This was called the “Janet” era. This era for her was THE era. Janet’s vibe is different than Mike’s. This era lasted from 93-95. Janet changed the game with this album.
The first song you reviewed was during the Rhythm Nation era! Janet held down the game up to mid 2000s when the super bowl hit and she was dragged and pretty much blackListed. This song stayed number one for about 4-5 months straight!

Have a feeling you would like "IF" which is a song from the same era/album. It's a Rock/R&B mix and has a lot of energy. Video is amazing.

"If" and "Again" are my favorite Janet Jackson songs, and they're so different. Her All For You album also has a lot of really lovely songs.
Incidentally, since you love the vibe of the music, you should check out Madonna's album Bedtime Stories. Many of her songs from that era had a similar loungey R&B sound and I think that music and her Babyface collaborations made the best use of her voice.

I sooo love you are doing more Janet. Please please react to "I Get Lonely" and "The Pleasure Principle." Vocally Janet is amazing on "I Get Lonely" and performance "The Pleasure Principle " is the best dance video of all time for a female artist. I could go on and on with Hits you could choose from Janet. Side note those skits are real. She is very close with her dancers and they are called "The Kids." Also react to "Scream" her duet with Michael. You hear her voice in a more aggressive tone and she goes toe to toe with Michael. You will be blown away by that video. Oh and Janet was very big in the early 2000's. Her album All For You was released in 2001 and indeed Debut at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart with biggest 1st week sales for that year. She also had the biggest song with "All For You" of the year spending 7 weeks at #1. Janet started in big in 1986 and she Ruled the entire 90's. Check her stats. There was not a bigger artist in the 90's. One love my brother. Love your reactions.

It is a skit. There's a VHS Janet Jackson tape that has a lot of behind the scenes making-of clips. I remember them discussing how the guy would reach for the tape and Janet would "snap" it away. Even scripted, it's entertaining.
Her full concerts are great too with lots of production, sets, and choreography.
I think you said it best with her music being a "vibe".

I had to subscribe to you as soon as I saw the song choice! I’m a HUGE Janet fan. This song was her first single from the Janet. Album . That whole album is amazing. All of the dancers in the video were her friends, and she often referred to them as “the kids”. The video was directed by her then husband Rene’ Elizondo Jr. the track itself was produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and samples “Papa Don’t Take No Mess” by James Brown.

The more Janet you see, the more you'll see the range of songs like "If" and "Black Cat", the more you'll see what she can do with her voice and songwriting.

Your assumption about her music is incorrect, She was nominated for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for Black Cat.

My first time watching and enjoyed. Loved Janet from the '90s forward definitely check out her documentary on a&e and lifetime it's kind of discusses how she got erased from history when she's the only one in the family to have comparable success to her and usually successful brother. I would check out scream which is Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson together, if, and when I think of you.
I think Janet's resonance is more social and cultural in bringing activism into pop music whether it be feminism or social inequities she really popularized that model and developed a lot of the image for a lot of the r&b singers that are out these days. Definitely about her lyrics and harmonies.

as a kid from the 80s I obviously grew up on all the icons like Michael, Janet, Madonna, Mariah. But between Michael and Janet I have to say I have always been partial to Janet's albums as a whole. She has never released a bad album and her category is very diverse. her tours were always great as well. Also, the video was shot that way intentionally and was a skit. Her then husband directed this and a few other of her more iconic videos from this era. Don't know if you're aware she and Michael did a song together, Scream. Fantastic video.

Are you just really discovering Janet? Oh man, you have so much work and catching up to do. Janet is a chameleon and is definitely different than Michael, and I think a lot of that was intentional because she tried to separate herself from him as much as she could but they still are alike in some ways. The second single from this album, _If_ , is what you would need to watch next to see the performer Janet at the top of her game and her dancing skills. It's an excellent song and video.

Check out Pleasure Principle, If, Love will never do, Rhythm Nation, The Knowledge I could go on and on she’s been in the game for over 40 years 10 number 1’s, 27 top 10’s each hit came along with some of the best videos and choreography in history. Michael is legendary but Janets is equally legendary.
