Hi Roman, I'm a New Yorker. I love watching other people's opinions of where/when to shoot. You and Joe Allam really capture Manhattan the way I see it.
I do recommend a couple of things. Fall is the best time to come here. The colors are vivid, along with the leaves, and the weather is perfect. Queens is an underrated place and a street photographer's dream, since it's so culturally diverse, and you can really get that working class industrial feel in places like Flushing (NYC's 2nd Chinatown), Jackson Heights, Astoria/LIC, etc.
Obviously Brooklyn has Williamsburg, but you can get a lot of Brownstone shots in Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope, Clinton and Boerum Hills, even Bed Stuy. Go deeper into Brooklyn on the F, and then it starts to feel more like Queens.
In Manhattan, both the Upper West Side and Upper East Side have different characteristics and plenty of places to eat. There's Central Park West (Ghostbusters Building, Tavern on the Green, Museum of Natural History steps). Museum Mile on the East Side has the Met Museum steps, Guggenheim, etc. Even further up, you can get remnants of old Harlem, Washington Heights, etc.
I know I mentioned a lot, but definitely come back since there's even more untapped places to shoot.

glad you mentioned queens, I'm going out there in a few weeks and that's definitely an area i want to capture. a more local feel away from the usual manhattan

    Video Summary:
00:52 DAY 1: Lower Manhattan, Chinatown, Manhattan Bridge
    - Financial District (Wall St)
    - Oculus (Miday for sunlight coming through, Night
    - Brooklyn Bridge (Go early, for sunrise, later in the day filled with tourist)
    - DUMBO (Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass)
    - Head towards Chinatown/Start of Manhattan Bridge and take pictures over fence through cutouts on fence (70-200mm)
    - Once it dark, head for Chinatown when the night lights up
    - If you have time, go to oculus again at night when lights turn on (less people, you can isolate objects)
    - Daytime Advice: Follow the light, staying in the shadows will be blue/dark, keep moving around. If it’s an overcast/cloudy day, light will be more uniform.
07:35 DAY 2: Williamsburg Bridge, Midtown, Times Square
    - Walk towards start of WB Bridge (has raw, industrial aspect to it, and there are geometrical patterns there, trains run down the middle, you can get symmetrical view of trains down the middle running underneath you
    - After you cross the bridge, you can see bridge in the distance, you can get a shot from middle of the street (be careful not to put yourself in danger of cars) Ideal lens here is the 70-200 for compression
    - Head to Marsie station for more photo opportunities
    - Head back to Midtown on the Subway and on the way back you’ll see a backdrop of the city, and you can silhouette a person sitting next to window
    - Spend the rest of the day exploring midtown (5th Ave, 6th Ave, Rockefeller Center, walk across walk down, walk across walk down, etc. etc.)
    - Finish the day in times square, you want to be there when its dark so you can use all the lights to your advanctage
    10:32 DAY 3: Vessel/ High Line/ Meatpacking District
    - Hudson Yards (The Vessel and The Edge) | You can climb The Vessel, Take pictures on it or with it, be creative (Important Note: Make reservations for either attraction in advance)
    - Use wide angle lens, and then use telephoto lens and create smaller compositions
    - Walk to the High Line (area where the trains Stop)
    - Walk back toward the vessel, walk towards the vessel on the highline and get off there onto the street level and take pictures under that structure that supports the highline. In that part of the structure you’ll get some nice compositions (Silhouttes, shadows, light)
    - Get back up on the highline, and walk it all the way to the end (when you look to your sides, you can get great photos of the streets running underneath. You can zoom in and get more ideal smaller compositions (70-200mm+)
    - When you get off highline, you’ll be in Meat Packing District (Quieter, warmer and polished look) Explore the area, nice and relaxing way to end the trip (24-50mm will be useful here) You can then go to Greenwich village for similar vibe
    - If you have energy, go to Pier 40 and walk around the bottom of the Island
    Extra Locations:
    - Central Park and areas around it
    - Work areas with Steam/Smoke Stacks for interesting pictures (winter thing)
    More Advice:
    - Summer is so hot and humid, and winter can be EXTREMELY cold (Dress appropriately; bring gloves)
    My Places/Suggestions:
    - Bleeker St Subway Station (Hexagon Lights)
    - Doyers St (Manhattan Chinatown)
    - Seaport District towards the water
    - Explore The Dumbo area under the bridge! It's so beautiful, and you can get some nice shots by the water. Theres also a carousel there too that lights up
    - If you're in Chinatown and hungry, go Nyonya Malaysian Cuisine (I made a video on it) Great food, service, and prices! (Bring Cash)
Thank you so much Roman! I’m beyond grateful for this video, and I can’t express the gratitude I feel! You provided so much value on NYC photography in 18 minutes. It feels like I should be paying for this, haha!
One last thing, this video needs more views! I recommend you to add tags to the video and edit the description for keywords, it's only a matter of time before this video takes off like crazy, especially once things start to settle down! You can use Vid IQ

