Its very interesting to see how these items are made, I love watching this video!
This is a very old tradition of awarding what we would term "knighthoods," dating back to at least the Middle Ages.
Unfortunately, many of the great craftsmen living in Europe were killed off during World War I, and the decline in workmanship began, many countries suffering especially from this.
Some of the finest examples were produced in the 19th/early 20th centuries as it was considered an insult to the Crown to offer less than the best to recipients.
Im glad to see here that this tradition of fine insignia continues!
