Welcome to Germany!!!! And yes the Macan is a very important car for Porsche and their future - all indicates that it is a great platform and will be a success.
I have a loaded Macan 4 on order, with delivery in a month. Couple of thoughts. The European hitch doesn’t seem compatible with attaching a bike rack to the receiver; fortunately in the US it will be a 2” receiver. I got the 20” wheels. One site I found said 20 vs 22 wheels don’t affect sport driving much, but of course 20” will help a lot with range. Mine will be a “grocery getter,” but I’ve had several Porsche’s before and like sportier driving when my wife isn’t in the car. I ordered the 4 before the 4S became available; I think the 4 S will be the most desirable model and best “value” (value in the Porsche, not real, world). Yet the 4.9 0-60 time is as fast as my 2016 Porsche Cayenne GTS, and faster than most ICE cars. We have gotten spoiled with sub-4 second BEV’s. Porsche also has a history of publishing conservative times; I look forward to seeing actual 0-60 times on this vehicle. I have an Audi Etron for “old guy, comfort” cruising, and soon this Porsche. The common feature in both the Audi and Porsche is lack of a tablet screen. I personally despise vehicles that look like they glued an iPad onto the dash. I get why they put a tablet on the dash: they can provide a bigger screen, and it doesn’t take much effort to integrate it into the dash (because it isn’t). For me, it is a butt-ugly design choice. YMMV.
25:15 this is something even a Ford Kuga (Ford Escape in the US) can do here in Europe😂 Really funny to get to know all these small differences between the US and Europe which is also why I watch a lot of yours and Kyle's videos!
Porsche should create sub-brand offering car with the same performance, and range, but with simple interior, and HALF of the price. That would give them chance to survive the revolution.
I agree with the need for true one pedal driving. Had it in my MYP and I miss it in my Taycan. Lifting off the accelerator before a turn mimics a downshift in an ICE manual. Also, this should have launched in the US with NACS.
Florida will need the AWD to get away from the many hurricanes as they come through each year as they track thru. But it is a badge thing, something Tesla doesn't have. Like comparing say a Mercedes to a Ford in many ways. The Macan EV seems to be about a similar size to the 2024 Kona roughly at least just from your video. I suspect it's US car regulations that don't allow the fold out tow hitch something outside of Porsche's control. Thanks Dave...look forward to your driving impressions once the embargo lifts next week.
I like the looks of the Porsche Toucan, oops I meant Taycan, better than the Mock Can, maybe even better than the look of most Teslas, but as someone with limited money, I think I'll keep my Model Y, which I bought not for the looks, but for the safety, facility, fun, comfort, utility and hoards of other reasons. Looks were way down on my list, but I think I made out OK.
There’s no point comparing it to the Model Y. It’s not even in the same price range. It’s almost the same price as a Model X. This is way too overpriced. And I say this as someone who owns a Porsche.
The Macan deploys extensive use of regen that blends to friction brakes when touching the brake pedal I am told. So brake life should be extended well beyond an ICE Macan’s typical life span. I don’t think the decision to not offer one pedal driving is to allow dealers make more $ doing brake jobs; but rather this is a conscious decision in design/driving functionality Perhaps you are right though Either way, thanks for watching!
We drove the rear wheel drive Taycan and my wife called it a slug. Our sales person said, you need a dual motor Taycan, but he didn’t have any demonstrators available. Our next test drive was a Lucid GT which had great acceleration.
"feeling of family", you mean, like, the Mafia? Regardless, the Taycan is a beautiful car. Hope you love the time in the Macan, but regardless, I think you'd be trading down if you swapped Kathy's car for one, at least in respect to road tripping and ADAS.
Respect your viewpoint and agree that is their main purpose as well. I just happen to believe that cars are so much more than machines designed to go from point A to point B. Some agree with me and some don’t That’s what makes the world go round… Thanks for watching!
While I get what you are saying about shared platforms spoiling the exclusivity parade, this is no 924 IMHO. Porsche engineers left their mark on this car well enough to differentiate and proudly display the Porsche badge of honor
I hope so, but so far V4 is just a different dispenser - no change in voltage. I’m afraid that Elon has moved along to other things and that V4 will be just what we see now. Tesla is still putting in more V3 dispensers than V4s.
I would never buy an EV without regeneration. Regen extends brake life past 100K miles and reduces harmful brake dust. It a range extender in city driving too.
Me neither! To be clear, this car has awesome regen which I am told is invoked off pedal and through the brake. It does not however have one pedal driving which I hope they add through an OTA
@@outofspecdave1554 Very interesting. It sounds like you can coast by taking foot off accelerator and obtain regen by lightly pressing brake pedal. Maybe brakes are only engaged with a hard pedal push. I wonder if stopped via regen the Macan doesn’t creep.
2 important fails rule it out in my eyes - Porsche is a European company, they know what crap European roads throw up in the wet and yet there’s penny pinching with no rear screen wiper fitted. It’s been proved time and again that no matter how much wind tunnel testing shows how aerodynamic the design is that in the real world a rear wiper is needed - Ioniq5 got one at the 1st revision because despite what the engineers said users had to manually wash their rear screens on a wet day in Europe. 2nd fail - not even an option to have one pedal driving? These cars by their nature are going to spend a lot of time cruising city streets, missed opportunity to recoup last energy from braking but also it’s so much more pleasant to drive in one pedal mode (also called B mode) in town then just engage D out on the open autobahn or country roads Also I would sooner buy a used Taycan Cross Turismo or Sport Turismo - in my eyes the design is way better, low and sleek and not a jelly mould like Macan.
You can order a rear wiper in the US spec cars. Not sure about Europe. Even though the Macan does have quite a bit of regen which is activated through the brake pedal that has incredibly smooth seamless transition to the friction brakes, I agree that making the strategic decision to not offer the consumer one pedal driving is a miss Perhaps they will correct this through an OTA update
@@outofspecdave1554 We are seriously looking in to getting the Macan EV and could finally test drive it last week. My wife thought the throttle mapping was not aggressive enough, that you have to push the pedal way too far before it takes off, and the amount of off throttle re-gen is pathetic. Worse than I remember the Taycan first generation having. While I am sure you know how it drives on fun twisty roads, the day to day reality is that we will drive it in city traffic. Where the lack of re-gen is really making me wonder if we should go ahead with the car. Sure they could fix it with software, but I am not going to put a lot of my hard earned cash in to a hope that the software may one day be updated. The rear wiper is an option here in Europe too. And a must for me. Sadly you can't have the laminated glass with it but I'd take the wiper every day.
The old Macan was much better looking. The new one has no lines, just a blob of melted cheese. Choose your topping Audi or Porsche. I hope it looks better in person than on camera.

