It could have been because of the subject matter but 3 years before Silence of the lambs won best picture so it's weird...easily Pitt's best performance along 12 monkeys and highly superior than Once upon a time in Hollywood which to be honest it's a very one dimensional character. They're 'career Oscars' like Pacino's Scent of a woman and others.

He probably would have if the film hadn't been released at a time it was, the attitude of society back then when it comes to law enforcement back then making it takes years for the film to be recognised as one of the greats.

When Amy Adams finally wins hers, and I think she will, she’ll get one. Glenn Close, sadly, won’t, though, IMHO, she’s given the best performance in the Actress category 3,times: 87, 88, and 18.

i will tell you this freeman is one of the greatest actors that ever lived, an actor that transcends boundaries and always provide a compelling performance whether he was in a minor role or a leading role. its always nice to see a true virtuoso get his work recognised,
also the end scene in driving miss daisy is touching and moves me to tears any time I see it.

The Academy will never give the Oscar to the same actor twice in the same year! I personally think Jaime deserves to win in supporting but he was a lock to win in Lead for Ray. So instead give the Oscar as a career achievement to the iconic Morgan Freeman!

I think he should of won for The Shawshank Redemption. He was absolutely incredible in that film. He has a depth in that performance that is rarely achievable by actors. The scene when he keeps his promise to Andy and walks through the fields of Buxton. No dialogue, just Morgan and Thomas Newman’s magnificent score, a true high point in American Cinema.

He's just one of those special people that just comes in one comes around once in a lifetime and he just makes it look so easy and all those actors there know that he's an amazing person and that they're standing in the presence of greatness. I remember him when I was a little girl when he was on the electric company.

He turned one such small, almost insignificant character like Scrap, into legend. He does that with every single one of his roles. That is his legacy.

Morgan Freeman is one of the very best actors! What impresses me most about him, besides his outstanding acting talent; is his voice: the intonation, the sound, the depth of feeling echoing from each word he utters with such excellent understanding and soul. I adore and respect him greatly.

One of the few actors/directors in recent years to actually get a unanimous standing ovation: only the likes of Clint Eastwood (2004, director of this very movie), Martin Scorsese (2006), Meryl Streep, Christoper Plummer (both 2011) ^ Steven Spielberg (1998) have been given the same honor.

And then because of that with Foxx (he got for Ray), the Academy changed their rules so that's not even possible, anymore. However, it did happened at the 1989's Golden Globes when Sigourney Weaver won as Best Supporting Actress and Leading Role Drama (in a tie that had Jodie Foster and Shirley MacLaine winning). But when it came for the Oscars Weaver got nothing. And was nominated for both movies (Working Girl and Gorillas in the Mist).
