This game looks really nice, it reminds me of a mix of Final Fantasy Tactics with a bit of another game I can't quite put my finger on. Any chance someone might be able to point me in the direction of the cheapest PC I can get to run the stuff on this game drive? I don't need 4K or 1080p perfection if that's going to make a difference in price. Thanks for making this video 😅👍
@TechDweeb - So I have a serious question, did you do a deep dive check on your PC after running the drive. Because when I purchased it and opened it on a VM; I noticed even just plugging it in it tried to make changes to Windows due to rootkit and trojans on the drive itself. It gets worse, yes, if you run any of those cracked PC games but in reality the number of keyloggers on it are scary in and of itself. Yes several of the warnings are for the cracks to break DRM like you said but there is much more malicious stuff on here than just that. There are even hidden files that are PW protected that can't be scanned. Just worried that you might have done some serious damage to your gaming PC if you ran it raw.
I could get this and never buy another gaming console for the rest of my life and be happy I think. I’m old enough now that I just want to play retro games most of the time anyway. What a time to be alive!
I totally agree with you about the modern systems and modern games. Emulation is not about piracy, it is about nostalgia, memories, good times and preserving and protecting the past.

So I found out that the reason the 3ds didn't have scrapped data on the front is is because... they are all in zip files. Apparently, in the previous version of the drive, when everything was under Hyperspin, the front end was able to access the files from inside the zip folder including the scrapped data. RetroBat will unzip the archive for you and prompt if you would like to leave the extracted file. So if you want you can leave the games zipped, and then it will just unzip as you need to. I also chose Lime3DS as the Emulator to use in Retrobat for 3DS files. Citra version on the Kinhank is very outdated and I couldn't get it to update, also it's deprecated.

Yup! A 4 player cabinet is just 4 usb inputs that need to be accounted for. It's likely not an issue with the retroarch systems, but for other stuff you may need to map the controls. Easy to do, shouldn't take long.

Serious question to anyone who deleted the playnight folder, did it affect the performance of the hard drive in any way? Did it just remove the playnight option on the front end screen and did everything else runs fine? I'm looking to delete it but i just want to make sure nothing else will be affected. Ordered mine a little over 1 month ago, seems I got lucky I got this updated version then. When I got it I was confused when the boot and menu stuff did not look like the previous video. Got mine for $185 and came with a Western Digital HDD.
For PC Games, it would have been cool if it had eXo DOS, which is almost all the DOS games ever. There's some real timeless classics there that has yet ever to be matched like Heart Of Darkness. This would keep in line with the Retro theme of the setup. Also eXo DOS wouldnt even take up half of that space of the 1TB space from the deleted PC stuff. Possibly opening up more PC games from the earlier Windows days which you cant buy anymore
🙂 agree but i think the chinese are selling mainly the games that buyers want, but yeah all the DOS games would be kinda cool too for its own hard drive

Something like this would be what I'd choose: amzn.to/4ceAK0X If you were okay with playing MOST stuff on here (but maybe the hardest PS3 and Xbox 360 games would not perform 100%) then this would be the choice: amzn.to/3A7uyuo

questions: Can you essentially connect this to a legion go, connect the legion go to a TV and run the Kinhank front end? I'm thinking the legion go should be able to run ps3 etc right? I agree with you. As a guy who tinkered with emulation on steam deck and legion go here and there, I the process very time consuming. So this hard drive can be the answer for me since I mostly game at home or a hotel when i travel? I got handhelds mainly for that remote situation where I can play on the go with the same game and saves I had on the couch. And I always wanted to play retro 3ds and psp on a big screen. So this should work right? Can i can always take the hard drive on travel. Thoughts?
I'm coming to this late, but I'll try asking. Do these games have the cheat codes/Action Replay/hacks/Game Shark etc etc feature? Also, what are the chances they will make a SSD version of this? I still have all my old games and systems since Nintendo (And I fear when I get access to them again, the games may have disk/cartridge rot or become warped from being kept in a non-airconditioned room), but one thing I appreciate is I still have the cheat devices. For example, I like to play Xenogears every couple of year to remember the story/game. But, unlike when I was young and had summer/xmas breaks, I don't have the time to grind levels. Or in other games, try for hours to do a timed achievement to unlock a cheat (example Goldeneye 64). I just want to replay the game for the fun, nostalgia, or the story.
I think it would be a struggle for it. I have a 3070 and I get stutters here and there. But maybe with some configuration it would be somewhat playable. I could be wrong tho.

