Nio and XPeng get all the hype in China, but gosh BYD is no joke. I've got to say that right now BYD is the biggest competition to Tesla in the world---, not Nio, not VW Group, not Hyundai Group, not XPeng, not MobileEye and not Rivian.

Only problem is if you charge it with DC power you'll kill the battery in no time. I wonder why there's no mention of this in this commercial?

The BYD T3 is based on the Nissan NV200 body. Check the dimensions, payload, main body panels. They are identical. The drive train is still completely different (with much better performance) than the e-NV200.

Definitely would buy this today if it had more range and space, and hopefully just one more seat. For this country it definitely needs a range more worthy of Australian distances (and also Australian crappy charging infrastructure) and a crew version would definitely have a few folk interested.

Same as in New Zealand, crappy charging infrastructures but pushing the people switch to EV.

Byd sold their latest ev platform to Toyota. So the next ev from Toyota is very likely based on byd's technology.

I want one. You can place a deposit for an Atto but not the T3 currently (March 2022). I will happily sell my two ICE vehicles and go EV... so fingers crossed this gets approved.

Pretty cool - if it’s $49k for a 50kwh battery, I wonder how the EA1 battery size will turn out (to achieve $35k)

    • @electricviking

I thought so too, but nextport has said it’ll have more range than the E2 (which had 35kwh and 47kwh battery pack variants).

Will they build any bigger model vans and make them available in Australia? I'm looking at a campervan and am hesitant about buying a diesel campervan.

Would be interested to learn more about the BYD blade battery, can you confirm whether it is a LFP or NCM chemistry and what the specs are in terms of energy density Wh/kg. You say they have 3,000 cycle life this seems impressive and if they can get 620 miles (1,000km) per charge as claimed for the BYD EA1 at the Shanghai Motor Show recently, the cars would be good for 3Million km. These statistics seem unbelievable and if true the media is seriously uninformed or the statistics are not true. I'd be interested in your comment and my further education.

They need an AWD version of this van. Here in Colombia a front wheel drive version is useless for the hills and poor quality roads.

@@electricviking because most specs are market specific, they don't want you to know too much on what is available on the headquarter website, deliberately make it difficult to compare the prices in different countries.

I think Sam BYD should call this van the Eco Mate for Australia, the EA1 for Australia should be the HB 5 abbreviated for Hatchback and 5 doors, if they do a faster version perhaps they could have the word "Performance"in a different colour underneath. The Tang should be called the SV 7 abbreviated for spacious vehicle with 7 seats, the standard Han sedan should be called the SS 8 abbreviated for sports sedan and 8 is lucky in Chinese culture and the performance version of the Han sedan should be the PV 8 abbreviated for performance vehicle and again 8 is lucky. I also think Australian buyers will not be to wrapped with Build Your Dreams spelt out on the back of their vehicles so perhaps a new futuristic BYD logo could be developed with a holographic panel that spells out Build Your Dreams within the new logo and placed on the back of the Australian vehicles instead. I can just hear people say " Look there goes a BYD HB5" as it speeds away lol.

Great video. Does anyone know what the average servicing cost on an EV will be vs a combustion engine?

    • @electricviking
      @electricviking  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Good question! A lot less than ICE! During 2019 Tesla switched from recommending yearly checkups to only recommending particular services on an as-needed basis.
The website now says that Teslas do not require regular maintenance, and it instead lists a few items that should be changed periodically. This is the main reason why Tesla maintenance costs are on the affordable end. Here are the requirements:
Cabin air filter: The filter should be changed every two years or every three years if it’s a High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter.
Tire rotation: Tesla recommends rotating the tires and balancing the alignment every 10,000 to 12,000 miles.
Brake fluid test: Tesla owners should have the brake fluid tested every two years and replaced as needed.
Air conditioning service: Tesla recommends servicing the air conditioning every two to six years, depending on the model.
Winter care: Drivers in cold-weather regions should clean and lubricate their car’s brake calipers every 12 months or 12,500 miles.

After the vehicle's useful life the battery pack will be removed for use as a home/business power pack.
An industry will develop to steal the vehicles for the batteries?
