- In this almost eerie interview, actor Robert Englund explains to Emmy Award winning Entertainment Journalist Reba Merrill, about being taken over by his character, Freddy Krueger.
After this interview, he killed the interviewer
That wouldn't surprise me. I guess that's what you call a slice 'em, and dice 'em kind of an interview!
Loi
😂
Lol I hope so
Robert Englund to Freddy Kruger is like Arnold Schwarzenegger to The Terminator, there’s nobody else that can play that character. It’s a part of them that never goes away! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾😁😁😁😁😁
Agree avid 80s movie 🎥 goer🍿80s ruled
Actually nah lol but he was great
Sylvester Stallone is to Rocky
Any giant guy could play terminator. The terminator movies just suck with casting. Every single one after 2 has been horrible choices after horrible choices. Old Arnold just doesn't work. He's not intimidating anymore or as buff. Scary old people can work but Arnold isn't scary, just foreign.
@Succulant Cranberry Well don’t you sound bitter. First off Arnold was chosen by James Cameron himself to play the roll after meeting him. Secondly the roll catapulted him to stardom and it opened the door for him to make action based films including True Lies with Cameron again. It’s not just about being big and if you paid attention you would know that.
His normal voice in that makeup sounds 100 times creepier than the "enhanced" voice.
Always said Robert's voice/crazy cackle and laugh is way creepier halfway through the original ANOES until they added the Freddy voice reverb right around just before Rod got killed by Freddy.
@@bobbyscalchi4013 for sure! i always thought so too. especially when he said, "tina. watch this." but the best one was when he whispered, "tina" and it sounded like he was in the room with her. just before she goes outside to check.
😂😂😂😂
The first movie it was his actual voice there was no changing it then as I remember then in the later films his voice got more enhanced
Agree gave me chills just now
Robert is so cool and different lol. He is charasmatic and funny 😂 He really brought Freddy to life!!
I was working at a department store and I sold Robert englund a tie one day one of the nicest people anyone could ever meet..
@@chapingaryjr until you fall asleep in Elm Street
Robert Englund is a cool guy. You can see that he is passionate about the characters he plays, mainly Freddy, because he appreciates his fans, so he does it for them. That is one of the purposes of being an actor. There is no way anyone else’s hand could fill that glove, and no way they could wear that fedora as well as Robert can. He is brilliant.
Robert Englund is the true master of horror, and the only true Freddy! Love the man!
It's so odd hearing Robert talk in his sweet calm voice while in Freddy makeup lol
That's how I stopped being afraid of him when I saw a similar interview YEARS ago with Robert in full Freddy makeup and costume talking in his normal subdued voice like this interview.
The Dream Warrior's Freddy makeup was always the scariest imo. It's so strange to see him just shooting the shit and soft spoken lol
@Boba Fett "You are all my children now"!
Freddy Krueger. That line is so possessive, powerful, controlling, and it's his way to let them know that there is no escape from him. He's going to take their souls, one by one...and that there's always room for more!
Reminds me of somebody else I know-Satan!
I’d say Nightmare 2 is the best makeup, followed by Nightmare 1.
@@lunch77 I'm going with, in this distinct order, 2, 1, 3, 4, and Freddy Vs. Jason. The makeup for Freddy from Nightmares 5&6 were like...no! Freddy looks like an almost friendly version of a child murderer in both, with 5 being where he almost looks...well... white in some of the picture stills, and 6? Give me a break! Was the makeup artist for Freddy's Dead: The "Final" Nightmare on drugs or something? Seriously?!? Freddy looked like a goofy clown kind of killer in that movie! We won't even begin to discuss Wes Craven's New Nightmare, or the 2010 Re-Boot of the original Nightmare On Elm Street! However (& yeah-I'm probably going to be in the minority on this movie!), but, for what he was given to work with, Jackie Earle Haley did what I consider to be a great job, playing the part of Freddy Krueger. In fact, at least vocally. He sounds much more threatening, with that voice of his!
@@ronaldshank7589 I agree with your exact order and literally everything you said.
