    Wow. This guy has astonishing pronouncation. Not many can say that dreaded 'gy' properly. And that old Hungary brooch? Really kind of him to wear it. It's funny how americans see castles and forts as something extraordinary, while we just pass it with a shrug, saying 'I've seen thousands of castles like this.'

    Mikulás is mainly for kids so after a certain age don't expect any candy in your shoes (though sometimes adults participate just for fun).

    I like that Old Hungary badge. Also, not too many foreigners can pronounce Hungarian words.
    Well done for that.

    The Hunor-Magor story is a legend, the two guy representing two nations.
    Magor -> magyar
    According to our best knowlidge the hungarians started their great migration in the 5th century from the west side of the Ural mountain down to the Black sea and ~850 reached the Carpatian basin, occupied the land and 895 they settled in with Arpad as the leader.

    I loved your description. I would make a small correction if you allow me: the Statue of Liberty on Gellert Hill was indeed built during the communist dictatorship for the “Russian Delivery” from the Nazi occupation, however, Hungarians were never happy with the result of the delivery, because as an outcome we had live in a terrible dictatorship for 40 years. Of course the Nazis were not any better. The original statue used to be surrounded by a few soviet soldiers and after the regime change in 1989, they were removed. So the statue became just the symbol of freedom, as it had a somewhat neutral design; also, it was erected by a Hungarian sculptor, it wasn’t given by the Russians, so this connotation could be easily changed.

    I never understood what is so special about 'gy'. If you say, for example, "duke" in english, you must pronounce pretty much the same tone (a 'gy') at the beginning of the word.

    We do have AC in shops and malls and most of the buildings in Budapest. We don't just walk into a building and say it's much better without feeling it. xD

    Guys, there are different ways to keep your house reasonably cool during the summer unless you stay in in a flat in those prefab concrete blocks of flats.

    I had to giggle a little about the air conditioner because my grandmother and mother believed and we never had air conditioner. The air conditioner was not added in my mother's house when I was 40.

    In the 5th century, the Huns had a city here where Budapest stands, and even 400 years before, the town of Aquincum was built here by the Romans. So arguably it's 2000 years old.

    Dude describes the Parthian shot, feel sorta bad he didn't know about it. But I love these videos even though they are from a missionary perspective. Even though I might not agree with what is being done, I do love the outcome that produces these very good videos with at least the opinions of people who spent a good length of time in the region. I deeply appreciate these

    The Liberty Statue's design was originally made for the memorial of István Horthy and would in that role have featured a human child instead of the palm leaf that was a Soviet addition.

    Hunnians + Mag(y/h)arians = Hun+garians, so technically the English (as well as the original Latin) term is melted the both nations into one. ;)

    A lot of people dont have AC's in Hungary beacuse they cant afford it, not beacuse of its negative effects on health.
    Most corporate offices have AC, and more and more homes as well every year.

    The reason Hungary 🇭🇺 has so many ethnicities is because of Atilla the Hun. The Huns were comprised of slavic Gepid “Germanic tribe” maygars which were probably what Atilla’s ethnicity was and turcik not necessarily Turkish but Turkic peoples. And after atilla died some of the Asians went to khazastan and the Slavic and Germanic as well as Magyar peoples dwelt in Hungary 🇭🇺 for the most part. Until Genghis Khan cane along.