What I like about Launch Box above ES/RetroBat is the ability to add custom consoles. I can add Famicom by typing the name I want to use for the console, point it to a separate ROMs folder with Famicom games and tell it to scrape from there. AFAIK, you cannot do that in ES/RetroBat. Famicom and Super Famicom go into the NES/SNES folders respectively. Launchbox can get tricky when trying to keep size down of scrapped artwork. Makes no sense to have gigobytes of art work for a collection only a few hundred megobytes in size.
@@theoatmilkman3128 np. I added Last Armageddon for PC Engine CD and Z.O.E. The 2nd Runner Special Edition (Europe. Never heard of it before), and others that way. If you put text in parenthesis, it will mark that text in yellow. It has games with text in yellow in between parenthesis that denotes the region or stuff like if it's translated (It's just text. It can say anything). If you wanted your additions to stay uniform with the rest of the games, you may want to add their region label in parenthesis, or text saying they're translated if applicable. Also, you'll want to make a "screenscraper fr" account so you can "scrape" proper metadata for the games you add. It gives them proper representation, such as preview images, video gameplay, and instruction manuals (Not all games always get the same metadata all across the board, but most do). You'd hav to open up the EmulationStation options, and add your screenscraper username and password so the app recognizes your account.
Awesome video! I’m new to emulating and am interested in this, few questions though. (1st) If there isn’t a game that’s on the list can it be added manually? Yup! A 4 player cabinet is just 4 usb inputs that need to be accounted for. It's likely not an issue with the retroarch systems, but for other stuff you may need to map the controls. Easy to do, shouldn't take long.
I did buy this from your earlier video. I'm not much of a video game player, though. It's just nice to walk down memory lane once in a while and I do think it's worth the money. The pirated stuff doesn't bother me, but I also wouldn't play them anyway. It was the retro collection I wanted.
Is the Games library any different than the original version?
Any of these preconfigured drives that would work with a Mac?
Is there a guide anywhere that shows you how to flash the last year 12 TB drive to run this new front end?
There is also a 100000+ games 12tb hdd from kinhank instead of the 86000+ one mentioned here but it only has hyperspin to boot.
Serious question to anyone who deleted the playnight folder, did it affect the performance of the hard drive in any way? Did it just remove the playnight option on the front end screen and did everything else runs fine? I'm looking to delete it but i just want to make sure nothing else will be affected. I'm the noob demographic this is target for so any help would be great.
Nope, no improved performance, but it didn't affect anything negatively. I ended up adding on a bunch more Xbox 360 and DOS roms to fill the space.
copy what your going to play onto a new hard drive or SSD
Ordered mine a little over 1 month ago, seems I got lucky I got this updated version then. When I got it I was confused when the boot and menu stuff did not look like the previous video. Got mine for $185 and came with a Western Digital HDD.
congrats 🎅☃💿📀
Hi,
Can the retro shooter lightgun be used with this harddrive?
Thanks for the reply.
Hey, I think batocera connects to the modern light gun hardware - just throwing it out there because I didn't see any other reply yet. There are other vids from other makers that verify this, so dig around to make sure if you like but if nothing else the dolphin bar can be hacked like crazy too so no reason you can't enjoy them! Happy gamin brah!
@@nightsquats Ok. Thanks.
How much of a difference between this build and the previous kinhank 12tb drive? Would the newer build be worth buying?
Hi, what budget mini pc would you recommend to buy to play everything on this? I would only use the mini pc to play the games on tv. Thanks in advance for the reply.
Something like this would be what I'd choose: amzn.to/4ceAK0X
If you were okay with playing MOST stuff on here (but maybe the hardest PS3 and Xbox 360 games would not perform 100%) then this would be the choice: amzn.to/3A7uyuo
@@TechDweeb Thanks.
Amazing video, thanks for making it. I think it's an amazing value and would love to get it, but sadly, 300 bucks is just too much, life is too damn expensive these days. Will make an effort to save for it, though :)
It’s on sale half price on the link in the description through October 7th!!!
Still on Ali express for $155
Where is the amazon link for the updated version 12tb with retrobat?
Can’t find it on Amazon. Only aliexpress. It’s safe if that’s what you’re worried about. I’ve bought a few things from that website with no issues (long transit time though! 1 month+)
I would NEVER use this on any system connected to the internet young lad. Great review TD.
Is just a drive, delete the folder indicated and you're safe.
You can always simply use another OS.
@@qchtohere8636 An alternate OS is exactly what I do.
Just run your antivirus it's that simple mines was clean
These 5 in 1 newer versions are also selling on AliExpress for around $185. Is there a reason they are not linked to? Am I missing something?
Amazon is more expensive they take out percentage so they have to higher the price to make up the difference
You mentioned the gmtec k8, Would a K6 be good enough to run ps3 and Xbox 360 stuff?
Yup! The performance on the k6 will be almost the same as the k8.
Dang, I got the older version, and even bought another drive and enclosure to clone it to just in case, and I wish I had gotten this version with RetroBat. Dweeb, per your previous video on the subject, I set up a couple of Samsung SSDs and a GMKtec PC with RetroBat, and I love it!
Yeah that's the thing about emulation toys. There's always a new thing around the corner! :P
@@TechDweeb You got that right! Seems like a five or ten minute window to enjoy a new handheld before the next version comes out. RG40XXH PLUS in 3...2...1...
@@TechDweebI’m in the same boat. Any easy way to add retro bat? I’m finding hyperspin really is a bit much.
Also, anyone else having to e issue of the system not recognizing your controller? Because my laptop recognizes my Xbox controller perfectly. But the drive does not.
did you check the settings menu?
@@joemopar2716 Mine is from about 6 months ago or so...I'm assuming it's the older version.
Hey Tech Dweeb! I have a full blown arcade cabinet that's dedicated for emulation but it has a monitor for the marquee as well. And it has order style light guns like amtraks but I have send in and gun for IR as well that I've never hooked up if I wanted to use this drive to take advantage of the active marquee and let's say the sending light guns do you think it would be a hard thing to configure with a drive like this?
It would be no more different here than if you set the system up yourself. Yeah you'll have to configure it, but it'd be done the same way you did previously.
@@TechDweeb Thanks TD! I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Love your channel!
This would give me Choice Paralysis for sure...dang probably i will never leave my PC again ever !
I literally live amongst the amish, and my only internet option is to use my phone for hotspot.
This hard drive is AMAZING for people like me, who don't have the option to download their own roms.
Thanks for the review!
🙂 sure, its the perfect gift for children in poorer countries, simply copy the games to a gaming laptop and gift them the laptop and a controller and a mouse
I agree TechDweeb, ArtBook is the BEST EmulationStation theme.
Do you think the original ROG Ally would have enough power to run the higher end systems on this drive?
Yup!
questions: Can you essentially connect this to a legion go, connect the legion go to a TV and run the Kinhank front end? I'm thinking the legion go should be able to run ps3 etc right? I agree with you. As a guy who tinkered with emulation on steam deck and legion go here and there, I the process very time consuming. So this hard drive can be the answer for me since I mostly game at home or a hotel when i travel? I got handhelds mainly for that remote situation where I can play on the go with the same game and saves I had on the couch. And I always wanted to play retro 3ds and psp on a big screen. So this should work right? Can i can always take the hard drive on travel. Thoughts?
This thing is spam packed with tons of games. Such a huge rom library.
Would a 750 ti 2gb gpu be good enough for the switch and stuff
I think it would be a struggle for it. I have a 3070 and I get stutters here and there. But maybe with some configuration it would be somewhat playable. I could be wrong tho.
My question is, what you with so many emulation drives. Do you keep them all or give them away?
I've given several away. Several of them I've converted into video storage for my projects. The best ones I keep and customize and use.
@@TechDweeb when’s the next giveaway. I been looking buy one
just purchased this would you mind helping me with a couple questions ?
Did yours ship out yet? It’s been 5 days so far nothing for me
@@weebmatic yeah bro, mine took the whole two weeks , 14 days. Dont be worried just gotta have a little patience. I will say, when you do have it you need to adjust a lot of the controllers but not all of them. And i recommend using retrobat to start most of ur games.
@@nassbeajj1094 okay cool! I just got a notification saying it’s shipping soon so fingers crossed it doesn’t take 2 weeks. And cool! Thanks for the heads up. I’m super excited to play these games😭🙏