@@lunch77 Thanks, man. Admittedly, the first 4 of these movies were my favorites, with it being almost a tie between the first and third movies. 3, 1, 4, & 2, in that particular order, are my personal lineup on this movie series. After that, It's Nightmare On Elm Street 2010, Freddy Vs. Jason, and Nightmare On Elm Street 5: The Dream Child. Then, to finish off the list, it's Wes Craven's New Nightmare, then Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare.
Isn't it strange that Freddy Vs. Jason, and Nightmare On Elm Street 2010 are quite possibly the most hated movies in this series, and yet, they made the most money?
Go figure.
happy 74th birthday robert barton englund !!!!
Thank you!!
He is still alive?!
Thats dope
No one else can do Freddy better. A legend! I watched the new one without him and I was sad.
Robert IS Freddy.
this is why Robert deserves inspirational credit for the idea behind New Nightmare
This is literally the entire concept of New Nightmare so to speak
He does. Everyone knows Englund as Freddie is the franchise. That's why New Nightmare is the proper conclusion the franchise. Jason vs Freddie was a cool but unnecessary concept and wasn't a great film and the remake without him was uninspired and lifeless minus Katie Cassidy's performance as the beginning of the film.
Weird watching him so chill lol
The legend of Freddy is an amazing tribute to the skill of Robert as an actor
Freddy without Robert is like cereal without the milk!!
I wish we could get 1 more Freddy movie with Robert Englund. The guy is apart of a legendary character and is on the Mount Rushmore of horror characters.
I wish Hollywood would humanize Freddy & show us his back story on why he became evil. Like show him being a model citizen but an action of someone blackmailing him & then accusing him of being a child molester & then burning him before going to trial made him get revenge on the town that burned him alive.
I don’t want him to be born evil!!
No, some individuals are pure evil. Over the course of the sequels starting with Dream Warriors, they tell the history of Fred Kreuger. He was born because his mother who was a nun was accidently locked up in an insane asylum and raped by a thousand maniacs. She gave him up for adoption and changed her name. His father was abusive and Freddie begin to enjoy the pain as a child. Got married and had a daughter back in the 1950s while molesting the children in the neighborhood. His daughter watched him kill her mother and got him arrested leading to the parents in the neighborhood learning that he molested their children. To protect his daughter from him, she was placed in foster care and her name was changed. When Fred got off on a technicality, they parents of the molested children got together and killed him and burned him to death. Freddie emerges from hell as a dream entity and gets his revenge by killing the children of the parents who murdered him. He was a pedophile in real life who gets off on murdering teenagers as a demonic entity.
That's the more interesting story than trying to sanctify a pedophile. The moral argument was made in the original by Nancy after she learns the truth from her mom yet Freddie still killed her mother, her boyfriend, and her friends.
I perfer the original Halloween movies minus the third one and up to Halloween: H20. I pretend Resurrection doesn't exist. The Rob Zombie remake of turning Michael into a child from a broken home with an abusive stepfather, a stripper for a mom, a slutty stepsister, being bully to go to a psych ward with an unsophisticated, foul mouth psychiatrist who gets killed in the first movie and grows up to still his overalls from a Rick James parody to stalk and kill the most annoying half sister in history was a good concept in theory. You understood why he killed them and kept the stripper mom alive. But the interesting part of the original was why would a middle class six year old kid in a two parent household in the surburb suddenly go nuts and kill his sister and her boyfriend. I know the answer is because she wouldn't take him trick or treating but that's the interesting story. The mystery of why yet not necessarily unraveling it. Halloween 4 was a good sequel like Dream Warriors because they touch on it. Dream Child 5, Freddie's dead 6, Halloween 5 and 6 fell apart because they spent too much time to find plausible reasons why the evil exist instead of accepting evil exists and finding ways to defeat it like the original Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street did.
I HATE THAT PEOPLE GET OLD!!! I WISH ROBERT ENGLUND COULD BE YOUNG AND LIVE FOREVER!!!!! Same for Sophia Loren. 😢 (*if only I could have met her when she was 24 years old in Milan.)
I think Robert's made the right choice to hang up Freddy's glove. He did himself and his character proud, he will always be the one and only Freddy Kruger in my nightmares lol...and of course 'A Nightmare on Elm Street 1984' will truly be my favourite movie of them all!
