“Underrated” is so tired a bit lazy frankly. He has major parts in huge feature films, he is more successful than 99.9% of working actors. How about “it’s nice to see David as the lead in his own film, he always brings the goods.”

@@KingZedusPrime2009TyrentKaiju yeah sorry about that, but with a spoiler filled video, I’d like everyone to be able to discuss the film in detail in the comments.
If you like this, may I suggest an obscure old BBC Halloween special called "Ghostwatch". It is set in the UK in nearly the same era as this movie and is framed as real paranormal investigation show that goes horribly wrong. It even used real BBC snews commentators and presenters for versimilitude and was so effective it created a War of the Worlds style panic across the country as people thought it was real. Due to the legal fallout of the resulting panic, the show never got a proper release but if you hunt around on-line, you should be able to find it. P.S. if you watch it, always look in the background.
Can also recommend. I saw it on the original airing when I was 9. Bits of it are a bit dated but tbh it works really well as a horror movie, regardless of the framing.
I loved how it switched from "found footage" to " movie footage" in between breaks. Im assuming these black and white sections are not part of the docu as the video quality is way too modern for that. Love how it shows the neglect of the guests and the situation they gradually put themselves in as they progress the show. Even my gf loved this movie despite the fact that the generally only likes the more gory horror movies. Really well done movie and I can't wait to see what these guys do next
I personally believe they didn’t have the budget to create ads in the breaks so they decided to say they found unseen behind the scenes footage. It stretches a bit of credibility maybe, but it doesn’t bother me one bit. Glad you and your gf liked it!
Thank you for explaining this film. I rented it a few weeks ago and having been a young woman in the 1970s, I can assure you that the sets, hairstyles, and costumes were spot-on. This is a terrifying movie, and it was well done.
I was noticing that! I’ve been disappointed by most portrayals of the 70s being noticeably inaccurate, but this film looks spot on. They’ve even got the proper shades of the hideous colors popular at the time.
I noticed a ghost very faintly appear in one of the early shots of the film. It's in the scene where Christou is successfully talking to the two ladies about Edmond. It appears next to Jack after a tiny glitch can be heard. It was very subtle and I'm surprised I caught it so props to anyone else who saw that.
I didn't notice that actually! I picked up the one of Madeleine on the back of Lilly's head during the possession demonstration. I love when you can watch a movie multiple times and pick up on several new things!
Nixon was a fucking nerd. Dude was deeply insecure and had a perpetual chip on his shoulder for having to work so hard to be liked by people around him. He woulda taken it up the ass from a guy in an furry owl suit if that meant he would be part of the in-group.
I agree with you, the switch out of dated footage of the 'Master' to a modern tome didnt betray the premise, rather it presented a state of lucidity for us the audience thst helped us feel those moments WITH Jack.
My favourite part are the last word of Jack: "Dreamer, here. Awake", the same words used by the sceptic, said desperately, perhaps delusionally hoping to end his nightmare. I would love to hear your thoughts about it.
That’s a part that I didn’t touch on, but only noticed on a subsequent rewatch. As you say, it’s him attempting to escape his Hell by waking himself up. Backing that up is when his wife confronts him and says ‘Is that another thing you’ve managed to forget?’, Jack is blinking quite violently, almost as though if he blinks hard enough, he’ll wake himself up. Damn, it’s been about 6 weeks since I did this video and I’m still getting comments of people finding more details! What an awesome film!
@@GetFramedyou did a good job explaining and going through this movie. Like others have commented, this video showed up in my feed. And now, thanks to your excellent analysis, I need to watch this movie! I like the style it was in, and its progression. Can’t wait to see the whole movie since your breakdown of it was enough to get me interested 👌🏻
David Dastmalchian was born for this role. This is what I’d consider a career defining performance. However, I was incredibly confused on their choice of "demonic entity". If they'd done a little research they'd have found that Ipos wouldve made much more sense than Abraxas.
Yes! Went on a massive James Randy binge after my third viewing of this film. I’m disappointed that I didn’t mention it in my video, because Carmichael Haig is absolutely based off of him.
@mash2481 I’ve decided to pin this comment if you don’t mind, because the most liked comment on this video has a spoiler in it, just in case anyone clicks on this video and hasn’t seen the film. I’ve gotten a couple of comments saying this.
Lol didn't realize someone had the same thought 😂 because some ppl don't know but Randy was a gay man ♂️ one who knew how to respect and be respected aside from Yuri Geller lol