Too? It’s been on the same thing for 9 days
I just got mine Monday. Two weeks.
How well would these Roms and isos work with OLED steam deck? Will PS3 work or is it iffy
PS3 is pretty darn good on the deck. You'd be able to play almost every game on here without issue if you installed the emulators on your deck.
@@TechDweeb What about just plugging the hdd directly into the steam deck?
Would that work? Would the controls be mapped correctly? etc
You have a deck and I can't find an answer to this anywhere and it would be great to finally get an answer on this as if it does work, and is plug n play on the deck then ill be buying both!
Thx for any help man! :-)
Maybe a dumb question, but can u use 4 controllers for the roms that support it, from just 1 dongle (the little dongles that come with them) ?
What about ZX Spectrum games?
The other Hyperspins were missing MOST, the speccy has over 23,000 games.....
Does the pc keyboard work with Spectrum/Amiga/etc?
If im using one front end and do a save state will that save state work using another front end?
I’ve been planning for a while now to buy a mini PC for my living room to play everything. I saw you had a link for a mini pc but would you say that with the Beelink SER6 Mini PC W11 Pro, AMD Ryzen 9 I should be able to play everything from this hard drive smoothly? Also am I able to use any Bluetooth controllers?
Whats the best controller to use? I plan to buy mini pc to play in tv
I have a 1060 mini with 6gb video ram and 16 gb ram and gen 1 ryzen 7…will I be able to play the high end games and systems? If so this is very tempting!
Hard to say. You may struggle with the harder to run PS3 and Xbox 360, but you might be fine. You're right on the edge for the high end stuff, but you'll be fine with everything from gamecube and earlier.
Anyone know the best one of these that focuses on having the best and biggest libraries for everything up to PS2 gen? I just got a new Dell i5 laptop with 16gb ram, and im thinking of getting one. Id love whatever has the most complete ps1/gamecube/ps2 library. Some 90s- early 00s PC games would be big bonus too. This one is kid of expensive and has a ton of things a I cant run.
@TechDweeb, does this drive have NHL 2003 from EA Sports on the PS2 and Gamecube? Thanks!
How do you set up and map retro controllers?
Can you play games with 2 or more players?
Hey Mr.Dweeb I love your videos, I’m looking for a pocketable handheld with some decent performance. Should I get a rg405m, rg cube, or do you think I should just wait for a new device? Thanks!
Does it have game manuals of older systems?
Hate to be that guy but as soon as you throw in dedicated I'm lost
What would be the cheapest recommended compooper or mini compooper that can fit into the modest gaming option and play everything?
Um thanks
Guess I'm getting it better now, even if you get a mini compooper than compooper needs a separate dedicated gpu attached to it and at that point nothing really cheap about it
Is there a way to put everything back into hyperspin? I kinda liked the setup better
What do you plan to fill the 1TB of space with?
Hey techdweeb I got a berlink ser 6 max with a ryzen 9 6900hx, will I be able to run some higher end stuffz? Thus druve looks better then the last one, the new ui is so clean
Yup! You should be good for almost everything on this drive. MAYBE the hardest to run PS3 and 360 games will give you some trouble, but I doubt it.
@@TechDweeb thx Mr.Dweeb🖐👍
Hey @TechDweeb, love your content. Have you run any scans on this drive?
I'd love to know your process for checking them when you get them.

