    The new age of jazz and jambands are all educated and trained musicians. The level they play at is astounding and the ability to listen to each other is bar none. They know everything inside out and all directions...great era to witness the progression.

      I completely agree. The Information Age has made the world smaller and the inevitable result is the best of the best making great things.

    Larnell Lewis ( on drums) learned his part on the plane while flying out to this jam 24 hours before! I love those “ heavenly Stevie Wonder” chords Cory plays on keys at the beginning of his solo. I think he must’ve been manning the keys in the big UFO in Close Encounters😅

    It’s amazing that in the middle of Corys solo the rhythm section just spontaneously adds a beat to the phrase to land on the 1 together with Cory. Just fabulous

    Someone please meet me at the crossroads so I can play like Larnell Lewis. These guys are virtually untouchable. You may want to try Shofukan or Binky. Cheers!

    It's called funk fusion jazz... Larnel Lewis learned all the drum parts on a 7hr flight to the Netherlands. He had never played with them before this.

    Tonight I watched a ton of your reaction videos, from Dirty Loops, Snarky Puppy, Jamiroquia, George Micheal, Blue Oyster Cult..... I have to honestly say I love a "real" musician's view.... see I like you, try hard to be a musician.....yeah I work hard to do what these guys and gals seemingly do effortlessly, so really cool to hear you and your missus think about (yes I mainly watched British style performers)....keep going guys, loving your work, I'm a tiny subscriber now..

    Glad that you are getting to Snarky Puppy. I probably watch this about 4-5 times/week. The talent level is off the charts. Cory Henry on keys and Larnell Lewis on drums are standouts but let’s face it the whole band is incredible. There is a video of them with Cory Wong that will blow your mind. Can’t get this type of music on most other channels Chod. Good job.

    I have finally subscribed. First it was Knower, then Blood Sweat and Tears, followed by Al Kooper, and now Snarky Puppy. All you are missing is Dirty Loops.
    Keep it up!!!!

    I believe I heard that the drummer never played with this band, and learned the music on a plain ride to this gig.

    • @gbulmer
      @gbulmer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Larnell Lewis, the drummer, had played with Snarky Puppy before. He 'learned' two songs before boarding the 'plane, and the rest on the 7½ hour flight. His Drumeo video _'Larnell Lewis Hears A Song Once And Plays It Perfectly'_ th-cam.com/video/vIW72VXMPHo/w-d-xo.html shows what 'learning' a song means. The video _Snarky Puppy We Like It Here - Larnell Arrives_ th-cam.com/video/EvxN7wCjSis/w-d-xo.html gives some context to his impact on the recording sessions for 'We Like it Here'.

    Yeah, there are no scrubs in that band, everybody can blow doors off. The total ensemble playing is outstanding, and of course the standout solo by Cory and Larnell just killing it on the drums. It was a great performance all around.

    You young bloods don't know where this style originated. It ain't "new jazz" family. It's the next stage of "FUSION!" Go check Chic Corea's "Return to Forever", with Stanley Clark on bass and their drummer Billy Cobham. And while you're at it, check "Weather Report" with Jaco Pastorius and the "The Mahavishnu Orchestra." New jazz? No. Just an exceptional rendering of an original style called "Fusion Jazz."

    These guys are totally awesome for sure - may fave band, bar none. You mentioned how important the percussionist is to the overall groove (absolutely!); you might find the band "Ghost Note" to be worth checking out too - Nate Werth (SP percussionist on Lingus) plays percussion there as well, teamed with former SP drummer Sput Searight, it's a killer band - a lot in common w SP, but totally their own thing (Mono Neon plays bass with them a lot)

    Larnell Lewis is an incredibly humbling drummer to watch. But that's Snarky Puppy's deal. Musicians better than you at every instrument. Check out Mario Duplantier of Gojira. A radically different drummer but the only cat who I think can match Larnell's skills.

    Void of personality. Its like listening to a programmed robotic band who have had the "feel" downloaded. Give me Chicago any day.

    • @davenatale850
      @davenatale850 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you don't like it, don't listen to it. Early Chicago was great, but after Terry Kath died they became another band. I think you should give this band some more listens before you give up on them. Instead of sounding like modernearl, you sound like get off my lawnearl!