@@GetFramed A lot of people are too materialistic to appreciate this kind of horror. Those types of people think only body/shock horror is horror, which is a very narrow kperception of horror, in my mind. These people often don't believe in the soul so they aren't scared by anything involving the soul and the spiritual.
@@celladoor_uk agreed! Nothing wrong with someone not finding it scary, but I find the stuff that plays with your mind the scariest over gore or shock value.
@GetFramed I totally agree, man. You're right. There's nothing wrong with not finding it scary at all, but I do think it may indicate that those people only accept the existence of the material world. I suppose materialistic is a bit if a loaded term but it's the only one I could think of to make my point. I loved this video, man. You have found a new subscribers in me!!!
@@celladoor_uk Personally, I respect all others beliefs even though I’ve never believed in anything more than the material world, but it’s films like this that make you think, and that’s what’s awesome about it! Thanks so much for the sub too!
I think the ending sequence is supposed to be another hypnotic hallucination like the scene with Carmichael, hence all the spirals at the beginning of the sequence. That’s why we’re seeing what Jack does before being snapped out
But it’s the demon doing the hypnotism instead. The audience gets hypnotized in the first run with Carmichael, and then the demon shows that it can do it too, but at a much larger scale.
TH-cam recommended this video out of the blue. Your first few sentences encouraged me to pause and go find it. David Dastmalchian being the star sealed the deal, I had to see it. Now I'm back and really enjoyed your video essay on it. The only thing I don't think you touched on was Lilly saying she knows Jack from the tall trees (the Grove). There were hints earlier that the Abraxus cult were charged with kidnappings. I did wonder if Lilly was part of the Grove's creepy gatherings, facilitated by the cult's human trafficking services, and that her inner demon remembers what she's blocked out. Those are the dark places my mind went anyway. It might have just been the demon saying he knows Jack was at the Grove gatherings. You watched 3 times? Does Lilly in her human form also mention Jack in the tall trees?
Awesome that you watched the film and came back to this, glad you enjoyed hearing my perspective on it. From my interpretation, Lilly herself never said anything about Jack at the ‘tall trees’, that was all the demon that was inside of her (Abraxas). Lilly says some creepy things (‘you’re going to be very famous after tonight Jack’), but I don’t believe that Lilly mentioned the Grove herself. Interesting ideas though, that does certainly give food for thought! Such an interesting film and the kidnapping stuff went straight over my head. Maybe a fourth watch will bring new things into light!
@@GetFramedBut on a subtextual level, can you really separate Lily and the demon? Possession tends to have connotations of dual identity, like conscious/subconscious. You could very easily read the demon as the suppressed rage of an abused child.
I think you could have also talked about how woman seem to play a part in this movie; its a MENS only club, he killed his wife, the person he exploits in the show is a young girl! my personal take on this is that the movie is probably pointing out the fact that powerful men exploit woman and girls frequently and why that is.
My girlfriend and i went to see this in theaters. The theater was virtually empty. Honestly it was an amazing experience. I hope more horror films take inspiration from unique plots like this. It really had us thinking and feeling some type of way as we walked out.
@@joshisaliv3591 absolutely right. The reason I mentioned it ‘breaking its own illusion’ was just because it was a criticism that some people seemed to have of the film. Some people said it was breaking the found footage style, making the film less effective as a whole. I completely disagree with that take and agree with yours.
Having been a teenager during the 70s, all the scary feelings from that time came back, watching your video. I haven’t seen the movie but good job creeping me out.
"Catholocism being challened in art." The Exorcist was a massive boost for the RCC. They probably didn't like the movie, but it scared people back into the arms of the Church. The Omen, too, but maybe not explicitly the Catholic Church. The Exorcist showed the Catholics as being right, The Omen did, too, but not to the same extent. Later films, especially in the 80s, started showing Catholic Priests as powerless against evil, but in the early 70s, horror films show the church as being protectors against evil.
Good point! I think that this fear was also seen in music. The senate had plenty of hearings about how Satanism was influencing the youth. Records were played backwards and plenty of defendants tried the “Devil made me do it” defense.
@NationalHooeyLeague The "Satanic panic" was kind of justified. Look into all of the satanic motivated crimes at the time. I think today, given our leaders, it may be more true now than ever. Look up the finders. There are many, many more.
I loved that it really takes some inspiration from analog horror. Especially during the end bits where the whole video gets corrupted before going into the dream sequence.
I'm so glad that movie is getting the appreciation it deserves. Up until around 10 years ago, it was reviled for not having Michael Myers in it, and being just weird. It is the best one. The robotic doppelgangers are so strange, they're straight out of Westworld or The 6 Million Dollar Man. Then the toy company having megaliths from Stonehenge somehow powering microchips in masks to make snakes and bugs come out of kids is just jaw-dropping. I think it's a great update to the kind of things people accused witches of a few hundred years earlier. The anthology model for Halloween would have been better than a bunch of boring sequels about Michael Myers. He's kind of the original silent unkillable masked slasher, but why not try something more interesting.
Halloween without Michael is like Jaws without a shark. Ergo retarded. Go ahead and make your movie, but don’t pass it off as part of franchise without the main character 😂
@@serpenticide_555 YES!!! But that guy was pretty evil as well so he doesn't really have room to talk. Had it come from anyone else it'd have shown dr. phil for who he is.
I don't know why I got recommended this video 6 months afterwards but I'm glad to have it! This your insight was wonderful and I love how you talked about the real world circumstances that surrounded the setting of the film! I do also want to talk about how the Devil fulfilled Jack's desires even as he completely fucked him over. Obviously, the ratings of this live airing were high. People love a spectacle, no matter how grotesque. But long after the fact, Night Owls is a macabre staple of TV history. The fact that this documentary, the framing device of the first half of this film, is even made is proof of that. So Jack will never fear irrelevancy. His legacy is forever maintained after this fateful night. But yes, to reiterate thank you for the video! And I'm glad that someone like you is giving some exposure to what I consider a hidden horror gem of the past year!
Thanks for the kind words! And I'm so happy that over 300,000 people have seen me championing this movie, I want to shine as big a light on it as possible because its that fuckin good! And you're spot on. The fact that in the world of this film, Jack Delroy's show has become an unforgettable part of television history, shows that his wishes were granted. Lilly even says at one point in the show "I have a feeling that you'll be very, very famous soon Mr Delroy", foreshadowing that he will never be forgotten.
@@arenomusic thank you! I’m so glad this turned out so well, because it is quite a daunting task, but I had a lot of fun! I’ll be sure to try and do a couple more of these by the end of the year.
Solid job. Subscriber earned. You are very articulate with your words and I find your view on American television in the 70’s to be quite entertaining. It’s obvious you have a great passion for films and I hope you continue to make good content!
Came back a week later, had to watch the movie first. Great video covering this film, glad it popped up on my feed. Fantastic movie too! David Dastmalchian is becoming one of my favorite actors and this is another excellent performance from him.
So glad you took my advice and watched the film first, and thanks for coming back too! I’m really glad you enjoyed both the film and the video. Dastmalchian is excellent, from smaller roles in Oppenheimer and The Boogeyman to larger roles like this, it’s great to see him excel.
I am so mad at myself for not going with my gut and seeing this movie in theatres like I originally wanted. I got swayed by hearing a few people say that its a bad movie and very boring. They were so incredibly wrong, this is definitely a top 3 favorite horror movie of mine now. Thanks to your intro for convincing me to go check it out.
