Staying in a cabin in Shenandoah this week to get away from things and this song is bubbling to the top of mind. It's amazing how a song from 1966 can feel relevant in 2024. It makes me wonder how the songs I write will age and what tune years later may get the dust brushed off for a new batch of listeners. That's a special part of songwriting, the idea that a song can be like a seed.
I'm glad that Stephen Stills planted this one. Interesting that it's grown to be one that's often thought of as an anti war song, but he actually wrote it around the Sunset strip curfew riots, which where clashes between police and the youth in Hollywood.
