Both the Yamaha Pianica P-37 and Suzuki Melodion M-37 are solid choices--you can never go wrong with either of them. However, I prefer the M-37 because of its warmer tone, and it's my primary "daily driver."

Great comparison, thanks! The one I most liked was the M-37C. I bought one and loved it, after not being satisfied with the Yamaha P-37D, which I found a little strident. Have you ever played the newer model, Yamaha P-37E? If so, what were you impressions? Are you able to record a video with it?

Hi George, I would like to learn how to improvise using a melodica. Do you give improvisation lessons over skype? If not can you advise on a tutorial or method? Cheers

I don't play as fast as you, but this is a good review. The Suzuki 37 in my book is the Cadillac of Melodicas. Closest thing to the original Claviettas at an affordable price. I have two for backup and one that I play regularly in pubic.

UGH! I don't know which one to get!!! 😩
They all sound good but different in a way, and the Suzuki seemed smoother or something but the prices are very different....
    *HELP!* 😅

Anyone know any melodica's with exceptionally quiet key action? I find my yamaha p37d to have quite clunky action and it slightly bugs me at times.

What sequence of chords were you thinking of when you improvised to try and test the melodicas?

I want one for classical, jazz, and gospel. The Yamaha sound okay but I think the Suzuki pro wins the prize.

I like both the Suzuki M37C and Yamaha P37D, they are both good, Suzuki buzzes a Little more as the case vibrates a Little more, the Yamaha has a Cleaner sound. It should be noted, that for All keyboards of this style there is Break in period, time that is needed, the reeds and Keys will get better after break in. Yamaha has their Newest Pianica Out the P37E.

what are the polyphonic abilities of those instruments? how many keys can i press on each of them and hear them all at once, at equal volume? i am asking only about those under 100 dollars, i wouldn't buy suzuki pro, i play melodicas only in the bed, i play piano's and accordions and electronic keyboards and synths when i get out of the bed.

Realistically it's possible to play 4 or 5 notes together. Certainly sufficient for a melody with a chord accompaniment.