No problem! I would actually argue that the film is more effective at home than in the cinema, it makes it feel more like you have found something that you shouldn’t be watching. Makes it more of a personal experience rather than experiencing it with a crowd, although it was great fun watching in a packed theatre!
One of my favorite parts of the movie was Jack begging us the audience to turn off the tv to end his hell. I thought the movie would just end there honestly and I wouldn’t have been mad since I love when we are made to sit with the fact that all the horror, drama, and everything is only happening for our amusement. But when the movie kept going and did give a great and satisfying ending. (The dagger was making me so nervous once it was set down and I was confused when it ended up not being used by Lily and thought it was just another false flag but then the movie got me)
Also me and my bf were confused about why there wasn’t more info on the grove and then I found out it’s fucking real and that made me like it so much more
The movie felt unique in a way to where it set the standard for its own category. It also reminded me of some aspects of the Conjuring franchise like the interview and presentation moments shown.
Like others in this comment section, TH-cam randomly recommended me this video essay and i had to pause it and go see the film before continuing this vid. Well I'm back and I am glad that i got to watch this one stille in theaters. Most interesting and fun to watch horror film I have seen since hereditary. Thanks YT gods for the random recommendation
While people have been bringing up "Ghostwatch" (which is true) it also reminds me just a bit of a movie called "Noroi the Curse" a Japanese film, which has a somewhat similar narrative device, not of being a tv episode, but like a documentary, which also looks very much like an actual documentary from the time. While it is slightly different in style I think you should check it out if you liked this movie. Also great essay and thanks for convincing me to finally check this movie out before finishing the video
I absolutely ADORE this film. Saw it three times in the theater and plan to watch it again soon. It’s so unique and well executed, and I love little details I noticed on my second and third watches. After my first tome seeing it, my first thought was, I need to see it again now that I know what happens. I took a friend to it the next night, and as soon as the credits rolled he looked at me and said, Well damn I need to see it again now that I know what happens.
I took the end as not what was in Jack’s head but what the demon was broadcasting for him and everyone to see. That’s why the last scene with the demon is it staring at the camera with it zooming in. I also think the modern look is because the viewer (us) is essentially being hypnotized in present day through the video.
This movie totally stuck with me. Only issue I had with it are the ai images that appeared during the breaks. I really wish they’d commissioned an artist, you can still get uncanny art that isn’t ai 😭
I normally don't just subscribe to a channel unless I've watched multiple videos and have plans to watch more...but you did such a great job here I'm absolutely subscribing!!! Well done
Thanks so much! These video essays won’t be nearly as frequent because of how long they take to make but I will definitely do more alongside my normal reviews.
glad this appeared on my feed or else i never would've heard of it. odd how the film's not getting the attention and appreciation it deserves. i don't watch movies made after 2010 but i found this movie really interesting and captivating, a minute into this video and i thought i HAVE to watch this. i especially was amazed by the accuracy of the 70s vibe it LITERALLY looks like it was made during that era! just wow!!
This is a brilliant mix of the Talk Show era and The late 70's (when I was a teen) new wave of Horror films ....It reminds me of the equally excellent (1992) british Horror mockumentary "Ghostwatch."
Interesting thoughts and I agree with much of what you say. However, drop the whole devil thing, this is classic trixter lore. The entire scenario was constructed by the trixter, the grove, the cult kidnapping Lily, her escape were all the machinations of the trixter. Everyone in the film recieves what they asked for, including the audience and you seeing the devil. No-one recieves what they truly want, including the trixter, as the footage is,sat on for decades and written off as a hoax. That's exactly how the paranormal is dealt with by mainstream media. They'll milk it for every last penny, however , as with "Finding Bigfoot" , the moment anything truly weird happens, the footage is suppressed. There's 2 documentaries where Bobo makes this claim and Renee, the shows sceptics, has left post the incident.
I didn't feel the 'in his head' sequence at the end broke the illusion, it was pretty clear that it was being broadcast. He even turns to the camera and tells people something like "if you're still watching, turn this off". For me, i thought the backstage scenes very clearly broke the illusion every time. There can be backstage cameras, but when not in use they'd be fixed in place and unfocused on the people we're seeing in the unintended take. I thought the backstage scenes were very poorly done and unfortunately dragged the movie down considerably. Pretty good movie overall but I felt the backstage scenes showed a surprising lack of care for realism.
This was a really interesting deep dive into the themes behind this movie. I missed all it all had connected together, until I watched this. While I was watching and listening to this, I was meditating on how people actually do make deals to gain more power, influence, money, sex, ect.. It really seems as if the people who get involved in making these sacrifices are doing it out of not knowing the demonic power behind these rituals. I really loved how David Dasmalchian's character seemed to repent of his actions near the end by pleading with the people at home to turn off their TV. It really seems as though he didn't really know what he was actually getting himself involved in with this ritual. And all of these rituals where large groups of people are involved in just seem to be practicing witchcraft, sacrificing, sorcery, ect. all seem to do this because they want something and they believe that their works will get them what they want. Religions and cults throughout the world seem to add works into their belief systems, which reminds me of 1 Corithians 1:25 KJV "Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weaknesses of God is stronger than men". I believe that religious cults (whether they are Christian, Satanic, Atheist, ect) band together because they think that they are smarter and stronger while they are all together. God still forgives them, but they just need to realize what they are doing wrong and repent of it (like David Dastmalchian's chararcter, or King David in the Old Testament, or the repentant thief on the cross in the New Testament). As a born-again believer in Jesus, Christ; I believe that only Jesus can save us and heal us from our sins; whether it is: foolishness, lust, greed, gluttony, blasphemy, pride, anger, murder, lying, ect.. I believe that Jesus, Christ is going to come back again to rightfully judge us of our sins and we need to confess them to Christ alone (and to anyone else who we had sinned against). To anyone reading this, God hates our sins, but He loved each and everyone of us enough to give us His son that whosoever believeth on him should have everlasting life. I hope that many of you will find Jesus, Christ as your savior. When you do, just beware of the wolves in sheep's clothing (churches who tell you that you can lose your salvation if your criticize the church leaders, theological doctrines, or building, ect..). May God bless you all
Thanks so much! I’m so happy to hear that it worked well! I’m not sure when I’ll do my next video essay like this because it took a lot of work to do but I’ll definitely try to do some more this year!
I'm glad I watched this movie before watching your analysis. That movie was amazing! I loved how it was a different take on found footage and demon possession (like you said). And I do agree with you the ending doesn't bother me. I also think it makes sense for the film. It definitely a very nuanced movie. I'll definitely rewatch again in the (near) future.
I don't know about you guys, but the movie gave me a bit of anxiety, especially the sacrifice scene. This video helped me decompress and come back to my senses, so thanks for that 👍
I was one of those people scratching my head going "what the hell just happened?" when I saw this, so this interpretation of the ending was nice to hear.
I was expecting a comment on the audience member with skeleton costume. Was he overseeing that the ritual takes place? He showed up at the ritual memory
@GetFramed I was waiting on you to make a comment on the audience specially that scary guy. Also I thought the host made just one deal with Braxis and his wife dying was the price. I'll have to rematch for the 4th time

