Cass, is really the first person who started organization with dollar tree bins, and everybody jumped on that bandwagon. I watched her when her channel name was Malitose74.. I have been with her from the start, and no matter how much money she makes. She has stayed so humble, and relatable. Even when she had weigh loss surgery she didn't change and become vain. She is still as genuine now as she was when she first started/❤️❤️❤️

My home has been “greyiege” for a decade. It was the new colour when I was working for a well known high end home decor store. No regrets. Every separate room has a different colour scheme with the same wall colour. It is amazing how well it works with everything. Navy. Turquiose, brick red, Bright green (my son’s room). Small house, perfect flow, lots of colour.

I can certainly relate. When hubby is away I get to work. My entire house is Revere Pewter lol. I recently went crazy and painted 3 bathrooms and my huge kitchen and family room the same color. Now my house looks like a hospital because it’s so greige. Working on adding colorful accent colors. Thank you so much I love all your videos and you always make me laugh.

20+ years ago, my husband went to Italy for work. I couldn’t go because I didn’t have a passport. I painted our bedroom purple. He was shocked, but I told him the name was Passion Purple. He said , it better be!

In my younger years, my much older then me hubby went out of town for a work weekend. I decided I was going to paint our living room and kitchen blue and yellow. When he arrived home, I proudly revealed my hard work to him and asked, “do you like it?” He replied, “if I don’t, do I have to repaint it?”, I said, YES! He said, I LOVE IT!

Fun story... My husband was the type that our house could not look lived in. Nothing. Literally for years we had a couch and tv cabinet that when shut just looked like nothing. Fast forward 12 years ago... He went away, aka divorce haha Since then I have decor for every season, I change out everything, I mix/match, I have STUFF... Maybe too much. But you know what? We LIVE here (my 2 kids and I) and the best thing ever was when someone came over and said "your house really is a home for you and your kids" YEP!
Living my best life creating an environment that is US. And I don't care if it's in style, or "cluttered". I am no minimalist. And im ok with that.

  • @Vro-
    @Vro- 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

You're hilarious, the paint scenario sounds like something I would do because I tend to gravitate towards the same tones! This trend of all gray is so cold, everytime I would see pics of a room I thought the photos were b&w! Your friend was right that warm tones turn things from cold to cozy!

Love hearing what you have to say and how you organize. For me in decorating I still love dark green and burgundy. Yup a product of my age. The walls are a form of beige with a gold undertone and the green and burgundy are the accent colors. Decorate with what you like. After all you are the one living there and everything comes around again some time. If it does not who cares as long as you are happy. It only matters when it comes time to sell your house and show it of to potential buyers and then it is a different thing. Enjoy hearing what you have to say. it makes me happy.

The basement looks warm and inviting. Nice job! I laughed out loud at the end of your painting saga. It sounds like something I would do. When we bought our second home years ago, I dialed back my love affair with pastel yellow walls. It seems my family didn’t love the light yellow as much as I did. Warm tones and neutrals can blend so nicely with any decor. 😊🌞

Oh man, the paint story. A couple months ago I was desperate for a change in my living room/dining room and agonized over which greige to go with until I settled on Agreeable Gray. If anyone is interested, AG and Smooth Stone by Glidden (which is far cheaper and WAS ALREADY ON MY WALLS) is identical. 😭 I'm so butthurt that I can't deal with the dumb walls for now.

That end story about the painting project is the type of story that makes me relate so well to you. I was tired of yellow in my kitchen, bought new paint (as I was rushed through the paint aisle by my family) and realized I came home with a darker yellow. Oh well it was so much work, it's staying. I like the color well enough.

Many great tips, though most heard before but hey if good repeat no issue. Adding plants/green I agree. When decorating my living room I liked using white and gold, including golden-looking curtains But, it looked Cold. But, adding some plants and suddenly it is all warm And shiny. I even placed a fake thin garland in the window where ordinary pots was too heavy. Really helped.

I once made the decision to paint my kitchen walls green. It was the first time I had painted that room so I miscalculated the amount of paint needed to cover the previously dark pink (now you know why I was redecorating) walls. "That''s OK," I thought. "It's a fairly commonly used colour, I'll just nip out to the local DIY store and buy another tin." I could not find the same brand but I did find the 'same' colour, and merrily slapped another coat on the walls.
It looked OK for about two years. That's when I realised that I had not applied the second coat evenly, because the two paints faded differently. So, for about three years, I lived with mottled green walls in my kitchen.
It's all experience, right? At least I knew how much paint was needed, when I redecorated it cream recently.

Wow! Such a lovely decorated room! It feels very comfortable. If I may make a suggestion? What do you think about putting the large plants, the ones on either side of your fireplace, up on a table or some type of riser, to help give these large plants some extra height and drama?