I'm actually dressing up as Freddy in honor of Robert England.😊 In my eyes he's the only Freddy period.
@@sierragoodenough0713that's so awesome you did that. What a nod to Robert , truly deserved!
Still more terrifying than the 2010 remake
He’s so good at acting that i dont know if he’s being serious or not 😭
Y’know roasting yourself is kind of a mood and a half
Such a class act. Especially when he says he builds trust with the girls before action when Freddy has to brutalize them.
This is the only footage of Freddy talking about his interest in molesting on film. Robert has the balls, yet the movies toned it down. He knows how to make a creep a creep if you just let him go for it.
There is no other actor that could play Freddy like Robert. He became Freddy once the make up was on !!
Freddy and Robby are a perfect comic duo
Killer combo ! 👉🤚🔪🔪🔪🔪🩸
@@billyen "Now no one sleeps"! -Freddy Krueger, from Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master.
Total method acting. Guy is brilliant
So even he’s not doing Krueger anymore, he’s still basically him
Wow. What honesty. Face it humans we all have a little Freddie in us..
Watch it again, only picture Quentin Tarantino behind the make-up. It's literally him to a T
Bruh...you right 😳
Hahaha true
Best horror character ever!!!!
Love your beard.
For me it's a tie between Freddy and Ash
Robert is the only one who can play Freddy they will never be no one like him
Freddy is the best of the movie slashers, because he has personality. And Robert is a master playing the role.
That laugh chills
A living legend right here ladies and gentlemen
Seeing the character but hearing the actor is just weird, lol…it’s like seeing Palpatine joking around or Pennywise softly petting a puppy 🤯
Pennywise softly petting a puppy 😭😭😂.
It's like some footage of the Dracula played by Gary Oldman, Gary is in full makeup and suit of Dracula, but he's having a little argument with Francis Ford Coppola, it looks funny to see a man in a normal casual suit speaking with a guy straight out of the 15th century.
Robert Englund really does surrender to The Spirit of Freddy.
This is the part three makeup. It's actually really good.
Yeah it is. The part 4 make up is my personal favorite. Well and part 2 also!
yea i can tell because of how the makeup around the lips is dark like it is in Freddy's revenge
I'm crying about this I love you
Love Charles Bernstein's iconic "Nightmare" theme.
Omg he did freddys laugh and I'm not 100% sure if he meant to or not....like he said Robert is gone half way through putting on the makeup.....😍😍😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰🥰
Made me so happy!
That laugh makes me tingle all over
he's kind of scary with the normal face in a Freddy makeup, I don't know why
Englund is an artist.
My favorite movie character of all time.
Robert can do that laugh perfectly & his horror grin. Sent chills up my spine. His make up is awesome
❤ A reformed Freddy at his parole hearing, all set to give positive inspiring talks at schools
Wow I never heard his normal voice before
I thought it was deeper lol
They digitally alter his voice in post production.
They slowed his voice down to make it deeper (he's talked about that before). Just try watching this video at 0.5 speed and you'll hear it when he starts speaking and laughing.
That man can do one of the best characters on television and that’s being Freddy Krueger,I’ve grown up watching every nightmare movie on television and for my birthday my mother got me the nightmare movie collection on video tapes all wrapped up in Freddy Krueger attire,I’ll never forget at how mom saw how happy I was when she gave me that present.Of course I love other horror movie villains such as Michael Myers,PinHead,LeatherFace,Chucky,Candyman,Jigsaw movie series,Hostel franchise,Alien franchise. And so much more to love and to cherish.
Dude the laugh is everything 😊
Freddy always rules
Love your beard.
This is why no one else will ever pull off Freddy, unless they go in a wild new direction.
his eye looks blue here, but thought rob had green eye
I love that as Robert gets older Freddy gets more detailed and ages with Robert. Also while getting older he is getting better at bringing out Freddys charter
The fact he laughs like that for real is TERRIFYING!!! 😂😂😂
Freddy was great to watch in the 80s
He needs to do one more Freddy K for all-time sakes.
Let him take on Mike Meyers this time around.
I lost many nights of sleep over his movies. Freddy rocks!
Happy Birthday Robert!