Hinted that that was him going back to the Grove again. If you rewatch anytime soon come back and let me know what you think.

one of my favourite movies! i'm not so good with horror and jumpscares, so it's refreshing to have a movie i can actual watch and enjoy without hiding behind a pillow the entire time. i absolutely loved how this was filmed like a documentary, even if it lessens the found footage aspect, being a big fan of true crime documentaries also.
I really wanted to like this movie, because it had such a great set up to be a psychological thriller/horror masterpiece, but fell short. Would have been better if they made the demon, more subtle and less on the nose with supernatural effects. Especially in the end, with the demon showing its 'form' through the little girl. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then watch Nefarious, which came out last year and is way more creepy.
I could tell during his brief scene in The Dark Knight that it was supposed to be kind of a strong showing for a young actor. Glad to see hes still at it👍
The conflict between the psychic and the former stage magician-turned-professional skeptic is a reference to James Randi exposing Uri Gellar on Johnny Carson’s Tonight show. The Abraxas cult seems to be based loosely on Anton LaVey and his Church of Satan, which was also in the 1970s zeitgeist. The possessed girl and her doctor seem to allude to the subject of the TV movie Sybil, which was based on a real girl. As a lover of the 1970s, I really got a thrill from all the historical events and personages woven into the story in such a holistic way. Right down to something like the cartoon panel in the contextual montage at the opening, which is clearly meant to be from Mad Magazine (shown at 5:59 of this video).
@@GetFramed i started to feel like i was one of the people watching live at home and when he started yelling to turn off the tv im not gonna lie i considered it for a second 😅