Dave in my hometown. Have a great time!
Hey Dave great video, do u know when they are coming up with a PHEV mecan with a 25kw battery?
when are they putting the nacs port in the macan?
I have to agree. This is the first time the EV looks miles better then the gas version.

EVs are turbo powered most of the time - wind turbines, natural gas turbines, hydroelectric generators, nuclear power stations
Steam turbines

I wonder Dave if it cost $35,000 would it be as impressive? Looks a lot like a Genesis GV-60.
The GV-60 is pretty sweet. We owned a performance. This to me is the real deal and next level though Just my opinion
I honestly hate one pedal driving
@@latuya8388 one pedal driving is hard to lose when you get used to it
Without 1 pedal drive you have to replace Porsche brakes. I own Porsche ice vehicles. 1 pedal drive saves that expense. Porsche wants the service.

My trade-in EQE 500 SUV lost 20K in value while I waited for this and since it's a 2024 it'll be last year's model in just three months
Why is there a Mercedes logo on the building behind you?
He is in Stuttgart Germany. Stuttgart is HQ for Mercedes Benz
There was a Mercedes dealership next to the Porsche dealership

Plenty more of that coming!

Im sorry, but this generation of Macan design looks like a Honda HRV...
It’s a bummer that the Macan is essentially a rebadged etron with some tweaks. Porsche should be doing their own thing

But when you back this Macan into the Tesla charging stall, you’ll get a max of just 125 KW.
True, but for an 800 volt car, it’s way better than what Lucid will pull which is less than 50 kW. Problem solved when V4’s are deployed

Kind of silly to call a electric car a turbo 😂
Kind of silly people don't understand that for Porsche, "Turbo" is a trim level denoting the top end faster one.
