I was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Toronto but my parents were from Budapest (Mom) and Kecskemet (Dad). I have visited Budapest twice and Kecskemet and Csevharaszt once but have never actually lived in Hungary. I can cook Hungarian foods because I learned at my mother's elbow growing up and I'm fluent in Hungarian! Believe it or not I have 5 siblings who can't cook the food and really don't speak the language although they understand a little bit. You are way more conversant in Hungarian than they are! Your pronunciation is very good... and I'm really impressed! I'm proud of my Hungarian heritage and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your beautiful description of Magyarország and her people... Hungarians everywhere will love you for that! And yes! it makes you family! :) Köszönöm szépen minden kedves dolgot, amit mondott egy szívből kedves országról.
Always love to see some people from other nations that truly apreciate good people in this part of europe. Greetings to my neighbors in Hungary from Romania with much love!
I can relate to the "moment vs pancake" thing heavily. I was at a sushi place and I meant to say "szeretnék kérni a számlát" but I instead said "szeretnék kérni a számát" so it was a little awkward when I said that to the waitress, especially in front of my girlfriend
I'm Hungarian live in canada. My homesick never goes away. Thank you for this beautiful video. We always welcome good people like you in our hearts and homes.
LOL, hahaha, "Budapest, the main... um the capitol..." - That's a clear sign of thinking in Hungarian! The mirror translation of the Hungarian word for "capitol" is "main city" :D
Nice to see a young man with international experience speaking in superlatives of my country. Such open-minded souls shall always be welcome in Hungary. Thank you for your honest video.
We literally have festivals and celebration days for everything. Wine festival Lecsó festival Paprika festival Falu nap (Village day) *City name* napok ( City days) Majális (May 1st celebration and usually like a fun fair) And like a thousand more but just of the top of my head. I think it's a really big part of our culture but it's also an excuse to get drunk
Székesfehérvár gets its name from time past long ago when the Hungarian kings governed from this city. Székes= throne, from where the king brings his important decisions. Fehérvár=white castle. So the way I would explain the name of Székesfehérvár; the White Castle of the Throne.
Szia Levi! Én még ennél meghatóbb videót életemben nem láttam! Látszik, hogy a szívedből szólsz! Ezért a szívűnkhöz szóltál! Lehet érezni a szeretet a szavaidban! NAGYON örülök neki, hogy ennyire szeretsz minket! Mi is nagyon szeretünk téged és kedves családodat! Nagyon szépen beszélsz magyarul! Köszönöm szépen! (most a felkiáltójel jót jelent 😄) Szép napot kívánok! 👋
Canadian/Italian here, 3 years living in Hungary.................. compared to what my family and I are used too with the Canadian/Italian culture to Hungarian it is very different. Possibly in Budapest the people may or may not be as what the person described them as,in this video, but in the small little village we live the people are far from what we are used to. I think the best way to describe the Hungarian people is they are like beautiful peacock when they extend the feathers but with cactus thorns on the outside, very difficult to get close too without getting pricked. Over time, I have come to understand the history of the beautiful country and how big it once was and how it was taken from them 70% of their beautiful country taken from them after WWII. Can you imagine. So sad 😞 Hungary is very!very! beautiful country. Great astonishing weather. Dry heat, dry winters, not like Canadian weather it may be 21 outside with 100% humidity. Once a person has the chance of meeting a Hungarian and really listening to them with the amazing stories they pridefully share, once we pass the cactus thorns they really are amazing people. Thank you for the experience. ☺️☺️
The Hungarian Anthem's first verse translates to something like this: God, bless the Hungarian With joy and fullness Give them a protecting hand When they fight enemies Who has hurt from poor fate, Give them a happy year These people had suffered For the past and the future. This is a really sad anthem, compared to most of the other anthems. The anthem is not about being proud of what we achived, and how great we are. It's about that hungary was a lot of times the country that was used by others. The Austrian, the Turkish and a lot of people fought Hungary, we took a lot of fights, and we lost so much. As you said the anthem is more of a prayer, to finally let us be, and not to take more of our land and population. Hungary is really deep and less patriotic than a lot other countries. We don't wear Red-White-Green flags on our clothes.(Except for football fans, but they usually do it for their team than their country). We have a lot of patriotic songs. And most of them are really depressing, and more of a hoping styled. And the other half is something not much of people listen to and i don't neither. Story Time We had a really patriotic teacher, and we were you know the 2003-2005 generation kids, and no one listens to hungarian songs. And she was like no, we're going to listen to hungarian songs, even if you don't like them. Let's say her teaching practics weren't much useful, and her existence was pain for us. And there was me who reestablished communism in a christian school.
Oh my glory. I am Hungarian and never heard that kind words from other nation. Thank you so much, you touched my soul. Hope you will experience more beatifull things in Hungary, but I have to mention that, the kindness of the Hungarians is always the same what they get from a person, in your case, from you. So you should thank for yourself too. (Sorry for my English) Thanks again! It was a pleasure to watch that video.
Szia Levi! Köszönjük ezt a csodálatos videót, és hogy megosztottad másikkal is az élményeidet. Nagyon megható volt hallgatni. Ismeretlenül is nagy szeretettel köszöntelek Magyarországról! Isten áldjon! Vigyázz Magadra! Várunk vissza! :)
19:25 How dare you make me feel so emotional TwT. This is literally the kindness thing a non-hungarian ever told me. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay here :)
dude, this made my day :) you seem like a great person and it feels so good to see that you are genuinely interested in Hungary and you are very prepared about us :) the part where you spoke hungarian sent chills down my spine :) thank you for this emotionally upbeat video, brother :)
As a hungarian i never tought that we are seen like that. Im one who always wanted to get away from Hungary. Kind of feeling touched by the whole vid now and starting to see what are the good things even i enjoy...
It is emotionally nice and very compassionate to see us in your eyes us friendly people who are always willing to help.God take care about you and your family until end of times, see you hopefully soon us I member of our family.
I was curious about the english subtitles so I took a look at it. I know that it is automatically generated but when he says "rakottkrumpli" ( a hungarian dish ), the subtitle says "raw code crumply" :DDDD By the way your pronounciation is great so keep it up :)
I really enjoyed your video. Its great that you are so open to new experiences and learning about new cultures. I was born in Budapest but my family escaped when i was 8 years old during the communist era. I have lived in Australia for the last 40 years. I lived in Budapest for a year when i was 23. I partied so hard with people i met that i had to come home to rest. I have the best memories of Hungary which always makes me smile. The older i get the more i miss the culture, my grandmothers palinka, langos, csokis palacsinta, walking down the Korut with my grandad, and Ferencvaros !! Love to you all !!!!

Soo the meaning behind easter tradition is: its the time when young men would go propose to the women. They go to the girl they like tell a poem that is usually about a flower getting dry and needing to be watered. The girl then answers if she refuses or acceps the watering. IF she acceps the splash happens. Then the girl gives an egg to the man. The eggs represent life so it either means the girls gives her life aka wants to be married, it means she want to hive the man new life aka an ofspring aka start a family.
