- Edith (Jean Stapleton) has an accident that involves clinging peaches and a shopping cart.
From Season 2, Episode 7 'Edith's Accident': Edith's shopping cart gets away from her, resulting in a minor paint scratch. Out of the cart pops a can of "mmmm-mmmm" (cling peaches) in heavy syrup, causing a dent in the hood. Edith leaves a note on the car and the owner comes by to collect the damages.

Yes, Jean Stapleton's performance was gold in this (and many other episode gems) but you just gotta laugh your guts out every time Archie opens his mouth! When he tells her to "get onnnnn with it" and when he demands that everyone stop eating, and the facial expressions..........Carroll O'Connor was a laugh riot as Archie Bunker!! 🤣🤣
Her stories always made sense. Such a lovable woman and the sweetest ever. Always positive and happy even when Archie tells her to “stifle”.
I can’t stomach this guy’s total disrespect for this sweet and wonderful woman. I was told these nasty males still do exit. A friend of mine from an Eastern European country told me that her father has always treated her mother that way. This is pathetic 😂

Another in an endless parade of priceless moments from the greatest actress in television history. While the fabulous Jean Stapleton was known as Archie's loveable Dingbat Edith. Her talent pervaded the screen until you have to wonder, "Was she the greatest actress of all time." It is a very arguable point on her behalf. Did any actress ever play an individual character with the consummate brilliance that Jean Stapleton portrayed Edith Bunker? "MMmm MMmm." Simply beyond reproach.
I wonder if that "it was a freak accident!" line was improvised, because Jean could sense that there needed to be a little something extra to put an exclamation point on the story. Either way, a master class in comedy.
One of the funniest episodes of "All in the Family," right up there with "Edith's Problem" and "Edith Flips Her Wig." And I LOVE ❤ cling peaches in heavy syrup too! Archie: "What's this?" (looks at Edith's bowl). "Oh, a bowl full of mmmm-hmmmm. Take it away!" Edith (starts eating peaches): "I bought eleven cans." Hilarious!😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

We had just purchased our first color TV. Grandmother was eating dinner with us, which was rare because she & Mom did not get along.
All 5 of us laughed hard through this sketch. Grandma let loose a denture. I inhaled some food and choked. Even my Dad laughed loud, which was rare.

I like mmm hmmm in cottage cheese. And many other things. I have made sweet bread with them, the heavy syrup as part of the batter and the peaches cut up in the bread. Ummm hmmmm!

Perfect example of how wonderful the writing was on this show and having two brilliant comedic actors like Carol and Jean made this the best sitcom of all time. No disrespect to Seinfeld or M*A*SH or Mary Tyler Moore all classics as well but All In The Family is unmatched when it comes to laugh out loud reactions.

Jean Stapleton is pure gold. By far the best actor (and they were all great). Loved how this show exposed racism and bigotry using humor. Archie would be a MAGA today

Actually, it likely could. The shopping cart....definitely! Ask me how I know. :/ The can of peaches? Yep, especially if it was the jumbo-can. Those suckers are huge & heavy.....& landing from up in the air, it could make a dent. :)
