  • Hey guys,
    This is a pretty unscripted video showing the method that I've come up with for court mounting medals for wear. If you have any questions please leave them below, and if you're interested in my work you can follow me @tigermedals on Facebook and Instagram. DM me on those platforms if you wish to make a purchase.
    cheers,
    Jayden

    Very nice tutorial. I agree with the fishing line but if you ever need to use thread might I suggest DMC embroidery thread. Each strand can be separated into 6 individual threads. DMC is 100% cotton and comes in over 350 colors.

    Sending thanks from Canada - did a 6 medal WW2 replica grouping commemorating my grandfather's service using your video and a little advice on overlapping. Took nearly 2 days for a first try, but really happy with the result. Your video is much appreciated!

    Hi, Is there any reason why you did not feed the ribbon through the slots in the medal bar ? Also do you not put a fabric or felt covering over the backing board. In UK, medal mounters use Buckram rather than plastic, I am going to try both - Thank you, great instructions.

    Great video Jayden. Very impressive. I'm going to give it a crack. Where can you purchase your 3mm acrylic backing boards. I see that Spotlight has a 2mm product, but not the 3mm. And your double-sided tape looks really good. Where do you source those? Many thanks.

    • @jaydenmonaghan3723
      @jaydenmonaghan3723  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hey mate,
      I lined the top of my backing board up with the lines on my cutting mat and measuring down 95mm I used that second line as a reference to line up the bottom of the medal. I mark for the holes with a marker and then drill. That way when I wrap the board in ribbon I can just use a needle to find the hole and line the medals up with that hole, because I've already figured out the length right at the beginning. I try and set myself up right at the start to make sure I don't have to fiddle around once the ribbon and medals get involved in the process.
      Thanks for watching!

    Interesting video, lots of skill involved. I’ve been mounting my own medals, plus some friends, for a while now and used the clear thread to tie the medals down but I found it loosened off somehow no matter how I tied it. Is there a technique that is better for this type of thread? It’s a little difficult to follow what you’re doing as it’s sped up. Love your work though, many thanks.

    • @sleeque6809
      @sleeque6809 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Clear thread sucks for medals I’ve found. Just because of the thickness of the thread the tension sucks. Clear fishing line works like magic you can tighten it extremely tight and the medals won’t budge/

    • @robertstallard7836
      @robertstallard7836 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've just done mine.
      The trick with overlaps is to remember that the left hand medal ribbon (as you look at it) will be fully visible and the rest only partially visible.
      Therefore, temporarily lay the left ribbon in place on the backing board and measure how much board you have left, preferably using a small increment like millimetres.
      Divide the length of remaining backing board by the number of medals you have left, and that tells you how much of each remaining ribbon will be showing.
      I find it REALLY helps to mark these distances out with a ruler on a piece of paper that you lay the perspex over whilst you're doing a "dry-run" setup of the widths.
      Hope that helps.

    Whats the size of the backing board that you use?

    • @jaydenmonaghan3723
      @jaydenmonaghan3723  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Full-sized medal backing is always 75mm in height. For medals equal to or less than 5, the backing is the width of the ribbons butted edge to edge. For 6+ medal groups the width is determined by the number of medals. 6 = 165mm, 7 = 170mm, 8 = 175mm and so on. the measurements can be found in the Army Dress Manual which is downloadable for free
