    Regarding EAA Oshkosh 2017 Airventure, we have a New location and will no longer be at the two old booth locations of previous years (2012-2016).
    We will be at booth number 300, a new outdoor display including an finished Oratex6000-covered Cub and a Belite that we are covering during the show. The New Outdoor Location of our booth its on the runway side of Hangar A, very close to where our old booth was within Hangar A !
    Also be aware that we now have a public Facebook group called BetterAircraftFabric as well. We are posting much more photos of customer aircraft there then we could ever show on the website. Its also quite interactive as customers are posting there as well.
    We also have a New Catalog.
    Best Regards,

    As always, like every year, we will be in Oshkosh at EAA Airventure (2019) with our booth #300 near the Control Tower. Right beside Hangar A. Right on the main road that passes in front of the tower. We will be covering an airplane there again and so we can teach what to do and what not to do at all; non-stop during the whole week. We will also display several Oratex airplanes at the booth, aside of those that show up in Oshkosh anyway...(like the ones competing at the STOL competition !)

    Oratex the BetterAircraftFabric will be at Sun&Fun in Florida this year (2018) again!!! Paul will be at the SportAir USA Booth.
    It looks like at our Booth #300 in Oshkosh at EAA Airventure we will be covering a Biplane during the week of the show.
    In Oshkosh we will be present with at least 6 people, so that everybody can get his questions answered with no big delays.

    Big News!
    Oratex is now certified in the USA for Pipers, Stinsons, Aeronca Chief's, all Maules and Huskies, too.
    We have also gotten Field approvals for types not yet on the AML.
    We now also have a more interactive presence on Facebook as a public Group " BetterAircraftFabric " where we showcase planes and the use of the product. Customers are posting there as well...
    This is some news that will help out many that want to keep their vintage planes flying without spending big money on hiring the spray painting done. And yes, after Sebring, Sun&Fun, Anchorage, Valdez, we will be in Oshkosh at EAA again as always, this time with a new all-outdoor display including airplanes and hands on demos...

      Hi Ben Pontier; if you were to bring it to us and we cover it comepletely in our shop everything combined would be 20K Dollars. If we send an installer to you, he would charge 8700,- for the service and you have to pay airline tickets and room and board. Experience has shown he can do it in two weeks and use as little as 38meters of 72 inch wide Oratex. The typical do-it-yourself customer needs 45 meters, experience has shown. Material cost can be 9500,- ,if you would buy everything we have to offer, but if so desired it can be done for about 7500,- as well. All colors are the same price. Best Regards, Lars

    Do you put glue on the fabric where the finish tape is going on? I know the finish tape has glue on it .

    • @BetterAircraftFabric
      @BetterAircraftFabric  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are putting glue down before a tape is applied for other reasons, not for adhering the tape itself: Only put a narrow line of glue onto the top-layer of the seam, thick but narrow, like half inch or 1/3 inch, not less than 1/4 inch for sure. Before taping, both rib-stitching thread and the re-enforce tape have to be well covered in glue. But the Oratex tapes have their own glue, they do not need normal glue to stick. So do not put glue down as wide as the tapes;that is not needed and can lead to really bad messy problems if glue shows up beyond the edge of the finishing tapes! It’s about the worst mistake you can make; to "uglify" your Airplane/Oratex surface with Oratex glue that has been painted onto the surface and did not get covered up by the finishing tapes! Once the glue has been triggered with heat, there is no practical way to remove it from the surface. Do not put any glue on the surface where it might end up beyond the edge of our tapes, the tapes have their own glue on the underside! The only reason for the narrow line of thick glue along the edge of the top layer of the seam is to hide the seam line and make that"Step" of the edge disappear under a "Ramp" of molten glue that will form smoothly when you iron the tapes on at 120˚ Celsius. This is especially true on wooden airframe structures. On Metal airframes extra glue underneath the tapes may be needed to overcome the heat-sink of the metal surface underneath. On the other hand the need for the narrow line of glue under the tape exists to prevent air entrapment under the tape, such as with rib-stitches and rivets. Air caught under the tape will promote the tapes to come off (Also it will look like hell later)! On Super Cub like steel tube fuselages and similar great heat-sinks it may be necessary to apply the normal glue as wide as the contact surface with the Metal underneath the Oratex-layer in order to make the tapes adhere easier. In those cases glue applied at least as wide as the contact area with the metal structure is great, but it must be narrow'er than the tapes that are put on top of it after the glue has dried. If the correct heat gun is used with an extension cord short enough (no Brownout!) the use of glue as a barrier against the heat sink of lower longerons should NOT be necessary. That issue pretty much only came up were customers failed to use the tools we recommend and sell.
      Please email me for instructions, Regards, Lars

    • @BetterAircraftFabric
      @BetterAircraftFabric  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes and No, it depends. Basically the Oratex Finishing-tape has the glue already under it to glue itself down for sure, but usually You tape Rib-Stitches and Pop riveting and stuff and in those cases you have to put down some glue on those first, sorta like a filler to exclude air bubbles or it will look like hell.

    It almost is a good alternative to other fabric applications. I am speaking from the experimental world. Oratex and traditional fabric both have pros and cons. The pros for Oratex-lighter weight, less labor to install. Fumes is no longer a pro since Stuart systems is water based. Cons-colors are bland and custom paint erases the weight savings. Cost of materials, make a major mistake with this stuff and watch the cost quickly escalate. The pros for traditional - cost of materials, you don;t need to worry about making a mistake. Much more options for colors and paint schemes. The Stuart systems eliminate the chemicals. Oratex could have been a game changer and opened up the market for more fabric experimentals by providing an alternative to traditional fabric at a lower cost. However, home builders value their time as free so the labor savings with Oratex doesn’t really resonate with homebuilders. If homebuilders truly valued their labor time, they wouldn’t be home building. Instead they would by completed aircraft. The Bushcat with the tri lam fabric is truly the most revolutionary fabric with ease if install. However, you can only get it for one plane. I am sticking with Aluminum.

    • @BetterAircraftFabric
      @BetterAircraftFabric  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, it sure as hell ain't like vinyl car wrap. Oratex6000 is a woven cloth, with 7 coating applied at the factory. It is UV-proof. Vinyl ain't. It is extremely tough. Car wrap ain't. You could not build a Super Cub by covering it in Vinyl Car Wrap. Oratex Super Cubs are lighter than all others and yet their fabric surfaces are tougher than the traditional systems; those old ones are "Polyester bedsheet and spray-painting". Oratex is an absolutely unique system.

  • @PDZ1122
    @PDZ1122 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    On the whole, I like it. I just wish it was priced more realistically. $134 per meter is a bit much. Yes, I know.... no painting, less labor etc. I still feel the price was set to just about compete with conventional covering. It doesn't seem to be based on the cost of manufacturing. But what do I know?
    I do this stuff for a living.

    • @BetterAircraftFabric
      @BetterAircraftFabric  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      as a totally finished "airworthy off the delivery roll" system Oratex can never be comparable price-wise on the material-only side with the old "polyester bedsheet and bucket of paint delivery" of our competition. They do not have to have any of the big coating machines or any of our factory installations. - You have to see the big picture of the total benefits such as saving your (and often your family's) health from the toxic exposure and the time and weight savings. Of course its based on the cost of manufacturing!!! Can you imagine the big government rules we have to put up with in Germany?? This is not made in China!