I love your end story. How on Earth did you pick the exact same color?! 😂 My parents always did the same thing. I always looked forward to it! 😄

I've been seeing and hearing that "the" new colors/tones for 2022 and 2023 are exactly what Abby suggested for your colors. It is relaxing and beautiful. I loved staying for the final story. Now that's probably something I might have done. You know, when you love something so much...yeah that one is going to be dangled above your head for a time no doubt. LOL Great job all around. P.S. can you tell me what you used for the flooring. I have to change mine out soon and had a marble tile look in the kitchen that had the "greyeigh" tones and I added random black tiles to it. I think I could definitely live with the floor you put down. I need to do it budget friendly. Hubby passed away last August and I'm having to do some major changes as it appears everything is falling apart at the same time. Ugh! 54+ years of marriage and now I'm stuck doing this too. Oh well, such is life. Thanks in advance if you can share the flooring product.

In American homes with two communal spaces, one is typically referred to as the living room and the other is the family room or, in more recent years, the loft. The living room is intended to be a more formal space to entertain guests, similar to a parlor or drawing room. Living rooms are meant to encourage conversation, whereas family rooms are informal spaces that usual contain the TV.
Thinking about houses in my area, I’d venture a guess that separate living and family rooms became popular in the 70s or 80s, even in smaller homes. Great rooms, or open concept floor plans, became popular in the late 90s and have remained so for the most part, although families with kids often seem to create a separate casual hangout space in the basement, loft, etc. - probably to give themselves some peace and quiet in the main living area, corral toys, etc.

Love your basement haven! And I've gotten nearly the same color paint for a project!
Another consultation to consider, is one with a Feng Shui practioner! The value is much more than the price charged - and your space will feel lighter and fresher!
Several years ago, our acupuncturist and I (a Massage therapist) rented treatment rooms in a local clinic. She'd worked with tips and cures from my friend Gwynne Warner in another office, so we hired the consultant together, to address our potion of the office!
While I didn't implement all Gwynne's ideas, I used many of them - including washing the walls and the exercise ball (¡used at the foot of the table for ergonimics!) with a bit of salt and orange essential oil in the water! (I'd been in the room 13 years, and the walls had been repainted, but I'd not ever thought to wash them!)
I added a gold cloth (sheer curtain!) draped under my Ashiatsu bars, and echoed that with a couple of gold covered cushions.
I also decluttered decorations and ornaments, and got inexpensive fabric cubes from our dollar store to tuck away my linens and lotions, for a more streamlined appearance!
My coworker teamed with the doctor to choose and purchase nicer chairs for our reception area, and implemented most of the tips.
Lisa and I each had doors set at an angle, and Gwynne recommended the cure of hanging a crystal above each of them.
I'm moving into a Grannie flat that's being constructed behind my daughter's soon, and considering a consultation ❤

Grey's often have undertones. So there are warm greys , cool greys, French greys.
Just check if it is a grey white & black or if yellow, blue or Brown is mixed in.
Miss matching will make something look muddy or off.

As a designer myself, I'd have suggested a couple things: 1) Instead of just framing your family photos, they would have had more impact by also using photo mats and 2) Pull your sectional sofa in the corner away from the wall about 4". You'll be surprised how that actually makes the room look bigger and you really don't lose that much space in the room. Usually most designers will say the #1 error most people make is shoving their furniture directly up against the wall. I do like the overall 'after' look 😊

Oh my goodness that is what I used to do. In fact my boys will say do you want to know how many shades of paint is under the top layer. I used to paint every year and yep they would come home and things would be different. It was almost like he expected it. My one son still thinks I'm that way but he is the one that moved away right after high school so he's been gone for a long time and he lives far away so he doesn't get your very often. But I tell him oh no I am learn to become more content. Cass you always bring me the giggles and in some way I can always see a little piece of me in something that you do you're the best! I do love your room in your basement it is beautiful. But that is too funny that you pick the same oh my you poor girl I bet you were thinking you were seeing things. Big hugs and much loved you you're such a rockstar and thank you for being the blessing you are

I’m glad you pointed out the shades of beige in the fireplace. I’m so glad grey is on its way out! I see grey every day in Seattle. Teal is my favorite color. I want a designer for our next place.

I am currently remodeling my kitchen. Yesterday about the paint and it is like a dark blue for the cabinets and actually went with tan for the walls. I normally always get same gray for my walls. I’m glad I went outside by comfort zone on the colors.

Bahaha!! This might be the best end story so far! I am very much into cooks and greys, and can't stand warms and tan, even though I know they're "the new thing." Totally love how you stayed on her "rules," but still made the fireplace not boring AT ALL!
About plants, there are definitely some low-light plants that would probably work well in there, if you wanted to try your hand at some more real plants. Snake plants are my go-to for bathrooms without windows, and I know Pothos can do pretty well with low light! I'm sure there are a million lists and videos about easy low-lighters, but those are the two that I've had great experiences with! Love the room!!

One enhancement.. the rug could go further under the couch and towards the wall. The corner of the rug that is currently in front of the fireplace..would now be pushed back further. Creating less angles in the sight line of the fireplace. It will look "cleaner"/more finished. (Or pushing the rug further under the floating sofa.)
