    You're not allowed to honk in Germany without a valid reason? That's it, I'm moving to Germany! And coffee and cake, and money for recycling. It's perfect. Plus, Germany has the Black Forest, which I really want to visit!

There are some recipes online but I'm not even going to attempt to make. I DID just make the mango sticky rice dessert this weekend because of their old video.

    Willkommen in Deutschland :D and yeah, totally agree with all your points. When i returned from Central Asia a few weeks ago the first thing for me to do was having a Döner Kebab at my favorite place. And guess what, i returned the same night for a second Döner :) Also totally agree with the noise pollution. I live right in the Center of a big City in Germany but compared to the constantly honking drivers in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan it felt like a verkehrsberuhigte Zone.

    Had Doner kabobs almost every day in Aschaffenburg. They were a Turkish food from cut from lamb. Delicious! Not many Turks in the US (NYC), but Greeks make a similar food called Gyro. It's not quite as good as it is "ground" lamb. As a NYer I was stuck in traffic one Sunday morning out in the countryside. I wondered 1-What was the hold up? 2-Why were there no horns? It turned out that there were about 1/2 dozen people riding bicycles and the street was too narrow to pass. It was a surprise that there was Woolworth in Aschaffenburg. Don't think there are any more in US. But, when I approached the cashier I realized that they wouldn't give bags to carry everything back to the hotel.

    What great reasons to go to Germany!! Not sure about the coffee but yes on 🍰!! Definitely awesome on Green country!! So sad as we PAY to recycle which we do since it's important with only one planet Earth, and where my parents' live, I think the people get fined if they don't put the recyclables in the correct bins. Hmm, clearly USA has not tried to use positive methods for Green/recycling efforts. Only some grocery stores will give you points for bringing and using own green bags. Hope this changes so more countries do what will make our environment healthier.

    • @DeanaandPhil
      @DeanaandPhil  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, it's really crazy how behind the USA is in comparison to some European cities. The fact that plastic bags are even a free option is crazy! Force people to pay a few cents for a bag and I'm sure people will start bringing their own. It's going to feel weird when we go to the USA to see how different it is. Go green!

    • @calliet7893
      @calliet7893 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DeanaandPhil Its state to state too. I remember in Hawaii, there was a deposit on bottles which was good to see people carrying bagful of bottles to the recycling center. I think there's more in the Northeast as I think when I lived in Connecticut they did too and a lot of the other surrounding states did too. I was trying to find out what equipment is needed to recycle styrofoam since someone keeps bringing home food in their CookOut container. So grateful one of the grocery store takes them, but they've stopped taking glass.

    • @DeanaandPhil
      @DeanaandPhil  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ahhh yeah that's true! It really depends on each state and even cities. Austin, Texas was pretty green when I was there and I've heard California in general is more green.

    • @susie2251
      @susie2251 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Callie T you can’t say US as a generalization as each state is different. I’ve lived in mainly places that do recycling like Germany. In both Connecticut and California, we paid a cash deposit on all plastic bottles that you redeemed at the store like they do in Germany with a machine that accepts the bottles. There are no free plastic bags in either of those states either to encourage use of reusable bags. Essentially, the key is that Democratic states in the US usually have the same good policies as Germany.

    I love coffee and cake, and bakeries overall in Germany. The fresh bread, nice pastry. Sit and chat-culture. When I was staying at my bf's (ger) he lived in the middle of town, literally on the side of a town square, and the closes bakery was same house just downstairs. Made it my thing to just pop in and by couple breakfast buns. Love, love love! In Finland, if I meet with my friends we mainly come to the other person's house, in Germany, we always meet in a cafeteria.
    One thing to add on your list: I really miss the sound of Church bells. It's so pretty! I just open the window, sigh, stare and listen. In Finland our bells ring only for funerals/marriages/come here and listen like idk once a week or so maybe. And the dark seed bread by Lidl, so good for breakfast and made my tummy work like a bombing machine! My fiance has to import that when he comes over, lol.

But the strongest one is that it was invented by Mr. Iskender in Bursa,Turkey😊 But I know that German people love this and we really like (as a Turkish one) German people😊 So, there is not a big theme to dispute. Also Döner means in Turkish: something which turns around.

      @@DeanaandPhil That's the cool thing about food culture: if it gets exported, it turns into something new, another version of something familiar. The infrastructure and the way it is set up as a whole. I always took public transportation for granted until I moved to the US and realized how much it is lacking here. I also think that Germany does a much better and more efficient job in recycling. Those are just a few things that come to mind.

    But even in Germany we have differences between cities regarding Döner. I have been traveling a lot throughout the country but nothing comes close to the Döner I get back home in Berlin

    Kebab is a giant blob of bread stuffed with meat? Id like that but hold all the rabbit food...

    • @RoxxSerm
      @RoxxSerm 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It basically is. Originally its turkish, so the meat and its seasoning is what im talking about. Döner Kebab is just to stuff all that into bread, add sauce ( white yoghurt-ish sauce, often with garlic ) and add as much "rabbit food" as you want. I like mine with red slaw, red onions, feta-cheese, sauce and meat.

      Basically it's a full meal idea packed in one. So you get bread meat plus salad along with a nice sauce of your choice. At a kebab house you can decide whether you like salad or not wich makes a kebab even better because it's your choice what you want. You can customize 😍

    Please keep in mind that Germany can only be this green and clean because we externalise all the negative consequences of our actions into other countries. If we would not export our waste into southe east asian and african countries we would not be as well off as we are. We are living on the costs of other people so we sould not pride ourselves on our great lifestyle that much

    The solar panels and Wind turbines are definitely a big fat negative in Germany. Because of using this ineferior energy source Germany has become the most expensive country in Europe in terms of electricity costs. If only they would wake up and bring back the nuclear power plants they would not only fix the very high energy costs but also be using energy that emits little to no CO2.

    Ich hab 7 Jahre im Ausland gewohnt und ich hasse Kaffee und Kuchen Immernoch aber ja ..ich mag keinen Kaffee ich bevorzuge herzhaftes Essen. kann man nichts machen. Versuch immer n Käsebrot oder ne Käsestange zu essen, wenn ich mich schon mit hinsetzen muss 😂 und Pfand hasse ich auch. Aber so gute Döner findet man tatsächlich nirgendwo.
