    Sorry for the lack of skating in this video. I've been filming for another review video and just kinda got burned out on filming so much.
    I also forgot to go over the sole. It hasn't worn down noticeably and the grip feels just as new.

    thanks for the info about the fact they made the shoes narrower, i'll stick with my eS Accel OGs for my wide feet

    • @ianturnbow7011
      @ianturnbow7011 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’ll debating on switching to the Accels. I skated the Square One and Two before éS went on hiatus. Once they came back, I was on the Accel Slim quickly. Pre-energy foam insoles, my feet hurt like hell unless I changed out the Accel Slim insoles.
      I’ve been told the OG Accels skate a lot like SB Dunks, which I’ve skated off and on since 2008/2009. Dunks are trendy, full of hype, too expensive to for resale, and nearly impossible to cop at retail.
      Which shoes would you say the Accel OG skates the most like?

      @@ianturnbow7011 I'm a beginner skater, but i would say they're one of those minimal thicc toungue skate shoes. the only one i can compare it to is both etnies Kingpin and Joslin 2. as far as i can tell the Accel OG are more flexible than the Dunks

    hey dude, love the channel. Keep up the good content.
    One video I'd love to see is your pick for best all-rounder wheel - has to be able cruise, yet fast enough to pump around at the park. Contenders could be OJ Key Frames 87a, Ricta Clouds 92a, OJ Nomads 95a, Speedlab Nomads 97a, etc.
    By the way, are you 'yourbreakfast' on slap?

    • @ThorneBenatar

      Thanks! That's a pretty neat video idea, although it's going to cost a bit of money 😥
      As for my slap account, you got me! Although keep it on the downlow; I don't post my videos on there since I don't want some old Indy dude showing up to my house 😅 (although I do get stoked when someone else posts my videos on there)

      Shit, I still remember my first pairs of the Chukka Low, AV Sk8-Low, classic Half Cab, and even the first kicks with Waffle Cup: the Stage Four. Skating Era Pros in the early 2010s was such a treat. Even a pair of Slip-On Pros from 2011 had the Classics outsole on them instead of the darker, less grippy Pro outsole.
      Sole Tech kicks are my go-to, but Vans makes some of the best skating shoes. They don’t last for shit and get soggy/floppy too quickly. Nike SB used to be great for durability, but all I cop these days are Blazers. Tried messing with Dunks, but would resell and then a profit even after buying them above retail. I just can’t get myself to skate in a shoe for $200+ when it’ll be shredded in a month to six weeks. Vans has a lot of tech, but I would love a longer lasting shape and consistency of support.

    I havent tried these yet but I had the fabiana delfino sk8 his and i couldn't get used to them especially cuz the pop cush insole was super thin on the toe with a big ass heel, also they where just wayyyy too bulky and I literally cant skate them at all, wasted 70$ :(

  • @eldestisland4520
    @eldestisland4520 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    What would you say to having two types of shoes? The sk8-hi's for flat ground and a more protected pair for verts. That way you get the maneuverability of the sk8-hi's only when you need it.

  • @ProdByClockwerk
    @ProdByClockwerk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Another shitty thing about the toe boxes, is I've heard that on all the new skate classics, not just the sk8 hi, they changed the duracap and the rubber under the suede takes up like 50% of the toe box. This means the skate classics toe will be narrower, and stretch out less than the old pro skate ones. Also, all the rap will be a sweat magnent.

    • @VhaidraSaga
      @VhaidraSaga 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup, definitely thinner.

  • @skatelifeche
    @skatelifeche 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Leather will always work the best for you • there's a reason they don't make motorcycle jackets out of suede when you're sliding on the cement

  • @boosts14
    @boosts14 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I like the thinner rubber on the toe. Gives a more consistent flick imo. Some of my fave vans to skate in through the years have had it like the style 99s and spv ect.

  • @ianturnbow7011

    Will this be the same problem across the board with all of the Skate Classics? Some shoes in the line are already deviating. The Grosso Skate Classic Sk8-Mid (R.I.P.) has 3-D UltraCush, like the Chima 2.

    get the rowan pros they have waay too much rubber on the toe box. i street skate and transition and hate the old toe box. you cant get use to it with the toe box was too bulky to flick anything! the old schools have a lower profile toe cap as it is, compared to the half cab.

    "Improvements" might have been actually "we wanna cut costs and not get hate for it, so well call them new features..." Very lame and something every company has been doing. Indy used to have every truck stamped "made in usa" and now they can't because its no longer true. They all want to cut costs it seems. Powell peralta used to have very big statements claiming they will never sell out and yet now the boards are made in china. Thats not a big deal and they are still both my fav companies but it seems like every company jumps on the cost cutter band wagon eventually. Maybe they have to and its for the right reasons but they used to pride themselves on their usa quality and then one day did a 180 in attitude toward it.

      Likely are forced to or go out of business. Let’s face it though, vans (along with many other core-skate brands) sold out and did by far the most cost cutting when they created their “casual” or “civilian” -as I like to call it- line. Inferior in every way but did created them to look so identical to their skate-performance based counter-parts that even most of the vans employees at any given store don’t know the differences between the lines, some that there even is a difference, calling many non vans skate shoes skate shoes, what the differences are or how to tell. Certainly not be the price tag, as even though a “civilized” skate era is likely at least three times cheaper to produce/are only usually marginally cheaper (around %5-%10) even though they only last for maybe a third of the amount of time. I’ll usually advice customers who are looking at a casual model to go for the skate versions because they last much longer are way more comfortable and are usually about the same price, anytime I happen to be in a vans store.

      I know skaters as I am one, and with the countless hours we spend riding our boards, I know that me and every other skater are always willing to pay a premium for the best performing, longest lasting, solely for skating designed shoe anyone can come up with. But if some company in china can make something about as good as even the best everything whatever, wherever that might be made whether the USA or elsewhere, and make them for cheaper… then it doesn’t make much to do so. Any brand I support, if they came out with something that was at all inferior but cheaper cost.. I wouldn’t buy it. I’m always willing to pay higher for better in whatever regard. I’d assume most all other skaters would agree. So if any given company actually did do that… I think it’s safe to blame the civilians… and also people who get all super into skating for two seconds and then never do it again, you know the ones doing it for the wrong reasons… as it’s those type of consumers that basically degrade the quality of every company in every field that has these same sort of conditions. The “entry levels” who want mid grade sub par equipment for the lowest price they can get it at. Because they know they’re just as likely to ride their set ups for an hour and then never again as they are to keep on riding. And it’s those one-off-one-time-la-la-landers that account for a larger portion of these
      Company’s sales. Only second to the “posers” the thurough-bred-civilian who buys this stuff, espeicallyyyyy “skate” shoes, who do not have and will never have any intention of using this stuff for anything performance related. Let alone skate related. Why would you pay top dollar for a superior shoe when you can get one for a fraction of the price that looks identical? I mean, you’re only buying and wearing it for other people to see you doing so… right?

    Honestly, this whole 'Skate Classics' thing with the checkerboard and all is just a big publicity stunt. Van's sole purpose was built around skateboarding and to rename the Pro line to 'Skateboarding' line is pretty damn redundant. Second, from an artist's point of view, that checkerboard pattern on the tag is a total eyesore if one where to do a custom on it. For me, I used the Pro line to have a more comfortable custom sneaker that I can wear and work both causally and on the board. With the recent change, that tag screws with the whole piece and really throws the idea of a well working custom out the window. I am thoroughly disappointed by Vans and shall never purchase another sneaker from the 'Skateboarding' line again.
