Those really were the days. One income could support your family.
Housing was affordable. People/Neighbors were friendly with one another (maybe not so much with Archie). Times were so much simpler.

@@OtoyaYamaguchi777 thanks for sharing that. Personally I think CONGRESS ,once again, made a BIG MISTAKE on that one. When quotas were in place, vetting was much more efficient. If an American citizen wants to move to another country, we have to follow procedures and sometimes pay large sums of money to do so.
      Immigrants coming here Don't.
So again, CONGRESS got it wrong on passing that law.

Archie was nice. He was just misinformed when growing up. Plus it was at an era where people wanted their culture in their own Neighborhood. Hell, even Mr Jerfferson didn’t want a Puerto Rican to move in.

Lyrics from the FULL version of that song:
Boy, the way Glen Miller played.
Songs that made the Hit Parade.
Guys like us, we had it made.
    Those were the days
    Didn't need no welfare state.
    Everybody pulled his weight
Gee, our old LaSalle ran great.
    Those were the days
And you knew where you were then
Girls were girls and men were men.
Mister, we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again.
    People seemed to be content.
    Fifty dollars paid the rent.
Freaks were in a circus tent.
    Those were the days
    Take a little Sunday spin,
Go to watch the Dodgers win.
    Have yourself a dandy day
That cost you under a fin.
Hair was short and skirts were long.
Kate Smith really sold a song.
I don't know just what went wrong
    Those Were the Days

During the show's sixth season, starting on December 1, 1975, CBS began airing reruns on weekdays at 3 p.m. (EST), replacing long-running soap opera The Edge of Night, which moved to ABC. The show would later move to 3:30 p.m. and in September 1978, 10 a.m. This lasted until September 1979, when Viacom distributed the reruns to the off-network syndicated market where many stations picked up the show. In 1991, Columbia Pictures Television began syndicating the show, and Columbia's successor companies have continued to do so. That same year, it returned to CBS in reruns in prime time during the summer of 1991, in the latter instance paired with Norman Lear's new (and decidedly less successful) series Sunday Dinner. Selected reruns also surfaced in prime time in September 1991 and January 1992. Since the late 1980s, All in the Family has been rerun on various cable and satellite networks including TBS (although it held the rights locally in Atlanta, as well), TV Land, Nick at Nite, and Sundance TV. From January 3, 2011, to December 31, 2017, the show aired on Antenna TV. As of January 1, 2018, the show began to air on GetTV.

it would probably be a very special episode that forces the characters to meet others who they know next to nothing about and then they see that trans people are just people whose mere existence has been politicized.

Jeez that voice... I don't remember her singing THAT bad, I know it was bad, but having a sensitive ear I can hear how truly terrible it really was, having not listened to it since the 80s

Even though I'd be probably be considered more liberal than meat-head and Gloria, I have a certain appreciation of this show. Archie may be an uneducated bigot, but he's still a good person at heart, given the opportunity to learn.

Archie (as well as George Jefferson and Fred Sanford) were men of their time and we all have men like them in our family and we recognize them so easily, that's how human and real these characters were, as well as just plain funny.