Excellent video ! Problem is --way too many of questionable quality !! Why are you saying --compooper !!! You are funny !!! You do have the best opinions !!! Love your funny words -- like - sneaky peeky !!!
Would you say the newer one has the same emulation library or updated since the one from say, 2 years ago? Pretty sure my 12TB didn't have all Wii games on it,.
Question, are you able to log into RetroAchievements on it?
Finally got mine! Anyone know how to make it stop blacking out your second monitor when you launch the core . Exe?
Would this work with an Xbox Series S or Series X? Thinking of getting that instead of a mini PC for emulation
What is the best mini pc for this unit
Your Mom looks lovely in those pictures!
Could this run off a Xbox series x or does it have to be a pc, wish we could see a list of the games they have for each system.
What are the chances of getting an outdates version of the drive if I do should I return it and buy. A new one?
Is Lost Odyssey or Marna Carta 2 for 360 on this?
The one from amazon
Does it have all the switch games from the newer version?
Plz halp
no it does not, only has 20 some odd games in it, get the newer one from Kinhank's website 5 in 1
What I like about Launch Box above ES/RetroBat is the ability to add custom consoles.
Mine drives tomorrow, I was wondering how much space would be freed up by deleting the pc stuff. Thanks. :)
12:00
he meant to say 12:oo minute timeline in this video
I tried looking to see if they had a list of games on their website, but to no avail would you happen to know if they have Dark Cloud 2 on there ?
I own this drive, and just now checked. It's not on there, but you could always add it yourself.
@@DovahZeux i didn't think about that I might just do that, thank you very much and I appreciate you for looking
And (2nd) when deleting the playnite pirated games, does it interfere with anything? I went to the website and they said not to delete anything so I’m wondering how it’s working for you since you did.
So i bought the mini pc and the harddrive should it be a plug and play now when i get it?
@@JoshStewartmakesmusic you have to install sone stuff like directx unless you have them already, takes like 2 min, they are all in a install folder

I've been wrestling with either purchasing this or the retro pocket 4 pro. I ended up doing the rp4 pro. My hard drives are starting to pile up to be honest
🙂 yup me too, planning on buying a few 20TB Hard Drives and reducing the number of drives
Worth noting Launchbox and hyperdrive need windows so you'll need a to use Emulation Station or another front end if you're penguin/fruit based

Ok...but where do I get one of these compooper's?
Would it be possible/easy to copy roms off of this and put them on a handheld like the rg406v? (I’m totally new to this world)
Wonder what Initial D games come with it...
Picked up one of these to have copies of all the stuff I grew up with. I too could do without the switch and PC stuff. Wish I knew you reviewed the updated version, I would’ve used your promo code.
I have a 4tb Retrobeast that makes good use of the 4tb space but it is a pain to setup when you change to an other pc. If i didn't have the the retrobeast i would have bought this.