Excellent video man! I really enjoyed this filo personally, I liked the twists and non-standard approach to a scary movie that it took. And as to your review specifically, I appreciate you speaking about the real world context that enhances the film. I wasn’t born yet to see the release and reception of the Exorcist (and never really watched or considered the cultural inportance of late-night TV) so I would’ve missed that entire layer of the film if you hadn’t put this video together.
Thanks heaps! I really found the historical context of the film fascinating, so I'm glad I was able to share some of that with you! Obviously I wasn't around then either, but I've always loved The Exorcist, and I could see the influences and parallels.
The reaction to this movie is so interesting to me, I seen it at a limited release mystery movie monday preview at my local theater and I didn’t care for it at all. I thought this movie would be just another average horror film that would go mostly unnoticed, neat to see I was wrong
Great video, but i feel like you may have glossed over Delroys wife's ghost being present in the studio throughout. I feel like in some way his wife was at least partially responsible for what happened to Jack at the end as a form of vengeance
That is true, I briefly mentioned at the end that his vengeful wife would be waiting for him when he died, but you are right. There were some moments when she flashed on screen, like during Lilly's possession scene, hinting that she did have something to do with it all. Good pick up!
@GetFramed if anything it just shows how layered and detailed this film is, and how multiple theories can be derived from it. Definitely one of the better recent horrors
I also thought this film was a masterpiece, but you can't really talk about it without talking about Ghostwatch, which was clearly the major inspirations for it.