When was this recorded?
Freddy Rules
Love his laugh in the begginning 😂
*Chills* through my body ... 😳 ... *genius.* 👍🏻
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I believe that
Sounds super beautiful ❤️❤️
He's so soft and tender without the voice effect
I really like his normal voice I wish they kept it in the first film
Don't worry, Robert Englund didn't actually molest anyone. He was in costume, so technically it was Freddy.
This is awesome as it is creepy. Robert is the man.
1:01 God I hope Twitter and cancel culture don't find this!
I mean…he didn’t really say anything that bad. Phrased in a creepy way, but he’s also slipping in and out of character as Freddy. All he actually said was that he’s joking around with the girls he’s gotta be creeping on so they can trust he’s not gonna go FULL creep under the guise of just acting.
@5th_cellar You know this generation don't care about context. They just hear trigger words and then they GO! 🤷🏿♂️
@@luvaboy772 Still, I’d like to think given the context, the fact no one’s ever said a word against him and that this is pretty old that maybe people can apply some nuance 🤷🏼♀️
@5th_cellar People try to come for Robert Englund or Freddy Krueger I'm on somebody muthafucking ass! 🙅🏿♂️😆🤣😂
Robert Englund said he would come back as Freddy if they do Freddy vs Michael. Make it happen!!!
Freddy Mercury vs. Michael Jackson???
Demonic possession. What a shock
That...was awesome
It's not *almost* eerie.
It *is* eerie.😧
Takes over, not him anymore ...sounds like demonic possession
Weird to see him casual in his Freddy get up 🤔
That laugh 😂❤ 0:11
In all likelyhood he's referring to a demon as "Freddy"
Nobody could play this character then Robert Englund, there’s certain characters that are meant to be. Hugh Jackman Wolverine, Ryan as deadpool, Robert as Freddy. Tobey as Spider-Man, RDJ as Ironman Chris as cap America and Chris as Thor
This is both creepy and awesome! All hail the King🙇♂️
Robert Englund is the GOAT
This is why New Nightmare would’ve been so much better had it been centered around Englund and not Craven. Some shit where Englund is being haunted by Krueger and people write it off as an actor’s insanity.
“Elaine where do u keep the bourbon?” “I said where do you keep the fu*^ing bourbon!” -FK.
This is so pro wrestling.
This is the softest voice of Freddy, I've ever heard!! 😳
This is one of the advantages of prosthetics and makeup over CGI. A good talent will lose themselves in the role. They see themselves in the mirror and BECOME the character, which usually leads to a more realistic performance. It also works well for the co-stars, as they don't have to fake fear.
Love u freddy
*Shout Outs to New Line and Midway*
Actors classically channeling spirits to give them ability on set.
One of my favorites
The Horror LEGEND!!!
I thought he would say: Because You're Then Left With Me!! in Freddy voice. XP
I love ❤️ freddy krueger big fan
so cool
Wonder if this is partially what inspired Wes Craven to write New Nightmare...
Living legend
this Guy is scary, really scary omg the laugh
i could really see Robert playing The Joker
It’s like those memes abt the spirit of Shaggy taking over Matthew Lillard
No can do Freddy... Only one of a kind Robert Englund can.
If the new scream is great and successful, hand the keys over to the directors for one FINAL nightmare with Robert. I know he said he was done, but was he really that physical in the first movie??
I would love for hum to come back one more time
if JEH wasnt the current freddy, i'd love to see Ed O'Neill play him lol
I always thought Ed O'Neill would make a great Freddy too.
Eh…NO, Peg.
Ironically, Robert was a guest star on Married With Children on one episode where he played the devil
Ed O’Neill would make a fantastic Freddy Krueger
This is an inspiration to Wes Cravens New Nightmare
This could be the next horror of movie for Freddy Robert and Freddy split personality and that would be freaking awesome wouldn't it oh my God that would be so cool to have happened that you know Freddy has entered the world again except instead of Heather he's going after Robert now and Robert has to find a way to finally end Freddy's terror and rang.
So what Freddy does basically is he kills all the actors that were in all the movies including Heather and Kristen and all them and then in the final battle it's Freddy and Robert once and for all.
Cool