I’m confused with your Day 1. You want to start in BB early, cross it, then Dumbo, then go cross again BB to Oculus midday? Then go back cross again BB to start at Manhattan Bridge on DUMBO side? And so on…

    • @giovannymarquez4103
      @giovannymarquez4103 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@kimjexziel To clarify the confusion, I put midday in parenthesis to communicate that you have the option of either skipping or going back to the oculus at midday to get a different look to your photos compared to the photos you’ll get there early in the morning, as the sunlight at midday will give your photos a different look.

    • @kimjexziel
      @kimjexziel 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@giovannymarquez4103 thanks for clarifying. However, Roman’s guide is inaccurate. He didn’t go to DUMBO that day as it will be time consuming. You will need to cross BB 2x if you follow that path.

    • @giovannymarquez4103
      @giovannymarquez4103 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@kimjexzielThe BB and Manhattan Bridge are right next to each other on the Brooklyn Side. So after you’re done with Dumbo, you could walk towards the Manhattan Bridge entrance to end up back in Manhattan, specifically Chinatown.

Central Park is a great place to photograph, particularly around the Bethesda Fountain. From there it is easy to get to the Upper West Side and the Hudson River around the 79th Street Boat Basin which is great for watching people in the summer and utilizing light off the Hudson, particularly in the late afternoon. Lincoln Center is close by and it has some very classic modern art structures in the Metropolitan Opera House and the NY Philharmonic buildings. I also like photographing in the area around the Metropolitan Museum and the Guggenheim Museum along Fifth Avenue.

Central Park is a mandatory stop for any photographer. If you want to shoot the entire park figure at least a day. If you thing is shooting candid shots of people you'll love Bethesda Fountain in the warm weather. You can practice your wedding photography there as so many couples take photos there. Also lots of engagements take place there. Spend some time in the northern part of the park particularly the "Ravine" area.

If you are into landscape photography, The Bronx, Westchester County, and further north have some breathtaking places to photograph like the upper and lower Hudson Valley. The same can be said about Queen and Brooklyn and so on. Just about every video I see here regarding NYC and photography all say and photograph the same thing. Anyway, next time you come here or recommend to anyone to travel here don't forget, there are 5 borrows with plenty top see and photograph.

It's "buroughs," bruh. This video was a game plan for travelers coming to shoot street in NYC over a 3-day visit. People new to the City find it overwhelming and wanted this guidance from Roman to help us navigate/map out the historically famous hot spots. You can make us a video for the second visit, Firestorm, and branching into landscape. But we still have UES, UWS, Harlem, East/West Village, etc. Give it a minute, oh seasoned one.

first off I'm not your "Bruh", I didn't disrespect you, don't do it to me, second thank you for the correction. Now, my comment wasn't a dig on video. I agree that NYC can be overwhelming, I've lived here almost all my life. I was just pointing out that there is more to this state than Manhattan.

Definitely go early for sunrise, because when the fog surrounds the bridge, it makes it look like a bridge in Heaven.

2024. NYC changed and lots NOT for the better (street, subway crime), but still lots of sights.
The 'agenda' did not include, Tribeca, Soho, Lower East Side, some uptown even Harlem. Other Brooklyn areas may be of interest to some.
    N.B.:
Vessel closed. (Jumpers). I will need to go up to 'Edge' observation deck at 30 Hudson Yards tower. Other observations decks my be of interest; WTC1, 30 Rock, OneVanderbilt, Empire State!.
Meat Packing area, nice places to add -on the Hudson are Pier 57 for foodies and great views from its roof. Little Island nearby too. One or both are 'musts'. Perhaps Chelsea Piers a few block N on the river may be of interest.
I like DUMBO and Brooklyn Bridge Park. One may walk over the bridge. Or subway to A-C t0o High St. or 2-3 to Clark. OR take NY Waterways Ferry (see their website for routes) over to a pier near the park, and excellent way to go especially in nice weather.