Literally just finished this movie after learning about the Mr. Beast controversy with Jake. I don't think there is a better parallel in the sense of doing whatever it takes to succeed.
It's almost like we are the viewers or at least can imagine being in their place, in a sense we are all damned to Hell for witnessing a forbidden event.
I kinda want to see the aftermath, like the reaction of the people, the governement and law enforcement and the legacy that episode would go on to have in the eyes of people years later
That would be interesting! I'd say we didn't get to see it either due to budget constraints, or and artistic choice by the directors to allow us as the audience imagine the aftermath.

There's several scenes where you can see her faintly accompanying Jack, as if she's trying to warn him of his impending doom.

To be fair, Richard Nixon did think bohemian grove was, and i quote, "faggy".
Almost most certainly was 😂
This is a quote that tells you everything you need to know about both Nixon and Bohemian Grove
@@Gunnumn i think he said "It was the faggotiest goddamned thing you ever seen...."
Nixon was also responsible for creating the EPA. Totally unexpected.
It is my fav part too
David Dastmalchian was born for this role.

I see it as a parody of the average Reddit atheist. I say this as someone who is agnostic. lol
James randy is also gay

I did exactly the same thing!! Just coming back now to watch this review. Wow. What a unique movie!
@@caketinfairy awesome! Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
I kinda wondered if it might've been like Epstein...
That is 100% true. I hadn’t even thought of that. This is such a great film that there is so much to read into!

@@joshisaliv3591 absolutely right. The reason I mentioned it ‘breaking its own illusion’ was just because it was a criticism that some people seemed to have of the film. I dont think anyone captures uneasy anxiety like Mr. Dastmalchian
@@mikeestvanik He’s always done it so well. He was great in Prisoners, and even in The Boogeyman his character was very intense.
I was going to comment something similar. These movies are usually playing into the 'satanic panic' although not with that intention I think.
Good point! I think that this fear was also seen in music. The senate had plenty of hearings about how Satanism was influencing the youth. Records were played backwards and plenty of defendants tried the “Devil made me do it” defense.
Satan leads to God.
See who in the RCC carries the title of Lightbringer. It is 3 individuals.
@Peoe500Your mindset is playing out in real time right now. How are things going now that scary evil religion is gone? is it utopia?
@NationalHooeyLeague The "Satanic panic" was kind of justified. Look into all of the satanic motivated crimes at the time. I think today, given our leaders, it may be more true now than ever. Look up the finders. There are many, many more.
I loved that it really takes some inspiration from analog horror. Especially during the end bits where the whole video gets corrupted before going into the dream sequence.

