, etc. Oratex comes ready to use with all necessary coatings already applied. It requires no sealer, no UV coating, no primer, no paint, no coatings whatsoever.
With Oratex you can take comfort in knowing that the necessary coatings have been applied by trained professionals in near laboratory conditions. Unlike the other systems, the results are always consistent and uniform. Never again will you have to wonder how much the airplane will weigh after the paint job.
    Nontoxic and Environmentally Friendly
The Oratex system is so safe, you will work without a respirator, without gloves, and without being tethered to the hoses of a positive pressure ventilation system. You won’t be exposed to dangerous solvents or toxins, and if you are working in an attached garage, your family will not be exposed to toxic fumes infiltrating into the living quarters.
As a bonus, you won’t have to buy an expensive respirator, compressor or spray gun. (Remember to factor that in when you compare the [Cost of Oratex] to the other systems.) And the few tools that you do use, you can clean with water.
    Save Time and Avoid Disaster
Other systems require the application of many coats. Ten or more coats is common, 20 or more coats is not unheard of. Not only does the application of all those coats take a lot of time, for people who don’t cover airplanes every day each coat is another opportunity for something to go wrong.
With Oratex all of those opportunities for disaster are avoided. No runs, no spills, no splattering. No ruined work from over aggressive sanding.

If I ever have to recover my highlander I will be using this ! I`m amazed that its taken this long to make a product like this available. Coming from both the RC and LSA world RC planes have had a similar offering for 25 years ! Great product.

    Hi to All, Big News:
Oratex is now certified in the USA for Pipers, Stinsons, Aeronca Chief's, all Maules and Huskies, too.
We have also gotten Field approvals for types not yet on the AML.
We now also have a more interactive presence on Facebook as a public Group " BetterAircraftFabric " where we showcase planes and the use of the product. Customers are posting there as well...
This is some news that will help out many that want to keep their vintage planes flying without spending big money on hiring the spray painting done. And yes, after Sebring, Sun&Fun, Anchorage, Valdez, we will be in Oshkosh at EAA again as always, this time with a new all-outdoor display including airplanes and hands on demos...
    Best Regards from Alaska,
    Lars

Oratex the BetterAircraftFabric will be at Sun&Fun in Florida this year (2018) again!!! Paul will be at the SportAir USA Booth.
It looks like at our Booth #300 in Oshkosh at EAA Airventure we will be covering a Biplane during the week of the show.
In Oshkosh we will be present with at least 6 people, so that everybody can get his questions answered with no big delays.

As always, like every year, we are in Oshkosh at EAA Airventure (2021) with our booth #300 near the Control Tower. Right beside Hangar A. Right on the main road that passes in front of the tower.

Hi, we will be in EAA Oshkosh as always; just from now on we will have an Outdoor big tent display near Hangar A, very close to the old booth location inside Hangar A. We had Paul at Sebring and we will be at booth 30 outdoor at Sun&Fun, right between Bearhawk and SportAir USA, who both are likely displaying Oratex covered Airplanes!

Regarding EAA Oshkosh 2017 Airventure, we have a New location and will no longer be at the two old booth locations of previous years (2012-2016).
We will be at booth number 300, a new outdoor display including an finished Oratex6000-covered Cub and a Belite that we are covering during the show. The New Outdoor Location of our booth its on the runway side of Hangar A, very close to where our old booth was within Hangar A !
Also be aware that we now have a public Facebook group called BetterAircraftFabric as well. We are posting much more photos of customer aircraft there then we could ever show on the website. Its also quite interactive as customers are posting there as well.
We also have a New Catalog.
    Best Regards,
    Lars

I saw some EAA videos of Oratex and there are only a couple of small gotchas, apparently. Most importantly, Oratex does not strech as much as PolyFiber, so you have to adjust your practices a bit. Also, the glue is insanely strong and it's easy to bend your frame tubes just by tugging on the fabric as you're trying to stretch it. My airplane is coincidentially down for recovering and I'm trying to talk my builder into Oratex.

Well, I dare say those gotchas do NOT exist IF the instructions are being followed....We offer an almost 24/7 on-the-phone HELP-Line to any buyer ! - A service that comes with Any purchase...

Ceconite fabric bonded with any glue can also bend wings and break tubes if it is not heat shrinked correctly.

If they have a FAC page I am sure I'll find this one but as no one has mentioned it yet I must ask- what about porosity? I see that with no dope or other nonporous outer layer lying over the fabric and inasmuch as I can even see sunlight bleeding through the wing fabric what about air? Would the porous nature of an unfinished fabric like this not compromise lift and with it performance? I guess what I would like to see is side-by-side comparisons of things like climb, max speeds and turning radius between identical aircraft covered both ways. That would do wonders in helping me decide what to do come re-covering time.

    • @BetterAircraftFabric
      @BetterAircraftFabric 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hi, Its Not Porous at all ! It has six coatings on it, its just we can make it translucent. We have translucent and completely Non-Translucent products, depending on what you buy. Oratex is Fuel tight, oil, water, fuelproof etc etc. Call me up and I be glad to even get you in contact with customers who are flying it.
      Regards from Alaska!

Hello. If you stich the fabric in the traditional way, don't you have to cover the stiches with more fabric and glue, and paint at least the top part of the wing?

    • @BetterAircraftFabric
      @BetterAircraftFabric 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi William Mcrae; We have a special finishing tape that has factory-issue glue already applied to its underside that is used to cover up rib-stitching and pop-riveting, so those still do not create any need for paint. If you email me I be glad to email pictures to illustrate...
Almost all Oratex covered airplanes have that method used and also taped seams!

It's great stuff except for one thing - the price. The finished system is more expensive than Polyfiber, for example. I think the 6' wide material in the 600 variety sells for close to $100 per meter! If they can bring down the price to less than a typical doped Ceconite finish AND get it FAA approved they'd own the market. Except for those people who really want a shiny, glossy finish on their airplanes.

PDZ1122 Hi, see it could never be as cheap as Ceconite since the high-tech production is also high cost; itsa proprietary plastic woven into a woven cloth and then coated with 6 coatings at the factory, airworthy off the delivery roll. in contrast Ceconite is just a polyester Bed-sheet; That is cheap! - If you go get quality paint for Ceconite, it will quickly get more expensive, for example if you ask the good Paint guys to match our Fokker-Red in their paint, its $940,- per Gallon! With Oratex on can cover a Super Cub for $5500,- Dollars, if "Cheap" is desired. As always; call for a quote, please do not rely on the blogoshpere mouthing off for information. Best Regards from Alaska !