The "turn it off" is so reminiscent of the best Halloween movie, Halloween 3: Season of the Witch.
One of my faves and scariest movies I have seen
It's time, kids....
🎃🎃🎶🎶 Happy Happy Halloween.... Silver Shamrock. ..🎶🎶🎶🎃🎃
Halloween without Michael is like Jaws without a shark. Ergo retarded. Go ahead and make your movie, but don’t pass it off as part of franchise without the main character 😂

@@rosebudsavesacat it’s brilliant, I actually found myself being invested in the talk show itself! It was so fun to watch!

I absolutely ADORE this film. Saw it three times in the theater and plan to watch it again soon. It’s so unique and well executed, and I love little details I noticed on my second and third watches.
After my first tome seeing it, my first thought was, I need to see it again now that I know what happens.

@@JediJuniper92 Haha I was the same, I watched it and then got some friends to watch it and they loved it too!
I took the end as not what was in Jack’s head but what the demon was broadcasting for him and everyone to see.
That’s why the last scene with the demon is it staring at the camera with it zooming in.
I also think the modern look is because the viewer (us) is essentially being hypnotized in present day through the video.
Interesting take! That does make sense now that you say it, always good when a movie can leave you with several different interpretations.
This movie totally stuck with me. Only issue I had with it are the ai images that appeared during the breaks. I really wish they’d commissioned an artist, you can still get uncanny art that isn’t ai 😭

This film brought me back to the seventies, and I love it. Also, your analysis is excellent.
10:32 in real life Ronald Reagan didn't make a deal with the devil, he was the devil.
He was not the devil, the history channel told us whom that is
I’m ashamed to admit I don’t know the actors name but damn he’s played so many awesome parts over the years.
David Dastmalchian is his name. He is truly awesome.

I really wanted to like this movie, because it had such a great set up to be a psychological thriller/horror masterpiece, but fell short. Would have been better if they made the demon, more subtle and less on the nose with supernatural effects. Especially in the end, with the demon showing its 'form' through the little girl. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then watch Nefarious, which came out last year and is way more creepy.
When I originally read the title, it immediately reminded me of the music video of Thy Mission by The Garden. Love the video!

You should do a video essay exploring why you have so little subscribers because wtf ? Your work deserves at least 200k subscribers by now
@@shivalishankersharma1562 Thank you very much! This video just seemed to pop off and has resonated with a lot of people which is awesome, hopefully it drives more people towards my channel because I like to do these video essays every couple of months!
I love that interpretation. That now he has to live with the fact that his soul is damned, and his wife is waiting to torment him for all eternity for what he's done to her. He got his wish for fame, but at what cost?!
Really enjoyed this! Keep up the good work!
Literally just finished this movie after learning about the Mr. Beast controversy with Jake. I don't think there is a better parallel in the sense of doing whatever it takes to succeed.
This is one I’m just not going to “get”. Was intrigued at the start and the visuals are great but it just fizzled out.
I just watched this. There was just so much stellar work at every level. It's a true delight.
You spoke very well. Easy to listen to.
Thanks very much! Good to hear that I’m not rambling or stuttering too much.
It's almost like we are the viewers or at least can imagine being in their place, in a sense we are all damned to Hell for witnessing a forbidden event.
I love you interpretation of the ending.
Interesting video, good narration mate. Subbed
This was such a well-done video. It's given me something new to watch too as I'm always on the lookout for great films
Keep up the good work my guy :)
Thank you so much! I love seeing these comments, let me know what you think of the film too!
Imagine showing this on live TV in 70s
@@KM-rl4gm May I recommend Ghostwatch? It’s a British tv film from 1992, on Halloween night they aired a live exploration into a haunted house, and shit hit the fan. Now it was obviously staged and not actually filmed live, but it was presented as a live broadcast and people watching it actually thought it was real and lost their fucking minds!
@@GetFramed oh yes I've seen it!
@@KM-rl4gm how good is it!
I thought, even whilst credits were running, that it would return and we'd see what the cameras caught at the end and that being Jack actually breaking dudes neck, slicing Dr's throat etc
It was a good flick 👌
The Exorcist, if they had stayed in the desert doing paranoia, thsts my head cannon.
I was curious about this film. I like well written horror movies that leaves your head scratching. This movie caught my eye and happy to hear it's really good. I will check it out thanks!
People aren't simply "attracted to controversy", we are deliberately conditioned by bourgeois media to respond to sensationalism in ways that benefit the rich.
